Hi guys,

My knowledge of CSM is limited at best, so my appologies if this seems a dull question.

Now, in a unit of Thousand Sons Marines, 1 model is upgraded to an Aspiring Sorcerer, this model is a Psyker. In the FAQ, there is no mention of this Aspiring Sorcerer being Mastery Level one (doubt it would be any higher), but it also doesn't say they dont have a mastery level. I'm confused as to whether they use the Psychic Powers in the BRB, or the ones in the Codex? If it is the ones in the BRB, are they only ML1?

I understand that there is a new Chaos Codex coming very soon, but the question still stands.

Thanks guys

Master level if not stated is equal to how many powers per turn the model can use. Normally he can use one power per turn, but the mark of tzeentch allows him to use another, so mastery level 2.

IMO, invisibly on a thousand sons unit is very funny, at least for the guy not fighting them.

Mastery Level 2?! Wow, didn't expect that. Thanks!

Where does it say that people with Mark of Tzeentch can use 2 Powers per turn?

Speaking of which, i'm going to look over in the News and Rumors section to get some juicy Chaos gossip

Thanks again

Arhiman plus a terminator sorcerer with familliar and 3 powers, plus two units of 8 thousand sons has been the core of one of my testing lists and let me tell you, getting 8 rolls on the telepathy table makes your opponent cry. Invisible thousand sons makes them wail. Having their units unable to do anything, even swing in melee on your current turn and their next, it's like listening to the sounds of ships in a harbor.

Unless they're in cover, Invisibility is pointless on Thousand sons. They arn't an assault unit and you have a 4+ invuln standard. Unless I'm missing something.

It's funny on your rhino when you use smoke and get a 2+ cover.

It also makes them unable to overwatch and hit you at WS 1 for what it's worth.

Telepathy is definitely the best discipline for us though.

Change and change until Change is our master, for nothing neither God nor mortal can hold that which has no form. Change is the constant that cannot be changed.

No game of chess can be won without pawns, and this may prove to be a very long game.

True, WS1 really hurts. I suppose its ok against foes that regular MEQs trash easily enough already. Like Guardsmen or Boy mobz.

Weird, i would have thought Pyromancy is better than Telepathy, due to the assaulty nature of that discipline

Well you really don't want Sorcerers or Aspiring sorcerers to be assaulting to much. Thousand Sons pay for that AP3, pretty much prefer to use it.

Thing is Thousand Sons don't have the Mark of Tzeentch in their rules. The Sorcerer only has one power anyway and can never got a second one.

This. There is nothing stating that the TS Aspiring Sorc(or really, ANY cult troops with regard to their god) has the Mark of Tzeentch. In addition, the rules for who can roll for the book powers explicitly mentions ONLY Chaos Sorcerers.

Man it's like you guys never read the book or the FAQ.

Thousand sons have the MOT, it explicitly states it's providing the bonus to their invul save.

Furthermore the FAQ states any model with a psychic power may use the psychic disciplines from the rulebook.

Fair enough, but the Sorcerer still only gets one power, so why does it matter? BTW I never said the Aspriing Sorcerer can't use rulebook lores.

It matters because he can use his Force Weapon and his power in the same turn.

I was responding to both posts, not just yours.

Having a model with the MOT is necessary to lead thousand sons, otherwise the tend to move very slowly. If the aspiring sorc dies, but you have another model with the MOT in the unit, they aren't hurt by it.

On a related note, if an aspiring sorcerer has a mastery level of 2, does he get two rolls on the power table(s)? If so, does that mean that the new power replaces the one he MUST buy or is added to his repertoire? If it replaces the spell he MUST buy, does that mean that he must buy two powers to get two rolls? Just pick brains

You either buy your codex powers, or get a free power per mastery level from the main book.

You have to trade for a power you have. Mastery level doesn't = number of rolls. It only gets different when you are dealing with special characters.
