Great group shots, I love the way the old spacemarines are smaller than guardsmen.... just as its ment to be, little people in cans!

yes they were much smaller back then - I suppose the desision to make them a bit bigger back in the 90s was a good idea as it makes sculpting and painting a lot easier and allows more detail.

So this is my step by step picture essay: "what I did when I woke up early and got bored"

First a wash of armour wash over the white primer

Then base colours, Liche purple mixed with a little white, crimson, crimson mixed with purple, bestial brown, yellow wash on the bits which will be gold

Then dusty green for the priestly scarf thing? and blue wash on the gloves.
Then hit it with some watered down armour wash.
Then highlights - gold, chainmail, tenticle pink for the robes, more dusty green and just a smidge of white on the skull mask.

Undiluted armour wash on metalic areas, flesh wash for face. Thats that one done. 4hours including drying time when I was just fiddling about with facebook and playing solitaire.

So thats my trade secrets revealed. But I try and do em all differently so as to learn new things.

so this will come in handy when i start painting again. but...

i have a question. what is armor wash? i had a quick google search and all i was given was armor wash for car protection. so i would guess my research was not right, right?

as for the model , i think i would buy the mini even in nonpainted firstwash state^^. looks very cool just then.
my fihures i mostly dont prime, well i use some color called smelly primer from citadel...but i guess thats no real primer...when i start the paintorama for my steampink army i will certainly begin priming as i see now what effects you can create when primed. i understand why you wash. and also you have quite good, no! exelllent brush control. you seem to have no need in repainting certain areas...
well thats something i have to get learned too...

thanks for the step by step.

I remember smelly primer just because of the name - don't remember what it was for though. The primer I use is Hi-coat matt acryllic car primer because to be honest I cant tell the difference between that and gw.
As for brush control, when I do get paint where I don't want it I take a slightly damp clean brush and immediatly wipe away the offending paint before it dries which mostly eliminates the need for repainting.

I highly recomend the use of a spray primer and washes. It makes all the difference.

Armour wash is a dark grey-black wash that GW used to do - maybe they call it something different these days. But vallejo still sell it as armour wash.

ah, thats something then to look out for. i love playing with washes. if you have looked into my earthangels then you saw some verrrry heavy washed minis there. got some old fleshwash i love to use. also i have nearly deepleted my sepia and my orgyn flesh wash. need to by more i guess.
also i got some ork flesh wash(?) i would love to use but i dont paint in green at the moment...

for now i have a mostly unused grey carpaint primer, you think i should use it on minis too, never spryed minis before...
i´m sure it will get messy for me...

and for getting away with brushmistakes, i have a box of earsticks(?) always on my desk for quick corrections...which i have to do often but not so often as when i started. guess i get better after all^^.

I did tone it down a tiny bit by mixing in a little brown - so it was greenish. But you should try it it might look nice.

Thanks hangfire!!

Today I pinned this bad ass walker together - Its another of bob olley's scrunt (squat) walkers (sentinels). I just lov these and wish I could afford more than one - but I get bored painting the same model twice anyway.

fear not weety, for i sincerely doubt that in your collection there wont be any doubles of minis, or are there?
repetition is also something i don´t like. even in talk i dont like it. makes me edgy and i think i would waste time...

p.s. cool model. are sqauts the fun side of 40k or what?^^

Nice painting again You don't fool me though, if you examine the starfield behind the mini, it's obvious there were weeks between shots, it's quite evident you've constructed a rudimentary flux capacitor from a potter's wheel two bikes and a plastic dolly

The servo-grots have started bickering about the best way to loot a scrunt walker now.

I think your grots would love a scrunt walker it is just the right size for them. As for the flux capacitor I think I may be living in a 1980-1990 time warp which is causing temporal flux.

Vic I agree with you on repetition- If I have more than one then one must be converted - or just sold on ebay.

I've just put together a 2nd edition sentinel ive had kicking around for ages and the dread has his engine so I've got three walkers to paint and I'm going to make another soon - a whole army of walkers!!

The second edition sentinel is funny looking. Badly posed If you ask me - maybe if I put some extra guns on it?

thats what converting is for to make hordes armies still worthwhile...otherwise i would crack. it´s why i ended up playing with a guardsmen army anyway. got far more nids in my cupboard than i got currently guardsmen...but the nids freak me out when i think about making hordes of gaunts that all look exatcly the same...

Ohoh, so is the dread done now? Pics before you paint?

More dakka is always good And chainsaws.

And dakka.

And maybe a stick with a nail in it? Just to be sure.

Vik - convert all the 'nids too

thats the prob, with nids i havent the foggiest wher to start and what to use...despite the obvious GS which i´m still afraid to use...expensive stuff and i tend to be very much a scrooge when it comes to my materials...

i like repetition ,i like repetition in nids makes them seem like ants or termites , millions of creatures with one alien objective . the fact there is no individuality makes them seem more alien and scary . but from a creative point of view i agree

Some more wips. I'm trying out coloring with washes for a more subtle finish (I hope) I started with building up layers of red wash, 3-4 of em and then finished with a layer of purple - not sure where to go now - I could leave it bright and cheerful but I think a techpriest deserves a bit of grime - They dont care for hygiene so long as their bionics are well polished and greased. So I think I might add a layer of green-brown wash
