Here's my idea, how much would it cost to buy an entire Space Marine chapter in models?

Yes, it's an almost ludicrous idea. However, people do ludicrous things all the time! Be it true to Guilliman's Codex Astartes, or perhaps a smaller chapter like the Raven Guard, or even huge like the Space Wolves or Black Templar, or however the player decided to design their own personal chapter, it would be interesting to get a idea of how much it would cost to own as entire chapter's worth of Space Marines

The cheapest I could get was 900 of the snap together space marines that cost $10 each (so basically every SM company is composed of ALL tactical squads with ALL boltguns) and 100 SM scouts, with a chapter master, coming out at $3,522.25 USD, NO VEHICLES

However, running into the expensive side of things, I know this could potentially cost far over $20,000, including predators, rhinos, drops pods, land raiders, thunderhawks, etc...

Because the Dakka community is an international one, post in whatever currency you wish. They can be estimate costs if bought used from a 3rd party source (such as ebay or amazon where the costs change between each bid and seller, but these must be reasonable prices). I only used GW prices for a basic reference

That wouldn't be a SM chapter...
It'd be damn expensive to say the least...

I don't even want to think about how much that's going to cost in Australian dollars.

It cost me around $800 to make my SM company (I didn't pay full retail and the derp pods were scratchbuilt from templates) so probably around 10-12x that (unless you're an aussie, in which case 20-25X that).

At current prices, you'd be better off putting that down as a deposit for a house.

For everything in the blood angels army except the fleet, 13 librarian acolytes and the non-scout neophytes it costs approx £9035 from wayland games except for things like lemartes and corbulo.

£2000 of that is for the 51 stormravens though!

I have the spreadsheet if anyone is interested. I took some liberties in estimating that 1/6th could fall to the black rage so there are 165 death company marines in that too. I also assumed that there were 2 squads of bikes in the assualt company, and that the 100 dedicated transports were 50 rhinos, 25 razorbacks, 25 drop pods. Since land speeders are auxilary I guesstimated 25 of them aswell although it wouldn't surprise me if they had 100!

There are many deals on Marines especially if you go used/ebay route.

While an entire chapter would still be crazy expensive I bet you could do it for only a couple grand U.S (living in the U.S).

It would take a lot patience and a lot of time but there are some crazy good deal on marines out there.

Why not pick one company and start from there? Add 1st and 10th company assets as you go and pick a second battle company or reserved company to start adding to your original company. For example I have the 2nd company blood angels. I use support elements from the 1st, 3rd, 8th and 10th companies. I would like to complete some of those companies. Unless I win the lottery and then can not only afford the minis but can afford to spend the time painting them I assume you would be looking at one long monotonous labor of love to paint an Entire chapter. If money is not issue you could pay to have them painted but for me that would ruin the personal connection to the army. My wife would kill me if I had 1000+ marines and hundreds of vehicals in our basement. Talk about hoarding lol.

If you really want a chapter, look for megaforces. The spear of sicarius way back when cost a little over $1000 and was a full company in drop pods. 9 of those, plus some extra captains, librarians, ect comes too a little over $10000. You save 50%

Except the Spear isn't avaliable anymore. I doubt it'll be one of their annual christmas package deals like the Megaforces.

@Grey Templar: The 6th company of a Codex Chapter is also a 'Tactical Company', comprising of 10 tac squads. IIRC, they're also the dudes who train heavily in bikes and get the lions share of the chapters bikes & attack bikes. (7th company are the land speeder 'flyboyz'!)

Waaaaaay back during the GW 25th anniversary year, they had a limited time deal for an entire Chapter. IIRC it was $7000(USD) and only came with 1 Forge World thunderhawk!

I believe chapters have 3 reserve companies. 1 Tactical, 1 Assault, and 1 Devestator. And I know its the Assault company that mans all the Bikes and Landspeeders(plus all Assault Squads from the Line companies are trained to use Bikes and Speeders too)

The 3rd edition space marines codex (which I thought I still had, but can't find now ... Still have the SW one ...) had a picture on the inside of the front cover that showed the entire Ultramarines chapter done by 'Eavy Metal team. I can't seem to find it in google searches, but I know it was there.

This was before drop pods and they has the 2nd edition smaller rhinos and razorbacks. No land raiders either. Maybe two thunder hawks?

I know for a fact that there are four Reserve Companies in a Codex Astartes Chapter - two Tactical, one Assault, one Devastator - although the Red Scorpions have a third Tactical Company, and only three Battle Companies...

Well if you can track it down, there were for a while a boxed set avalable by gw for apocalypse, simply known as a battle company. The price at gw is 450 (psst you could probably buy it on ebay or somewhere other then gw for 350) This is all I can contibute at the moment.

You were correct. The SM codex does list 2 tactical reserve companies(the 6th and 7th)

I'll adjust the cost total.

Actually the easy way to do this is to build your Chapter as the Crimson Fists right after the Snagrod Waagh attacked Rynn's World.

If I recall correctly you would only need like 218 marines or somehting like that.

Not too expensive.

There was an article in a White Dward (IIRC) where they showed off a guy who had an entire (painted) Chapter.

The Crimson Fists are pretty much a Codex Astartes Chapter so not sure why this would not work.

At the other end of the spectrum would be the Black Templars as there are more of them than any other loyalist marines, however they do not truely follow the Codex Astartes.

Ha ha I'm nearly there then! I am one devastation squad short of a battle company as per apocalypse rules!

Crimson fists are an offshoot chapter of imperial fists but they are proper and were heavily featured in rogue trader, that's why I like them.
