Making some terrain bits for the local store, since I like the idea of terrain having more effect than "you move slower in this", and thought to make a bunch of counters to represent archeotech artefacts. And then decided to make them look a little more distinct rather than battlefield debris.
Beginning pictures uploaded in a moment.

Apologies for the picture quality, still trying to figure out a good place to get lighting for pictures.

Anyway, here's where it's starting. Have the Gretchin themselves done, a few with their mysterious finds, most still digging, and one paranoid one driving off imaginary claim jumpers.

Still working on the 'dig sites' themselves. PVA glue takes too long to dry when you're using like five layers of it.

Aaand, more progress. The first batch of excavators are 'done', as far as I'm doing, since another local is going to be painting them (as he is better at it than I and I'm working on making other models); I need to wait until I get more bases before I do some more.

Again, sorry for the terrible lighting.

The group shot.

So paranoid about someone claim-jumping him he doesn't notice a rival stealing his prize right out from under his nose (speaking of which, is the peeking nose too subtle?),

Could it be some ancient race venerated Orks and made golden idols of them?! Or is this just gaudy junk?

Question only tangentially related to this: the store that I'm making these as a gift for has several Warhammer tables set up. Given the rules for Archeotech Artefacts, would you think that four of these per table is too many? Too little? Just about right? I don't want the table to be flooded with them and make it all about the dig site, but at the same time I feel like one or two on a table will be too remote and rare to matter at all.

Make sure you get some pics of them painted ya? Those are pretty cool, but I think the one diggin under ground to steal the scepter is lost to the rest of the mini. I thought it was just a robot hand or some such stick out of the ground TBH

The pick axe is apparently from an IG vehicle spruce. Got it from a friend's bit box.

Yeah, without being painted and with the crappy picture it's tough to see the digging one.

And thanks for the compliments. I have them to the person painting them before going on a trip, so hopefully he'll have them done by the time I get back, and will definitely post pictures once they're done, and once I make more.

These are pretty cool.

I don't think the nose poking out is too subtle. In fact, I'm not sure you need it at all. If you were going to do something like that, I would maybe suggest the face being near the arm, or just leave it out.

All in all, good work, mate.

More modeling! More archaeology! No time for love, Mad Dok Jones!

The second expedition of The Dusty Greenskin Archeological Organization has made some fascinating finds!

Still waiting for my friend to paint them, but going to keep modeling in the meantime.
Running out of stuff for them to find, though, going to need to start getting creative...

What's everyone thing?

This is such an outstanding idea. Orks can be hilarious in the hands of someone creative and talented. You've struck gold sir. I really like the ones fending off the hand and the tentacles. Fantastic!

Why thank you!
Though, they do have rules associated with them as well; see p.106 of your 6E rulebook.

As an archaeologist, this fills me with much joy.

Also, I agree with one of the above posters that this is a fantastic example of story telling with models.

For an air of authenticity, I'd love to see you model one of these babies onto a gretchin.

EDIT: I just noticed the Forgotten Legacy box in your photo. You do awesome models, AND you play L5R. You are clearly an awesome person and we should totally hang out.

Indeed. Since Emerald Edition.
A shame it was a month ago that I was in Texas, heh.

Hmm. I'll see what I can do, trowel-wise...shouldn't be -too- tough...
And thanks for the suggestion. Could use it, since I'm going to do like another 15 of these guys, perhaps more (despite the fact that I probably shouldn't spend all my money on gretchin boxes, shovel bits, and modeling sand). So always interested in hearing ideas for them.

Hilarious modeling, I was laughing really hard at the Gretchin aiming his pistol at the hand coming out of the ground and the one fighting off the tentacles.

It'd be funny to see one that looked like Indiana Jones with a hat and whip (of course!), and one that is wearing a dinosaur skull as a hat.

The Indy one should also be fending off some sort of snake.

The whip is easy. The hat I'll have to work on.
It's really a shame Lego bits are just slightly too large for Warhammer models. Can think of so many useful ones for things like this.

You should make one with a metal detector. Or a grot that is digging in a hole when another grot starts filling in the hole while he is still in it. Also you could make an unlucky grow that found a mine or a boot or something. The possibilities are endless.

Already have a few unlucky ones planned, though the metal detector is a great idea.

The pair of them actually digging would be very difficult; the models' bodies are all one status piece, the only posing option is how the head goes on, so cutting them to repose can only accomplish so much.
Once I save a bit more money I'll have to explore some of the other Gretchin models available.

Great fun for the painting high vis vests are a must and you haven't yet got a wheel barrowing Grot. Obvious Additions include a shipping container, spoil heaps and a Portaloo. I also insist on Grots doing recording......

Oh straightening sections, cleaning back with hoes digging out a ditch and an Ork supervisor leaning on a shovel and pointing. Can you tell I've been working on Archaeological sites for a number of years. Ranging Rods might be an idea. for this sort of stuff have a look at ogre kingdom gnoblars as well. The scrap launcher kit has lots of fun poses.

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.
