Just had a back op and been watching The History Channel and i'm now hooked on programs like Pawn Stars and the restoration shows. You guys just have so much passion for restoring and customising stuff. It's great to see the skill, passion that goes into it bringing this stuff back to life.

Live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart. Trouble no one about his religion. Respect others in their views and demand that they respect yours. Love your life, perfect your life. Beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and of service to your people. When your time comes to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song, and die like a hero going home.

Junk is awesome. I'm particularly fond of old metal signs from the 50's. Old Coca-Cola signs and things with stupid jingles on them.

And here I was hoping to find someone outraged at the dribble that the history channel now spills from its putrid mouth on a regular basis.

I are disappoint.

ANd to me that is a poisonous attitude. Thinking about how great an era is is wrong. Like i know a few people who think the fifties where the greatest time in america.

Well, they'd have to be pretty damn bad to be worse than the fifties. The fifties were only great if you were a wealthy heterosexual white male.

In comparison to now adays maybe. I bet the 1950s were a considerable step up for all parties when compared to the 1850s.

I think the 1980s were probably the best overall decade we've had yet. Rockin' tunes, indoor plumbing, kick ass threads, great movies (looking at you, Big Trouble in Little China - don't be bashful), Super Mario Bros, MTV when it wasn't just a bunch of girls talking and crying, Pound Puppies, Slap Bracelets..... Crack.... AIDS..... so it wasn't perfect, but I still think it was the best decade the world has had.

Any series that makes a reference to Mobile Suit Gundam = Pure Win in my book. And Archer was pure win long before that happened

Yeah, there's a lot of those delusions going around.

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

Having lived in both the U.S. and now, for some years, in Europe I can affirm that the "handy-man" ethos is not that widespread in Europe. However, as far as what there is in the U.S. that actually makes it better than Europe there is only one thing: space. The U.S. has alot of land and makes profligate use of it. Over in Europe even the parking spaces are small and every bit of land is fenced in or claimed (recall this is the place where white people originated so it's all be gone over for thousands of years). Other than the huge open spaces--and I don't minimize the knock-on effect this has for quality of life in general--there's nothing superior about the U.S. over Europe. In fact Europe is a much better place to live in many many ways.

No in comparison to the rest of the world at the time, at least as far as race was concerned. Jesse Owens had more rights in 1936 Nazi Berlin than he did in his home country, for example.

Things didn't used to be great, old people are short sighted and stupid.

My nanna tells me one minute that when she was my age they could only eat meat once a week, and got lemonade once a month as a treat and had no cars, TVs or refrigerators, and the next thing she is going on about how it was good because "you could leave your doors unlocked"

Of course you could! There was feth all to steal! You could also catch TB.

The reason we can't do that now, is because even fething lifelong wellfare fethers are obese because they can afford fried chicken every day. They don't just have refrigerators, they have flatscreen TVs, and apple products.

It might go to gak very soon, because of the population explosion.. but if you remember about 1998, life doesn't get any better. My childhood and teens were fething awesome. I had a N64, 20 channels on TV, ice cream and booze on tap.

Its all gone to gak since a few million Somalians turned up and now we have to queue for absolutely everything, but id still take these trifling inconveniences over having feth all.

And ive been stuck in LA traffic, we are still a few decades away from that.

We are arming Syrian rebels who support ISIS, who is fighting Iran, who is fighting Iraq who we also support against ISIS, while fighting Kurds who we support while they are fighting Syrian rebels.

I think that happens with every generation. They like to think that their hay day was the best. In the same way they like to say that the fact more children pass school exams these days means the exams are getting easier, as they take the opposite inclination to be an insult to their intelligence.

Then they aren't. But if you are convinced they won't be better guess what.... they won't be.

I believe some smarty-pants egghead type calls it a self-fulfilling prophecy?
