Flyers with Vtol ability can as can deep strikers. However I think we would have to apply common sense to this, as in what the landing pad looks like, if it is off the ground or not, etc... If it is off the ground with no way of acessing it via a stable ramp then I would say "no", otherwise if it is on the ground then yes.

If not a flyer, then you can only get there if you place it there when you are deploying, but you have no way of getting off.

Not actually true.

The rules for the Skyshield state that moving on or off the pad counts as moving through difficult terrain. No distinction is made for any particular troop type, so vehicles can move on or off just like anybody else.

How bizarre, given the general lack of access routes to the top surface. Infantry I can see using ladders or something, but vehicles? Unless the whole thing can retract into the ground, which would be the only way for cargo to be brought down I suppose... OK, I've changed my mind, Its feasible

Because someone deployed tanks on top of it, that's why.

And, since it's not a ruin, I can fire my indirect barrages at models under it, correct?
After all, if it played like a ruin, you couldn't place vehicles on it.

I see nothing wrong with that, to be honest. Deployment wise, there's nothing preventing it.

Indeed. Could be a nice place to chuck a couple of manticores/bassies.

I believe there is a rule in the skyshield section abojut skimmers not taking difficult terrain tests if it's unfurled.

Would seem to indicate that vehicles can be up there RAI-wise.

RAW-wise there really is no argument against it. It's pretty clear that they can.

there it is:

'Jetbikes and Skimmers dom not need to take difficult terrain tests for moving on to or off of an unfurled Skyshield landing pad.

Yup, it's all cool til you roll a one for difficult terrain. Or when your opponent decided to target the building and not the tank...

It's not a building, so can't be targeted.

It's a Fortification on pg 115 of the BRB.

It's a Fortification of Terrain Type: Unique, as explained in its rules entry.

No rules are provided that would allow you to attack it.

Exactly this. The terrain type is unique. In fact, none of the "fortifications" on pages 114-117 are defined as Terrain Type:Fortification.

You could no more attack the skyshield landing pad and destroy it than you could the aegis defence line.

It (the skyshield) is a piece of terrain, nothing more, nothing less.

Yeah I kinda assume it can be lowered enough to let vehicles on and off, refuelling, dropping cargo or using sky talons would be really awkward otherwise. The supports on it look as though they're some kind of collapsable hydraulic thingy. I assume it raises up for stuff to take off/land more conveniently and also whenever it needs to deploy its defences.

Did you know? The Reach belongs to the Forsworn.
