My armies are all fluff based..I mean..
Marines: Fallen Dark Angels
Guard:
- Catachans: Tanith First
- Tanks: Narmenian 1st Armored
- Cadians: TBD (custom paint scheme though)
Empire: Middenland


So, until I decide on the name of my Cadians...I have no nicknames :(

What regiment number are you gonna give to your cadians?

I used to call my Space Marine stuff, 'The Last Bastion of Hope'.

Now I have nicknames for lists.

The Tau I used to run I called the Tide for the Greater Good.

There's a vehicle/melta heavy series of lists I have for Space Marines that I've dubbed 'The Can Opener MkII'. I'll have to retool them for 6th ed though.

I also make sets of lists for escalation type campaigns... (not that I'll ever get to play them). For Fantasy I have a series of WoC lists: Scout Party (500), Infiltration (1000), Company (1500), Escalation (2000), Turn to the Gods (2500), Khorne's Fury (3000). For 40K, I kind of did the same for IG: the 500, 1000, 1500, 2000 lists are titled the same as the WoC lists then I have a 2500 list nicknamed WAR.

I don't think they would do well in competitions, but they're fun little thematic things to put together. Once I get my tables all built and set up in the garage I'll probably run campaigns with them.

I also nicknamed the lists for my Star Wars Miniatures... I don't remember their names though... its been a while... some were just named after 'net lists'; they would just be my take on them.

Haven't nicknamed anything for Warmachine/Hordes or Infinity yet.

My salamanders are my 'sallies', blood angels 'knights of baal' , necrons are 'the harbingers'.

Nice.

I write stupid amounts of fluff for my armies 'cause I'm a nerd like that.

So my Guard regiment is the Belleuan 775th Armored Assault Regiment with their in game tactics and fluff tactics all married to the concept of the USMC's Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) which essentially is a floating self contained can of pain utilzing extremely integrated combined arms. Maybe not perfectly competitive but it's fun.

My Sororitas Order Militant is getting their own fully detailed fluff complete with some xenos, heretic and demon burning (while /not/ being turned in to armor paint thank you) as the Order of the Sacred Heart of the Gatekeeper.

Don't get me wrong the chapters and units with their own history are fun to play, paint and model (considering a detachment of spacewolves, or dark angels sometime in the nebulous future) but like with the paint schemes the fluff can really shine and make for even more fun when you make it yours.

I have the Sons of Gorgon for my BA and The Poli-Aima 1st for my guard.

I am also building an exorcist/ Purifier army, but no specific name for them yet.

1st Shadowsreach Armored "The Ironbreakers"
An armored regiment hailing from an industrialized volcanic planet, the nickname is reference to the brutality of an armored regiment in war.

1881st Cadia Dragoons "The Aces 'N' Eights"
A semi-mechanized regiment haling from Cadia, the nickname is a reference to the regimental number and to the Dead Man's Hand in poker.

My chaos space wolves are called "Bane of the All-Father" , made my space wolves evil chaosy because a) I can and b) I hate the " male-pattern baldness" heads they come with and put chaos heads on.

My Guard are the 13th Vyperion Grenadiers.

As it says in my sig, my Guard are the 289th Descaal Janissaries.

My Tau are painted up green and red mostly and so got saddled with "the Nightmare before Kwanzaa"

Krieg 5th Siege Regiment, 6th Company.

I nicknamed my Fourth company Snake Eyes, seems like everytime I get two armor save throws, I almost NEVER get 3+ and always

My Orks iz "Da Pit Krew".

I have a salamanders army painted in ash white, green, and gold. I call them the white sallies with winter action vulkan.

My gf calls my Templars "Men in Aprons".......

The 91st Schrott Experimental Regiment

The name goes as follows.

91 is the year of my birth (1991)

Schrott in german means "Scrap" which references the salvaged weapons and armor of many of my units. The planet is also completly coverd in the refuse of war. a huge planet sized junkyard covered in miles of destroyed space craft, vehicales, equipment and more, it was (and still is) a massive Vault used by the Machanicus to store prototypes and other machines and designs.

Experimental is to the Highly experimental weaponry the mechanicus has entrusted to my regiment for field testing.

all together i have a mighty armored force capable of tearing apart the foes of the emperor!

Well, my Eldar Empire (yes, I said Empire 'cus I can) is called Dael'Rea; I forgot what it means in Eldar but I'm sure it has something to do with the sun, Led by Farseer Iranna.

My Grey Knights Brotherhood is called the Brotherhood of Unyielding Light, led by Brother-Captain Apollo.

And finally, my Dark Eldar come from the kabal of the Poisioned Tongue, led by Archon Ash'iq Varakesh.

I do name all my squads after ancient Macedonian kings though. Tactical squad Perdikkas, Tactical squad Archelaos, Tactical squad Aeropos and so on and so forth.

Mine has been nickenamed "Oildrum" because my vehicles always explode.

My Space Marines are obsessive about STCs and gathering of ancient lore and information so are known as the Lore Wardens.
My Imperial Guard specializes in chemical warfare and trench combat (think WW1 Germany) and are known as the 71st Kato Chemtroopers
