so in a couple of weeks, I, along with many other people my age are heading off to our first year of University! scary times, especially if you're in my situation where you're gonna be atleast 2 hours away from home most of the time and wont know anybody for the first few week.

I figured "What would be a better way to distract me from theses worries/ maybe break the ice with like minded flat mates, than to do a new army" (a weak excuse if any but it made sense at the time)

So I've opted to do a Minotaurs army using the vanilla codex rules, partially because I like the some of the Minotaurs fluff (and some of the awesome looking Forgeworld stuff) and also because space marines are fairly easy to recognise to anyone with at least a little bit of knowledge of the game.

so for starters

Fairly basic at the moment 2 tactical squads and a captain just enough for a basic army (though it will be added to, don't you worry)

The captain though I did build into a plastic Pedro Kantor, with the help of a sanguinary guard helmet I had spare, he has a shoulder bare at the moment though as I plan on getting some of the Forgeworld pads to pretty things up

The first tactical squad has also been built, using the cvheap and cheerful flamer/missle launcher loadout, though it should still be fairly versatile!

heres to an intresting blog and I hope you enjoy reading!

Looking good so far. Will the other tactical squad be flamer and missile launcher aswell?

Pedros all finished up!

Admittedly this guy was also a slight experiment with the colour scheme. Didn't end up getting any forgeworld pads, and I defiantly a'int freehanding that stuff! soo chevrons for now.

Shall be moving to the Tactical marines soon. just deciding on a little detail

Just in need of a little feedback on an idea.

We've all had the issue when we have same units in an assault or just generally being in close proximity, and being confused with what model belongs to which unit.

I'm thinking painting the Mohawk/ vent things on top of the marines helmets in different colours, on unit having the Mohawk in red the other in a bone white colour. Does this sound like a decent idea? or do you think it'd mess up the colour scheme too much?

i think that would work. another good way to color code your units is by doing the bases different colors.

Eye of Terra.

These look great!

The Minotaurs have some of the most advanced and rare equipment available to the Astartes as they receive a lot of extra support from Terra. They have a high ratio of Mk. 8 "Errant" armor as well. I simulate this by adding some extra armor (plasti-card) around the neck to achieve this effect with the standard figs. When FW comes out with their Mk 8's I'll upgrade... lol.

Just an idea for ya.

I think I'm using that suit for the sarg's, the tactical sprue comes with a torso front with a collar that goes pretty high, so whether that's it I'm not sure. One thing I do know though to help represent that bit of fluff is I'm hoping to get together a master of the forge for some dreadnought action!

Thanks for the words of encouragement
just to show I have been doing some painting, and so that this blog wont turn into a temporary ghost town as I work, got a couple WIP Tactical Sargents to show, still got to finish off the bronze and the reds and whites are still only at their basecoats, but they should be done by either later today or tomorrow

Managed to get one of the Tactical sergeants done. Probably gonna finish up his squad before I complete the second one

alright so it's freshers week, and I'm still settling in got a couple of tactical marines from the first squad painted up (everyone else is basecoated and washed) figured it's be good to have something to show after that little absence form getting ready to move to Uni

also grabbed some sternguad, no real mods other than the second beakie having a second combi melta (not the best photo mind but they're only primed at the mo)

shall try to keep this blog up to date, expect some brain storming occasionally

I clicked on the link all excited to see custom made 40K Minotaurs(Bull Men).

I like the way you posed your marines, they all look dynamic, like they are in the middle of doing something, instead of just standing around.

whilst painting some of the guys for the tactical squad, I got to thinking, I really wanna mess with a Master of the Forge for my army maybe on a bike but defiantly using a Conversion beamer.

The problem I've had (along with many it seems) is that I have no idea how to do it, I have considered using a termie assault cannon as a base and adding things too it, but I'm not sure if the idea falls flat or not. If anyone has any suggestions I'd be glad to hear

Ok so, got some things I had planned for the army probably wont grab much else for a bit (except maybe the forgeworld characters released a few months back)

and looking through the parts for the termies I had a brainwave for the conversion beamer once I saw the locator beacon! totally forgot that part existed and is a vague enough block of tech to be anything, so with that a heavy flamer the biker marine and a few bits from the venerable dread I built my master of the forge

and for those curious about the beamer

(I also used one of the claws from the furioso deads magna grapple to make the business end)

something that I've been toying with the idea of is doing some freehand work of the vehicles of my army something that not only pushes me a little bit (I've never really been that good at freehand, but it's something I want to learn) but to also give my army that extra bit of flavour.
of course with the ancient Greece theme that the Minotaurs have Greek pottery seems like a good style to go for

so today as a little break from just doing the tactical marines I did a little practice, trying to emulate the style used on the pots, it's not great but with a little bit of practice I can imagine it looking fairly nice on the dreadnought and razorback I have at the moment

any tips and criticism are always welcome!

looks good for a trial run. i like the "splattered" look. it'll make your dread and razorback look brutal! keep up the great work my friend, this army is turning out to be something quite special

Many thanks! I may be tempted to use that brush stroke idea to make them look more brutal hadn't originally considered it as I was just testing on paper!

to help get some more practice in I went ahead and did a little free-hand on the cowl of the masters bike

the rest is still a work in progress but it certainly helps him stand out as one of the leaders for the army

you should paint a simple minotaur silhouette in the same style on that front wheel cover! that would look wicked! i know it isn't their specific logo, but it would suit the name and again, look BRUTAKULAR! (lol, just made that word up!)

thanks for the inspiration by the way! i've been working on my own chapters of marines and it's tough to keep up with you, but it keeps me motivated for sure. keep up the great work!
