Now, certainly the character's been handled in cheesy ways over the decades. But Ed Brubaker finally elevated that book to what it could have been a long time ago. Although I think the book has leveled off a bit since Bucky took the shield.
Anyway, I like most everything I've seen about the movie* and think they seem to be taking the right approach...but I'm gonna reserve judgment until I see it. I'm a Cap curmudgeon. There...I said it.
*Steve Rogers is crazy puny. I think they're taking visual cues from the John Byrne origin from the '80s, but I preferred the origin treatment in "The Adventures of Captain America" from the early '90s. In that, he was a tall, skinny beanpole...so the serum just filled him out rather than lengthening his femurs, etc. I admit this is all nitpicking, mind you.
Some of Cap's other cheesey elements is him not killing people in WWII despite being a soldier. However, the trailer shows him shooting a gun so I'm thinking this is gonna be better than the comic.
Anyways, like a lot of Canadians I was not too impressed with Cap. However during Civil War he came out as a total badass mutherfether and now I'm actually a big fan.

not a bad trailer I guess.
Might pick up up the main series books.. or just wait for the collection.
Liking some of the "Flashpoint" books too.

That movie seems like it's going to knock it out of the park or be horrible. Hopefully its good it looks like it costs a bazzilion dollars to make.

There's very little the ring can't make, as a GL gets more and more experienced they can create all manner of constructs.

Still rocking the JLI and Brightest Day series, also picked up #1 of the new FF series, looks lovely and some great ideas in there. little WTF over some of the characters in the book -- but that's to be expected I guess. Felt it was a little overhyped overall, but I'll give it a few issues and see how it goes.

Is anyone watching Smallville. I quit with the 2nd season but was interested in it again since I first heard about episodes with Flash and Green Arrow. And now there'll be an episode with Blue Beetle and Booster Gold.
Is this show wort watching (again)? Or can I just pick out a few episodes without watching the entire 10 season run?

I got it too. Same reaction. It's apparent that its not really FF #1 but FF # 588 (or whatever). I'll give it a few more too. I like the concept though. If you look at all the other marvel super-teams like the X-men and Avengers they've literally had like hundreds of roster changes. They also started with 4-5 members too but have grown . The Fantastic Four have stayed pretty much the same because of their name. I wonder if there roster will become as malleable as the other teams or wether they'll just bring Johnny Storm back from the dead and hit the reset button. One of which is Fear Itelf #1. Resounding 'meh" on that one. Still couldn't really tell you what this event is about. Something to do with Nazis and Asgardians. Anyone have any recommendations on what issues I should start with for the new Question, Renee Montoya?

I agree. I don't follow Thor, but last time I saw Asgard was in Siege when Sentry did it over...
.. and now... but... if he's.. fix with a click of the finger then...
Most odd. Still female anti Thor ... ?... and Odin.. ins't Odin then ?
Oh well.
It also features a riot in New York because of a mosque being built near ground zero
how weird was that whole scene ? I wonder if the editors fiddles with it in some way, it was somewhat crass.
I assume that was there so they can crowbar in the return of Steve to the Cap. role later this summer.

Read the first issue of the new Avengers. The art is nice, but not quite on the level I'm used from Romita. And I'm not a big fan of the Avengers' kids coming back. I was hoping we'd be done with them after the animated movie.
That paired with the fact that Avengers only comes out together with the New Avengers means that I wont continue reading the series. There are too many cool amazon tradepaperbacks I'm interested in.
Has anyone read the new Batman Beyond stuff? Is it any good?

..to howls of outrage from a previously uniterested media.
And Fox. Go figure.
and FYI http://scans-daily.dreamwidth.org/2941226.html
Brightest Day came to a satisfying conclusion. very happy to see and even more surprised by the appearence and language used on the last page. Made me chuckle, and I guess the word is perhaps not widely used in the USA so isn't seen as offensive. I recall them getting away with it in episodes of Buffy years ago.
.. well, that and chuckling at the unfortunate moniker of one Thomas spanker who worked on the show.
The JLI title also finished, and is being followed up with an ongoing series later, which I'm happy about. Mainly as I'm daftly fond of Captain Atom and think post his own series/the demise of JLE he's been treated badly and he's a cool character who deserves better.
Zatanna was a fill in issue, and I worked out, more or less, how to solve the issue, but it was a fun little read for a filler issue.
LoS I'm a bit torn about. I haven't picked up the adventure comics stories/arcs so am a little lost, and it seems I have also missed the one shot villains book which I'll have to track down. But I'll stick with it for the moment. Some nice art and some intriguing ideas, especially to do with the GLs of that era.
Also picked up the next tpbk of The Boys, this one collecting Hamish' own mini series. Hmm... wasn't as impressed with this one as some of the previous books. Some funny jokes in it, but once again I felt that Ennis had written or used many of them before in past works. Some ncie references to UK comics and the like, but I think the recent Knight & Squire series did a much better, and funnier job of this.
