In terraria npc's are shopkeepers and nothing else, quite frankly they are crap.

Well, at least I have time to use the structure designer and figure out how my palace will be layed out

tl:dr; Server's rolled back to 12:35 GMT and is up and accepting connections again!

I had a brief panic when I rolled back to a previous backup and the server was a fresh map with no structures or anything at all. Ok panic is a mild term as it was several months of your work all gone. So several expletives and many, many heartbeats later, Lego kindly pointed out that I'd restored his test world and the Dakka world was in another folder.

Anyway, it's now back and working. I'd avoid doing anything too complex with pistons while there is a "piston corner bug", but basic stuff *should* be fine until the patch tomorrow.

sorry for the sudden log-out and my subsequent absence for the next several hours, but I was suddenly in a huge rush to do something or other until about 20 minutes ago. If you haven't done the stone walls and wood floor, carry that on. If you've done the walls, don't bother doing the interior until I get on again (hopefully) tomorrow night.
damn these school trips and late-night drama performances are gonna kill me.
I will definitely be on on saturday, though.

Hi All

We've just encountered the same crash from before. The world is corrupt again. I'm gonna leave the server down until 1.7.2 comes out and see if it works better. Luckily we had a backup less than an hour ago this time.

Yeah I missed and placed it on the wrong block, the piston extended into the space the torch was then both of the blocks disappeared and it crashed.

I know the temptation is always to have the new hotness that an update brings, but it seems that quite often these new updates bring with them terrible bugs as well.

Might it be worth in the future waiting to see how an update performs in general on the internet before upgrading the Dakka server?

For example, if we hear word that doing 'X' with a piston can cause world corruption, then its probably best not to be using that update until that issue is fixed with another update, don't ya think?

I'm basically using pistons as a way to make a very interesting fence.

I love pistons

However when it comes to pistons vs stability, i vote stability.

I vote banning Corpses as he took the server down in one swift blow.

Yeah, we got pretty badly burned with this update. As the 1.6 update was massive and the worst that came from the update was dodgy tools, I was hoping we could ride out any bugs in the relatively small 1.7 update with the benefit of getting to play with the new stuff.
Obviously not.
The 1.8 update will be a massive update so it will definitely be worth holding back and letting others take the pain of the bugs before we take the plunge.
On a more positive note, Jens has said that corrupted maps will be fixed by the coming patch, so hopefully we will not need a second rollback. I'll test it when I can (may not be till this evening) and if all's well I'll start the server up again.

Toadstools are pretty commonly associated with goblins and fairies.

Also I rubberbanded into the lava moat around grundz's after building felsi's retractable wall [now complete] and now I am lagging like mad.
