As you can see we have a couple different things going on here. First off we have my trygon that I've had for quite some time and am just now painting. He has a lot to do but you get an idea where I'm going. I am not happy with his painted claw, so that will most likely change, but the colors will not. The next picture is Brother Mattawatzu one of my death company dreadnoughts. I tried out Grey_death's battle damage tutorial and it works great. Very simple and doesn't take very long at all, the hardest part is deciding when to stop. The last picture is of my marine swap for Poly. I revisited Yggs tutorial on adding the light effect. The picture is a bit dark but we're getting there. I need to continue to work on the light effect skill. As always suggestions are appreciated!

I really like the Trygon, great color scheme. The weathering is very good as well, looks very battle worn.

Like the OSL on the marine, though to me I'd rather call his weapon a combi-melta, rather than combi-bolter (which are the Chaos counterparts of stormbolters, if I'm correct). Great conversion, looks really tech-y!!!

As for the Dread battle damage, I think it'd look better if some of the chips were a bit larger. I don't know why, it looks real good that way, but I have that kind of feeling...

Keep up the good work!

Chaos version of the stormbolter is a twin-linked bolter

Great OSL by the way Ice Angel

So I've slowly made some progress on Mattawatzu, I think I may actually paint his claws blue to match, but over all the battle damage is working well. I need to paint something on his name plate and after looking at the pictures I think I will paint the sesimc hammer housing white, it looks a bit odd being the only black flat panel on him. As for my marine swap, I added a bit more lighting on his back pack and started working on his base. I need to add some ice bits, but for the most part he is good to go. Thoughts?

Finished up Mattawatzu other then his name plate, he needs a nick name or I need a smaller brush to try and fit Mattwatzu on there, lol. Thoughts?

Maybe write something else on the name plate and write his name on a shin pad or something??

Good idea, I may have to go that route. I think next time though I should paint the name on the shin first before weathering.

Lighting effect on the Marine looks very well, not overdone, and not too dark. Also, it's very finely blended into the surface, so it looks pretty realistic, not like another layer of paint slapped on.

So the Trygon progress has slowed down a bit. I did change his tongue color and really all that's left to do is add the detail on his plates that go down his back and tail, that however is turning to be a rather dull task.

While taking this pics I did take this one as well! The marine swaps are always a good reminder of how much better other people are at painting then I am, lol.

@Sage - I have actually been spending most of my time writing Ice Angel fluff. I decided to write a separate story to submit to the black library, but the task is proving to be taking longer then expected. Once it is completed I'll once again add to my fiction blog, but I do not know how much longer this will take me. In the mean time you'll have to wait. Sorry.

Nice Trygon!

Dont put yourself down! Your Ice Angels (especially the newer colour scheme) look great. That pic also shows how nice the gradients on Gits MW are, its the best pic ive seen of them.

I have finally completed my trygon. Next is my repair of Polyd8's marine. After that though I am a bit undecided. I have plenty of orks to paint along with quite a few Ice Angels. I am leaning towards working on the Ashurbani again but my priority is to finish up my story so I can then go back to adding to my dakka ice angel fluff. Some where WAY down the road I will have to get Poly's marine involved as well. He needs a name as well.

Thoughts?

Yesterday I had a really fun battle against my buddy, Logan Grimmnar and his space puppies. I decided to spice it up a bit and play with my orks. I used nearly every ork model I have, which is about 1500 points of randomness. It was an objective based game and technically I won, I however had only 7 guys on the board and he had about 16. I don't have any pictures or a really battle report per say, but I do have some musings about my various ork units. Please chime in for I have only played with my orks a handful of times so far, it is a work in progress for sure.

Before I get to my ork break down, I did want to mention that my opponent put Logan Grimnar in a drop pod with a group of long fangs, he gave them all relentless so they could fire the turn they dropped. First turn he dropped in on my side of the board and unleashed split fire hell. It should have gone terrible for me but he rolled TERRIBLE and I only lost a biker and a kan, but it was an interesting idea.

As for my orks, here is what I was playing with.

Warboss
Weirdboy
Gretchen
Boys
Nobs on trukk
Meganobs
Loota's
Burna's
Bikers
Stormboyz
Killa Kans

I like the warboss because I could get the nobs as troops but he himself wasn't all that useful, at least in this game. My weirdboy killed more orks then wolves. The gretchen actually held an objective, for the points that was super handy. My boys didn't fair so well, the nobs on the trukks took out an entire unit of long fangs before getting massacred by some gray wolves. The meganobs did great, may have to get a battle wagon for them. The lootas usually do well for me, but they didn't hit anything and then got torn up by Logan in CC. Burnas lasted me nearly the entire game but didn't have the opportunity to fire much, not sure they are worth the points. They didn't get to fight in CC either. The bikers are great, I may have to try a nob biker unit next time. The stormboyz actually did well, they made it across the board and took out a dreadnought in CC on their first charge, I think I was rather lucky with them this time. The killa kans did great and are totally worth the diddly amount of points you pay for them.

All in all it was a great game and a blast, I did learn a few things but also had a few questions. For example, the runtherd has the squig hound that lets you reroll morale checks. How many rerolls can you take in a turn? Is that determined by the number of gretchen in the unit or is it only once?

Btw, Logan Grimnar is a jerk.

You're friends with Logan Grimnar!?

Dont really know much about Orks, check out DashofPepper posts in the army lits/tactics forums. IIRC he knows what hes doing with Orks.

I haven't been doing a lot of modeling or painting as of late, but I did get a random urge to make some terrain. As you can see I now have some tall ice/rock/spire thingies. I still have plenty to do on them but at this stage you get a good idea what they will look like. There are a total of four terrain pieces of various sizes in there. Thoughts?

Good start, very good for BLOS terrain.

Did you use a hot wire cutter?

Correct! That is exactly what I wanted the terrain pieces to do too. I have plenty of hills and rubble/difficult terrain pieces, but nothing that was good at blocking line of sight. The only exception was my ork garage that ended up being almost too big.

I think they will look stunning on the table when done.

I think you should go with the ice theme rather than rocks/spires. Ii think the paint job will be easier for you and it will fit better with your fluff, your name and general theme. Makes me want to make some myself

PS - i love your Trygon!

Thanks Taffiarti! I will post up some more WIP pictures as I go along. I highly recommend you make some of these, they are easy and look really cool. As long as I don't butcher the paint job they should come out great.

You are too modest. I doubt it occurs to any of your readers that you will butcher them!

Out of interest what did you make them out of? I have often heard of the pink/blue insulation but I have never rely been able to find the GB equivalent.

I am not entirely sure what it is specifically called. I went to our local Lowes, which is a hardware super store, and purchased an 8' x 4' piece of blue insulation foam board. It's two or three inches thick and every easy to work with. Even the scraps can be used for all matter of fun stuff. Of that 8' x 4' board I have created a lot of hills and other pieces. I still have half of it left.
