Painted the first 2 of my death company today... hopefully I'll have all 10 of them + astorath done by this time next week.

I didn't really want to go the all-black route on them, because I still wanted them to look like they belonged in my army... so I just used more grey/black than I normally would on them. I think the end result turned out pretty well. Astorath will be trickier... I actually think I'm going to have to paint him red, because his armor IS supposed to look like exposed muscle tissue.

Yea, the green basecoat / shading is all airbrushed on, and the powerweapons are done by airbrush too.

Looking good Horst, looking really good. Loving the purple eyes.

If i can put forward some CC, i think the feet would look much better green rather then black. The black just doesnt seem to compliment the rest of the paintjob. Also it appears you have missed a portion of the underside of the ax marines right arm. Im not sure if it was deliberate or not though.

When you say the black doesn't compliment the rest of the paint job, do you mean on the feet, or in total?

Death company is supposed to have black on them, and I am struggling to find a way to incorporate black into the primary green color scheme.

As for the underside of his arm... its just the picture. I put some Nuln oil wash on that part of the arm to darken it a bit, and didn't notice it pooled a bit more there than it should have.

Aurora Chapter Death Company? Interesting. Are you putting a new spin on the chapter, or counts-as-ing?

The paint job's really nice, but I feel that the black could 'pop' a little more. It's hard to get black to stand out without making it look grey, though.

Great start on your Aurora DC. I think the black doesnt look bad at all with the green. Nice work

As for Astorath, I dont think you have to stick with red just because his armor resembles striated muscle strands....so does Mephiston's and ive seen many variations of his armor (black, gold, red, and blue). I would suggest keeping him consistent with your army....maybe paint him black with green accents.

Ah sorry that was a badly worded sentance. I meant the black feet don't completment the rest of the paintjob. I think the black crosses and trim on the shoulder pads and the black on parts on the helmet look great. It really does suit. Just the feet seem a little off.

Quality painting! I especially like the fade effect on the hammer. The grey-black was a great call too. Recent events have put a bit of a macabre spin on your title though... :/

Because I already have a LOT of green marines... and I really don't want to paint up some red ones.

If I do that, then I can't use my green marine stuff in the same army as my red marine stuff, or it will look odd...
