Having this mentioned: which orruks are we talking about? Does the novel specify as such or are they generic ones/mcguffins so that the forces of the city abandon its defence?
Have we seen the Orruks fight in multiple tribe-forces (ironjaws+bonesplitterz+greenskinz) yet?

Thats.........so metal. Not just he has him crucified on the wall of all things but so that Orruks could use him as a target dummy, brah Age of Sickmar.
I know right? I was laughing at that bit. I am gonna spoiler tag that bit just in case someone has not read it.
On spawning cults still also remember that as nick(the writer of city of secrets) said there is a reason why Tzeentch thrives during civilization imagine if slaanesh was active? He would have a field day with those people both gods are not warmongers they pick on the aspects of society to get their foot hold in. People will be people stuff like that happens in real life.
That's why nurgle and khorne were the strongest in times of war that's more of their thing, tzeentch and possibly slaanesh when we get to him? Are somewhat opposite.

They don't mention them they just say orruks, it seems the city has an orruk problem that's the reason why they left in such a huge force.
Spoiler:
Since the prophecy said their leader was popping up at a specific location of course that prophecy has other reasons surrounding it which I won't reveal.

Thinking about how each race is trying to live together and you got things like Aelf pirates controlling the docks and the non-Azyrites living in the slums makes me think the cities are like Novigrad from Witcher 3 and I like that a lot.
Excelsis was an interesting insight. Now, though, it is representative?
Just think about it, excelsis may have been a "fairly recent" (30 years at most) city, with little in the way of social integration and the stormcast around not helping much. But what is the situation in those cities that are older and have different stormhosts??
Maybe things vary from one city to the other. Still I'm interested to see where this is going. Plus we need a map for the realms. Not just ghyran but the whole deal. Sigmar knows I'd kill for one and get a proper sense of scale sometimes.
Oh yeah really makes you want to know what other cities are like. Id love to know what one is like watched over by the Tempest Lords, since they were the greatest rulers. Or a Ghur civilisation that is constantly harassed by monsters and see what type of weapons/armour they customised to survive this long. One of the reasons I love AoS, Excelsis will most probably not be representative. There is soooo much variety. Each Realm has its own flavour, each area has its own flavour and each city has its own flavour.
I love the big map layouts they do the realms in the Realm-Gate books but yes I would love a more detailed one that does show the real scale of things. Its nice seeing the cities like on a Middle-Earth map but getting a more detailed look would be amazing.

Well josh reynolds is writing another similar novel to the city of secrets I think it's taking place in Ghyran. Excelsis is also going to be one of the main cities in ghur just to let you know so I assume we will see more of it in the future possibly. I do feel having the races live together in such a fashion makes it feel more organic than having everything separated.
After the novel I want an AOSrpg it would be soooo much fun considering the scope of the setting and having information on cities.

Thanks for the link. That was a nice read through and dang wish I bought the book and start collecting the army.

Man, now I have two more books to read. I guess that box of brutes will have to wait.
You know what? I've been thinking a bit now on something a friend of mine told me. Age of Sigmar is in the colonial (read: XV-XVI centuries) era, when they discovered the americas: just think about it.
-At first we had fights in the midst of "nowhere" and specially in densely forested areas (Ghyran, Mandrake bastion).
-Once a more or less secure beach-head, we build cities and establish an administration.
-There's discrimination against natives.
-There's savage tribes (natives)
-We are starting to build civilization and there's a lot of stuff to deal with yet.

So very true and really hoping we'll see that translated to the models someday. Not sure if by whole new sub-factions(ex. Undead from Ghur with armies of undead beasts or Grots from the metal realm riding clockwork squigs) or just bases and conversion bits for certain realms but the potential for it would be amazing!

Well, I suppose if the Mods want us to but we are talking about the current news of GW taking a closer look at the realms with their new novels so I think we're okay.

Oh, that's a very interesting viewpoint.
I guess we already got a taste of manifest destiny as well when the Sylvaneth and Ironweld came to blows.
About the native discrimination concerns, I think the Azyrites do have some justification for it.
In most fantasy settings the whole point of this kind of thing would be a purely "see how bad things are" or " their civilization is backwards for not embracing equality" thing but with the reclaimed they have had to adapt to life under chaos, serve their conquerors and endure being in lands cursed by chaos.
Though not by their choice, they worshipped chaos, came into contact with the unholy and no doubt ate and drank tainted food. The corruption is definitely in their blood and who can say when it could rear it's damning head in a future generation.
Would we want to lose something as special as human purity that the Azyrites have? The people of the world-that-was were doomed to mutation and corruption in them as all humanity had suffered through the coming of chaos and it's changing of the world.
With AoS we have humans free of that taint as they started over by Sigmar's power.
Just my thought on it, anyway.

It is not Slaves to Darkness specific but rather Mortal Tzeentch keywords. For the most part this does mean StD, but some models like the Magister or Curseling also have the Mortal keyword.

I'm the same guy who mentioned earlier in the thread that he's such a cheapo outside of the hobby he can't even afford data to be able to preorder when he's out. $5 a month for mistake-ridden games is a bit much lol. I'd catch them live for free though

I quite like the new Ogroid Thaumaturge. Would it make a good substitute for a Lord of Change in Warhammer 40K? Is it a similar height, or is the Lord of Change much bigger? I've never really liked the bird Daemons of Tzeentch but this guy is cool.

It's around the same size as the current one, barring the wings on the LoC.
He's more in line with a Daemon Prince, and who wouldn't want the shiny new LoC?

I'm painting the ogroid now. (Nowhere near finished yet) He is not that that big. Might make a good demon prince.
