So gents,
Anyone else get buyers remorse? Ebay has become the bane of my existence since my re-immersion into 6th ed 40k. Within the last three days I have spent just under $500....
- $500 for a fully painted Imperial Fist "Deathwing" Army (good deal? I am starting to think not, also I will prob strip them to make them Pre-Heresy DA)
- $100 for a Combo of Wargames Factory/Chimeras for a small IG Veteran Army...
- $175-200 (Steel Legion /Valhallans) pending auction currently
Anyone else feeling me on this? Did I get ripped off? Did I jump the gun a bit? Anyone else have any stories of such shame?!?!?!

We'd have to know what was included in each army before we can really say whether it was a good deal or not, and probably see the pictures to judge the quality of the paint job. For example, with the Deathwing did you get multiple full squads of Terminators, or did you get 2 5-mans and an HQ choice?

I got:
Belial
Librarian
Terminator w/ TH/ SS/Company Banner
Apothecary in Terminator Armor
16 Terminators w/ TH/ SS
4 Terminators w/ SB/ PF
2 Terminators w/ SB/ CF
3 Terminators w/ TH/ SS/ CML
3 Terminators w/ TH/ SS/ CF
3 Attack Bikes w/ MM
4 Bikers w/ MG
2 Bikers
2 Predators w/ autocannon/lascannons
3 Land Speeders w/ CML/ MM
They aren't golden demon, I would say table-top quality. It is actually a usable army unlike the mish-mosh most of what you find on eBay. I just feel bad buying it now considering I will probably strip it and repaint most of it as a DA army. I may only take what I need for a 1500 pt army and then try and resell the rest, but I am unsure as of now.

Compaired to what you'd pay retail for all of that, you did all right. It really comes down to whether you use it for more than a 1500 point army or if you can get a good trade for what you don't want to use.
The good thing is you can have a fully painted army, saving you a lot of time. The paint job looks decent enough that you could field it while repainting one unit at a time.

I use to get buyer's remorse but not anymore cause if you think about it, there are worse ways to use your money;
There are many people in tf2 that would shell out hundreds of dollars for a single hat or strange weapon
In addition, there are people who have spent more on wow accessories as well

I occasionally get that, but I have a good job and a hobby I enjoy. I also did the math. My last major expendature was approximately $500 for about $1200 worth of Sisters of Battle stuff... after putting together a fairly decent IG force. So I felt bad about that for a little bit but I really like both my armies and I got a good deal. I'm a saver so when I spend a big wad of cash like that I always twitch a little afterwards...
I have four or five more vehicles to get and I'm pretty much done with these armies though.
1x Manticore
2x Hellhounds
1x Exorcist
1-2x Rhinos
1x Stormtrooper squad (and I'm probably going to get some cool looking counts as or do conversions for those.)
I also just bought about $200 worth of Ariadna models for Infinity... but again, got a good deal, can't complain and excited to paint them. Probably do Aleph next.
Bottom line a splurge on a good deal isn't gonna hurt you too badly you know? Sounds like you got some good deals on stuff you want/like and that's more then okay. Just shake yourself off and look forward to the fun of playing with, painting and enjoying your models.

Yeah, I am having difficulty with taking it just to strip it. I may end up reselling the army I think, just because I don't think it would be worth it for me just to strip it all. decisions decisions....

Yea, I think I will be doing that, I will probably keep the speeders. Update the paint on the rest, and then resell the rest. I priced out some TH/ SS Termies and I only really need two more squads for my Pre-Heresy DW army.

With how hard it is to get a decent yellow. That army is totally worth the price you paid. It is a "little" bland. Some minor detail work if you feel you can improve them without ruining the paint job and you are set to have a great army to field on the table. The only reason I don't like the army is because from the way I understand it, the models are tailored to field a specific list. And that list uses the about to be replaced DA codex. So in just a few months some of those models will be unusable. For example the cyclone missile TH/SS terminators. DA are the only ones who can still do that and I would bet money they won't be able to with their next book.

I have 2 extra tac squads and way too many scouts because of some crazy good deals on ebay. Luckily there are a ton of bits sellers so I could buy stuff to make some sternguard and command squads out of all the extras.
It looks to me like you paid the right price for that army.

The paint job aint bad, just lacks detail. If you like the colors i would wash and highlight as previously suggested. As far as remorse goes, ive purchased things ill never use in 40k or life in general. You'll get over it.
Forgot to mention ive won auctions where ive been mislead. One was a C: SM lot that belonged to a child and was built with plastic cement. Long story short, he covered the models in cement. Was remorseful for a bit, but ended up filing all the detail and practiced green stuff scuplts.

I think the Imperial Fist Termi army is awesome. It's quite a good paint job to use as a base to add your own details to, and would be a fun way to use the Dark Angels codex to field a cool "Imperial Fists 1st company" and that should easily be unique in your area. If the Missile part of the army build gets invalidated later, do some simple arm swaps.
I'm quite sure you can't get that army from GW for $375, so it was a good deal when it was painted besides.

I do admit I felt bad about spending $60 of a $100 GW gift certificate on 4 Wraithguard models for my Eldar. It's the only way I could ever justify the cost in the first place, but I still feel a bit like I wasted someone's money, lol.

So far no.
Most purchases i've made for my models have careful thinking before hand. THe closest thing i could imagine to "remorse" was observing the condition of a Rhino i got from someone who had attempted to turn it into a "Demolisher" by haphazardly gluing a turret and a las cannon onto it (it would make an Ork go What the Feth is that?) But i quickly came up with a plan and blueprints (in my head anyways) and built the little Rhino into a proper Demolisher Tank stand in.

I get it all the time because up until now I have been too broke to play/collect GW products. I still did, but I probably should not have. I just got a new job that pays pretty well travelling overseas, so while I am away for the next year I decided to order all new stuff instead of asking my family to pack it up and send it to me. This way I can also do it right.
So I ordered:
a desk
a chair
a nice hobby light
modelling supplies(x-acto knives, super glue, etc)
the complete GW paint set
1 squad of guys
footlocker to store it all
so I spent almost $1000. SO yea kind of feeling some remorse but if I don't do something while I am away I will lose my mind.

I don't impulse buy, and any purchases are only done after clearing it with the minister of finances.
I don't have buyer's remorse. If I spend too much, then it just means it's a while before I get to buy more. I restrict my own spending more than the wife does, though.
She let me buy a second Valkyrie (I only wanted one) and the skyshield platform to go with it (she likes models with moving parts) and they are "technically" hers - I just borrow them.

I have buyers remorse occasionally with 40k, when I start painting an army, and decide half way through I want a different army, and start painting that.
Its like with my biker marine army.. they are sitting half painted, and will probably never be finished.
