Basically I want to know what you guys do wrong. Stuff that you know you do, but cant seem to shake it.

For me with my Dark Eldar I have 2 problems:

1) im a total pansy when it comes to risk. I wont bet my ravager against an autocannon dread. Multiple games my ravager gets locked down because I am too scared to bet my three lances can stuff a dread in one volley. Statistics say I can at least prevent it from shooting back but I always wimp out and wont try it.

2) I'm not aggressive enough. I get too scared of taking a round of shooting and tend to hold my assult army dancing around and getting slowly whittled down than going all in and just turbo boosting into the enemy.

What about you guys?

My biggest weakness is that I tend to forget the objectives and focus more on keeping my troops alive and killilng my opponant. When the game ends my opponant may only have 2 squads left but they are both holding objectives and I'm holding one or worse, none.

I'm getting better about it but as they say, old habits are hard to break.

The plan wasn't flawed it was the people carrying out the plan!!!

Too aggressive especially for a Mech Guard player. There a land raider full of terminators near my demolisher? Ram it! That bloodied assault marine squad is sitting on an objective. Charge them with my vets! Also I have trouble dealing with flyers now since I don't want fortifications nor do I want to give up a heavy support slot. My normal strategy is to toss a heavy stubber on my chimeras and fire everything at the flyers. If 6 chimeras each fire 9 shots odds are that you will get 9 hits against a flyer.

I end up pulling the trigger on big maneuvers too early. I'll often have multiple squads of Marines and Sternguard charge in on a target and try to beat them in assault instead of doing the sensible thing and rapid firing the hell out of them.

Too defensive, and when I am aggressive, it is not at the right targets.
Also, I do need to work on deployment especially with the new wound allocation.

My biggest tactical weakness is I lean too far one way or another. What I mean is I'll get in super aggressive mode and forget to pull it back towards defensive or vice versa. Like just this last weekend I had a tactical marine with plasma cannon 4" from an objective on turn 5 with support enough to kill the squad closest to him. Instead of moving him towards the objective and guaranteeing a win I used him to fire. Despite the fact I had 4 missiles and 2MM(with vulkan). Firing at a squad of 5 necron warriors. Just to assure if it went 6. I'd guarantee a win(it didn't, and I ended up in a draw). Stuff like that.

I tend to make armies with 2nd and 3rd option contingencies. This leads to spammy lists (multiples of units) which is bad for the game. I also try to limit any choice in my army to 150-200 (not that bad playing tau and DE, worse so for necrons) points at the most which means i tend to lose out on very effective hammers from time to time.

My biggest weakness is that I'm not very good thinking very quickly on my feet. I'll always get the right answer, but I probably won't get the right answer in time.

As such, I'm not a very tactical person, but I AM a very strategic one. Before the game begins (when I actually have time to think about things), I come up with a foolproof plan for winning, and then follow the plan exactly with very few deviations.

As such, most games against me wind up sort of devolving into a game of chicken. Who can stick to their plan longer, you or me? The answer is always me.

As I'm really good with coming up with plans, I'm generally rather successful, and my plans are generally good enough that they will succeed more or less regardless of what my opponents do to attempt to disrupt them.

Most of my losses, then, are due to having luck that's too bad for the plan to succeed, with a very occasional loss due to being outplayed by someone who is much quicker at thinking than I am (someone who is actually good with tactics).

Im usually at least decently tactically sound, but i often find myself going for the "go big or go home" moments. Such as if i see a critical enemy unit that one of mine could destroy, but would severelly handicap or defeat myself it failed...I will often go for it. So i would say that I sometimes need to be a little more conservative in my playstyle.

I don't think I am Tactically Challenged, I just get fethed over by my dice.

I'd suggest your actual weakness is closed-mindedness then.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

The love of my Sentinels.
They are a massive point sink that fills up all of my FA slots. They never last more than 3 turns, don't very often make their cost back and tend to fall over from a bad look. Yet I still take'em just because A; they are good at taking fire that would be aimed at my squishy foot vets, B; act as shielding units for the Heavier elements of my army and C; all my Sentinels look to damn good not to be used

My first game with the Imperial Guard was just after reading Cadian Blood. I had finished lovingly painting each individual Guardsman in the platoon and just read a book detailing how hardcore and badass these Guardsmen were. Then I lost 30 men in the first turn. See that on the ground there? That's my heart, and it's broken.

I eventually got over it and now I send wave after wave of Valhallans bravely to their deaths, and love every minute of it!

Tyranids can already fire the quad-guns/icarus lascannons that can be purchased with many fortifications. They only can't fire things like the heavy bolters that come with the Bastion.

I come up with a plan then get carried away letting my SW side overide my tactical plan and just charge instead of sticking to my original idea and getting a win.

But i can dismiss it as sticking to the fluff and i play for fun not just to win, a loss is fine if we both enjoy it and we have some memorable moments to talk about.

when I play BA and I have a bad habbit of trying to wipe my foe off the table rather than holding objectives/mission

When I play guard I have a habit of getting units cut off from my main lines and normaly getting them cut down or valuing my guardsmen to low and having them all cut to peaces just to give my armor some shots.

Do you ever go into a fight thinking "there's no point giving it my best, I'll get another chance later?"

I have two weaknesses, mostly:

1-) I spend my troops too carelessly. Comes from playing CSM and actually having troops that are killy but often few in number. I tend to toss them in the fray early to try and break the line, melta a dangerous tank or claim the midfield, and end up losing enough to make objective games complicated.

2-) I hate defensive play. In kill point missions, I often forget to hang back, protect my transports and other easy KPs and just try to cripple the enemy. It's a factor from the issue above, mostly.

In Boxing matches, you actually get paid to take a dive and make the other guy look good.

In Warhammer 40K, you're expected to pay cash out of your pocket for the privilege of having Marines and IG trample all over your Xenos/Chaos.
