Hello Everyone,
I am hoping this does not turn into a "Finecast is terrible" thread, but I am curious if the level of imperfection I have had is the exception rather than the rule. Here are my numbers:

DE Incubi - (sword arms mold slid and arm halves mis-aligned) - 1 return in total
Commander Dante - (waist armor not formed, backpack details missing) - 2 total returns
Sicarius - (backpacks missing details and misformed) - 3 total returns
Logan Grimnar - (armor not completely formed) - 2 returns total
Ragnar Blackmane - (backpack not fully formed, odd resin injection point that can't be removed without damaging the mini) - 1 return and counting

*note - I have ZERO skill with greenstuff and molding the jacked up minis.

# of Unpainted/Unassembled > # of Painted models.

We'll find out soon enough eh.

I'm now up to eleven finecast purchases(one being the Techmarine box set with 5 minis in), and I've not needed to make a single return. I think the Techmarine had a single bubble on his foot.

But this WILL turn into a "finecast hate thread", because this is the internet, and nobody ever misses a chance to have a pop at GW.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

100% of mine have been miscast, but that's because I've only ever bought one model, with a dodgy shoulder. No biggie- covered it with a jump pack.

I've never had much luck with the stuff :/ most of the problems I've been able to fix but that's beacuse I fealt bad taking them back XD

my tree kin on the other hand........there're pics in my gallery. even I took those back, they were horrible ;_;

edit: problems that I have had

spell singer, left part of her face had melted (gave her a new face :3)
death jester, very fuzzy and lack of detail, paint covered it up
farseer box, bent weapons, bubbles for all
izabella von carsten, pretty much fine
eldrad, bent bits and lack of detail
wood elf lord, fine untill I left him in a warm case -.-
shadow seer, bubbles everwhere -.-
tree kin.....whathas been seen can not be unseen ;_;

so yeah, the amount of prblems you've had is normal for "fine"cast

Currently sat on 3 finecast models (or units bought)

Techmarine and Servtors: Perfectly fine

Isabella von carsten: Perfectly fine

Amber Wizard: Staff was wonky but I wasnt after that part of the model.

All in all I've been thrilled with all 3 purchases, no returns. I've actually struggled more with forgeworld products (doesnt stop me buying them though)

It would be interesting to see what the overall stats are for 'miscast', how many are being returned etc. There are some wargaming blogs that reckon the hit/miss rate is improving, and there was even an announcement by the CEO recently that the quality rate is improving. But, for a lot of people they probably won't risk the hassle still of ordering through an internet discounter as there are still enough reports of miscasts to make it not worth bothering. Apparently Dark Sphere (UK internet shop) stopped selling GW stuff online recently, and you have to think the situation is still not good if they would stop such a potential source of revenue.

The problem is that discussion on this seems impossible without it turning into a poo-throwing fest, and then someone posting a link of liquid green stuff and saying 'just use this'. It would be great to get some stats compiled and some actual, real data without things becoming too emotionally charged. I guess what is really needed is some kind of insider or 'whistle-blower' who would leak an internal document on the subject, although that is probably not likely to happen.

I've only bought two finecast models. Neither were perfect but the amount of green-stuffing needed to repair the defects was miniscule compared to bridging joints of metal minis plus no pinning is needed.

I did go though numerous blisters in store though to make sure I had decent casts though.

Personally I prefer finecast. Easier to model, definitely more detailed hence more enjoyable to paint.

Of about ten models (terminator librarian and chaplain, Lysander, two regular chaplains and librarians, Draigo, marine casualties) all but one needed to be returned, of which several required multiple returns before an acceptable cast could be obtained. Even the one "perfect" cast (Lysander, if anybody cares) required some minor work with greenstuff.

Unsurprisingly, I shall be avoiding Finecast like the plague, and doing my best to build my traitor army using old metals and plastic kitbashes instead.

So, it's not just finecast. I recently got some metal kasrkin, and they were pretty bad. Not as bad as they've been for you, apparently, and I AM a master with GS, so I could fix the problems myself, but still...

I wonder if it's less of a problem with finecast and more of a problem with GW just not caring about their non-plastic lines.

I avoid finecast like the plague, paying more for used metal models when possible.

I had some bad looking plague marines, they were warped and twisted as if they were taken out of the mold still not solid. Being plague marines it is alright I suppose.

I have an ok looking raptor with assault weapon, but he isnt as detailed as the metal ones.

I got one of the new iron hands upgrade sprues that was total garbage. Half of the little parts were full of bubbles and unusable.

Ghazghkull Thrakka - one small Bubble, looks like battle damage, so I kept it. Still a damaged model.
KFF BigMek - six terrible models and counting. Luckily you can see the flaws from outside the blister, so I didn't put any cash down for them yet.
Weirdboy - bend and twisted so bad, that the model can not be glued onto a base when assembled. Haven't had the time to return it.

So, after initially being very happy with my FineCast Thrakka, the bad shape of not only the ork models but also of my friends daemons, space marines and tyranids managed to drive me away from finecast and has me scouring ebay for metal models now.

Not angry about it, but rather disapointed.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.

ok, this is one of the things about finecast that really bugs me

THEIR NOT MORE DETAILED THAN METAL

really, they come from the same mold as the metals so there is no difference between the two, only that you can see the detail more clearly when its unprimed as there's no reflection going on :3

more enjoyable to paintis a matter of prefrance, I always prefered metal but thats just me lol

I've had two so far. A wolf lord on thunderwolf and a tyrant guard. Neither were bad enough that I noticed. I will say that it was easier to mod a bone sword on the finecast guard than it would have been for the metal one.

Someone once told me this about Porsche Panameras:
"There are two Panamera's in my hood. Visual pepper spray. When Jesus was on the cross and cried out "Father, why have you forsaken me?" it wasn't because of the whole crucifixion, it was because he foresaw the design of the Porsche Panamera."

I have bought two finecasts so far. The first was a Lord Commissar who has lots of little holes in the cape, but I kept him as it made it look more battle worn. The second was a warrior priest that was just fine.
Some of the guys at the gaming store have had lots of problems with their finecast. One fella got an Ogre hero and he pretty much had to greenstuff an entire new arm for it.

Finecast is not more detailed than metal.

Honestly, it's just that the resin makes it easier to see the detail when it's not based.

Anyways, I got a Bloodthirster for Christmas.

Two left wings, paper thin, full 'o holes, Axe was pretty bad in the detail department, lots of minor holes all over the body.

I didn't know at the time that you could get replacements for models bought online, so it now lies in my crappy model bin.

Hm. 1 set of Sniper drones turned out fairly OK, at least equal to the metals, without the fallover risk. 1 Sslith being converted to 'vesa duties, a couple bubbles where I was removing parts anyway, so no biggie. One Ethereal with pinhole bubbles all over his face, that didn't really 'pop' until a prime with white.

However, all the 'new' pulls for Tau are Direct-Only...

My personal secret lair

The finecast models I have obtained have been pretty much fine so far. I did keep buying metal models as long as our LGS had them in stock though. What I've got so far:

Space Marine jumpack Chaplain: Crozius Arcanum was not completely straight but I somehow managed to fix that.
Dark Eldar Lhamean: This one was just fine and is a magnificent model.
Dark Eldar Medusae: Nothing wrong with the one I got.
Dark Eldar Ur-Ghul: Nothing wrong with the one I got.
Dark Eldar Sslyth: I actually have three of these and none of them had anything wrong with them.
Dark Eldar Mandrakes: One had a hole in his chin. A small one (I think there might have been a bubble) but it was so small I could fix it myself easily.

So I have not had any big issues with finecast. From what I've heard of the miscasts I've come to the conclusion that the models that were made into finecast first have way more miscasts than the newer ones. For example I have not heard of any miscasts with the court of the archon models so far but the marine terminator librarian for example I've heard to have had several miscast models encountered everywhere. But that is just according to the information that I have (and my information may be limited).

I shall rule the world someday utilizing my cuteness. And I already have one minion to help me do it!

To the op I don't know about how many returns. But a friend of mine has a ton of returns and has never been questioned whatsoever. I've bought 3 finecast things total. A CSM raptor squad, a vulkan he'stan, and a thunderfire cannon. I'm about to go through return procedures for the thunderfire because it's awful. So well see if your return amount are above average as compared to only me haha.

And to the sub discussion. The vulkan and raptor box had minor stuff. Some wonky thicknesses on some of vulkans extremities(that were very easily rectified). And the raptor box has crappy stand waves that I was cutting off for better basing anyways so I couldn't care less. I will say this though. I'm going to avoid resin at any chance I can.
