is there an effect of overwatered details? or does the use of washes give a very smooth coverage to the paint. all the water evaporates/dries and the pigments of the wash stay behind. is that the methode behind this?
is a wash only water with pigments or is there more to it?
thanks, vik

There is more to it than just water and pigment - If you try an do this by adding water to paint you get a more blotchy effect. there is something in ink/wash that helps it spread more smoothly. you can get wash medium online which you can then add paint to I think. I've got all the old citadel washes myself. I'm not entirely sure what the effect will finally be - but I was hoping for a very smooth blending effect. I think for a model like this where the colours are predominantly metallic it will work very well.

well I'm pleased with the result - I will use it again for a lot of bits.
I think It works really well as a base coat for the all the metalics Automatically Appended Next Post: I might add a final wash to tone down the robe

well the model look really good to my, especially the robe.
may i give you some advice for this special model?
i would break up the metal parts, as this model has quite a lot of it. i would use flesh wash to do some of the hydraulics stuff in brass. just minor points like the bolts and so on to give the viewer something more to look on when he reviews the bionics. also i´m not that fond with the blue color on that mechanic axe. though the paintjob is exellent i think its not the right color, but that might just be me. if asked i would say use the red also there...
after that much critics one thing there is to praise:
i absolutley love the effect you did on the (search-) light. its really good looking and the blendingeffect is so smooth...i´ve read so much about that technique but i cant pull it off...seems i am way to hektic when painting and wanting fast results, but with that you need to take your time.
despite my view suggested critsisms a very outstanding model
thanks for sharing the step by step again^^, vik

You are probably right about the hydraulics. I might try doing that before I start another. I dont know - winter blues.
I complained to my stupid brain dead new boss about always being on sundays. I said why cant he rotate the shifts (the answer is because he is brain dead). So now he has out me on every saterday as well. I hope he gets cancer.

sorry about the complete lack of anything - not keeping up my reputation as a fanatical speed painter am I. Its only been three days and it feels like an age - I have more chaos squats and chainsaw warrior types in the post today. But I'm all out of car primer and the local harware shop only has black left. Its no excuse as I've got tons of undercoated minis just waiting but I have been busy self publisizing the art on various forums and my head is full of ceramic figurines rather than gothic sci-fi lead ones. Winter seems to have a draining effect on the artistic soul as well. Maybe I will do some painting tonight and have updates tommorow. Thanks for your support everyone

Winter blues , the weather just saps the spirit. But glad your ceramics are not missing out, They are really very good! remind me of hobbits , some of em. I can't believe its only been 3 days , see what happens when you update regularly , feels all the more spartan when you dont! lol. but don't stress over it , real life always takes precedence, and when your new minis appear we shall appreciate them all the more.
good luck with your promotion!

Yeah she is a escher juve. The last time I painted this mini she was the girl next door - white top, blue jeans and blond hair (the girl next door doesn't usually carry a pistol and a pick axe but you get the idea). So I guess my style preferences have changed a bit...

its kind of morbid dont you think to chop heads of and arms and the likes^^
but all we take we give back, as in the old saying:
what goes around will come around...
i am quite good sometimes i think in converting. the only one thing that i truly lack of is plucking up enough currage to do GS work
i tried clay (the air dry thingy) and used childred putty and got wuite good results, but i´m rather afraid to use my GS stock...
its so damn expensive and i dont want to waste it... also you have to time your work very well with it as when you get disturbed i guess you cann fully well ruin your work... and i got kids that run around the block in our house it feels like 24/7...

well yeah actually I can understand completely - I have nieces - when they are around they demand attention!
GS is great for doing in small doses - that way you get around the time problem - When I did my dreadnought I started with milliput beacause you can carve it when its dry - I only did the detail in GS as it seems better for small detail

that weapon looks very steampunky, if it werent for the hairdo and the bare chest i would consider them also a good fit for my upcoming army...maybe i have to invest in some orkheavy weapons...to make it look more british...

lol guys. I'm very please with their eyes - cant stress enough how important it is to have a really really small pointy brush!
The gun really is a bit steam-punk retro isn't it - nothing like a bit of brass.
I used to have friends with blue hair and purple boots back in college - the best one was my friend Tegan who used to have a purple velvet trench-coat. Everyone's gone conventional now just to make life easier (less catcalls from chavs and the police don't automatically assume your a pothead) Oh to be young and crazy again!

Lol i had purple satin pants with black paisley flowers , that were far too tight for my own good! though never blue hair to my recolection, which to be fair isnt that great. ( And not even my disco dancing pants either lol) well untill my Fiancee knicked them , and i got too fat .... oh to be a 28 inch waist again.......
The eyes have it ! thats why i fancy her big open wide eyed expression gets me everytime!
@ vik "born grandad" like benjamin button , now i have another new name to go with all the others

and i thought being mental would sum it up pretty good...
i lke the brow of hers. i lkie that in a womans look. to many women shave and trim their eyebrows to a too thin line for my taste. i don´t say all women should look like Bert from sesame street but if a natural look is achieved i´m the first to be stunned by just looking a women in the eyes...seriously!
but taste is something one shouldn´t argue about anyways...
