@ SickSick6- I likely won't be doing that project unless one of those things just drops in my lap.
@ inmygravenimage- I'm not that motivated. I know that I would get excited about it, start it, get a decent amount done, and then it would sit on my Shelf of Shame for months, maybe years... possibly forever. If you go back through any of my P&M blogs you'll see pics of models I was wicked excited about... and then never see them again for months, if ever. Just admitting my limitations here. Thanks for the compliment on the new Plague Marines. Especially the backpacks, since those seem to "get me" the most when I don't finish some detail on them.
@ Tortured-Robot- Pred will be coming when I feel like I'm failing at getting anything done here because I can hammer out a vehicle in a couple days w/ pretty decent results. And as far as the RT guy goes, he didn't make the cut on the Havoc Lascannons, but his brother did w/ the Missile Launchers (old Conversion Beamer as ML proxy)
@ dsteingass- All of them
@ GreyDeathOne- I'm thinking 6,500ish but not sure, I'd have to do a recount. Suffice to say it's more than I can play all at once (unless APOC finally comes along)
@ Llamahead- Loot away! It's fast and simple, which are both important qualities!
Just dropping a reply tonight. I have some more work done but I've decided to wait until I have a full "squad" before sharing. But I'll leave a hint- think "old school". Think "15 years or more" ago. Yeah, you're ol' buddy Skalk did some digging and found a few gems to share.
...but not quite yet

I have to share this one too. THey have a free, unlimited blackberry that they don't have to pay for. Where in fantasy-land is this essential for business?
"I've been unable to send or receive pictures in text messages on my Blackberry even though this was supposed to be enabled from the time that I got the Blackberry. Please let me know why this is not enabled and when it will be working."
And this one:
"NYC - User needs loaner laptop or Desktop - as he left his laptop at home"
If I forgot my pants at home, I'm pretty sure they would make me go back home and get them, but you are allowed to be an idiot and forget the one tool you need to do your job and we'll give you a loaner.

@ Feldenglas- Can't wait to give you the flu, and a few other diseases as well. Bring your Space Wolves, I'd like the opportunity to thrash on the Emperor's Finest again. See you very soon.
@ Limbo- got your PM, will reply soon.
It's times like this where I wish the Death Guard had a catch-phrase battle cry like "BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!!!" because if they did, I'd be roaring it right now. I'm wicked psyched to share this update w/ you all, and not only for the reason I promised above. I have an additional surprise that I think you're going to really like. But more on that later!
Oh, the suspense!
First up is the next installment in "vanilla" Plague Marines but with a couple twists. One obviously isn't "vanilla" at all, he's an Icon Bearer. And every model in this update is 2nd Edition or older. Oh, the good old days:
I will admit the old plastic Plague Marines are a bit cartoonish compared with the current plastic range (or even their metal contemporaries) but there's just so much history with them for me that I can't let them go.
(L to R) Old plastic Plague Marine converted back to as close to original as possible (the pickelhaube had been broken off and apparently the Plague Knife had been cut off. This model was an eBay rescue and no idea what the original owner did to it), Rogue Trader CSM, and 2nd Ed CSM plastic that embraced the love of Father Nurgle.
(L to R) Another 2nd Ed plastic converted to the winning team, 2nd Ed metal Plague Marine, and another 2nd ed plastic Plague Marine.
Now before people get too excited about the metal Plague Marine in the middle, understand that it is a REPAINT of a model I had already included in the Death Guard, it's NOT new. Here's what he used to look like:
Not a terrible job, but a rather inattentive one. Didn't pick out details like rivets (RIVETS!!), the flies, anything on his backpack, lame work on his Bolt Gun and Chain Sword, etc. Now it is complete. And it is the first model from the current Death Guard force to have its base converted from 1996 model train flock to 2011 rocks.
Next up is the "star attraction" of the newest squad- the mighty Nurgle Icon Bearer:
I put a bit more work into this that the other models. Blown up to full screen it looks horrible, but at "tabletop range" I can assure you it looks awesome! I really like how the Icon came out. I'll be putting this on the table very soon.
I know I have other things I could be doing like the Defiler and the Lascannon Havocs and the Khornate Chosen... but there's something really satisfying about getting some "rank and file" Marines out of the "to do" pile and adding them to the completed force. I expect I'll be continuing this trend for a while, so stay tuned!
That's it for this one! Hope you like the new stuff because I really do. C&C always appreciated, and if you like what you see here, tell your friends. Comments and readership really motivates me to keep going. Until next time, thanks for reading!
...what? I forgot something?
Hmm.
Oh yeah... you mean... THIS?
DEATH FOR THE DEATH GOD!
I am SO psyched on that model! It's my new Plague Marine Sorcerer and I love it! It started out as this:
It was completely by accident. I picked it up to paint some trim on it while I was waiting for something else to dry and realized that head appears numerous times in my army already, so I ripped it off. The I looked at the "claw" and it was the same thing, multiple instances of the same arm. Off it came. And upon closer inspection the Bolt Gun was from the old Khorne Bezerkers plastic kit. *snap*.
So there I was, holding a torso w/ legs. The entire thing looked lithe and weedy. Whatever. I tossed it onto the "I might get to this someday" pile and got back to work on finishing the squad above. Time passed, and for some reason I kept picking it back up. I had valid reasons for tearing it apart, but I felt kinda bad for ripping it up and tossing it to the very end of the line when I know it was psyched to have been getting some work done on it, maybe join the active force, and suddenly torn apart and discarded. I figured I'd rebuild it as a regular Marine and move on. As I was looking for bitz I saw the head (can't remember the company right now and too lazy to look it up) and had a vision of a Force-weapon wielding terror commanding forces across a blighted and devastated battlefield... the bitz came together quickly after that. WFB Chaos Knight arm, chop off weapon... add WFB Zombie scythe, dig through bitz box, Combi-weapon w/ Flamer... and GS. Must have GS to thicken him up and add some Nurgle bloat. And it needs a hood. With a spike through it. How aboiut a belt... a plastic zip tie will work. Belt buckle courtesy of the end of a WFB Zombie spear shaft. Backpack needs to be more epic and large, swap that... the banner pole is perfect, use that...
Cut / glue / sculpt / paint... and here are the results from different angles:
I really really really like this model. I could use is as my Chaos Lord as well, but I think I'm going to keep it dedicated to being a Sorcerer.
The phots do not do it any justice, which is a shame. I know I'm not the best painter out there but I used some highlights and MNM on the scythe blade and did some blending and drybrush... I put effort into this model. 100% spur of the moment inspiration that I saw through from start to finish in less than 12 hours while I was working on other projects at the same time. Pretty awesome.
That's really it for this one. I'm heading out for a while (social obligations and all that) but I'll be back tonight.
Thanks for looking!

@ inmygravenimage- Yeah, me too, especially when there wasn't a "plan" to being with. Father Nurgle speaks to me through plastic and metal. All I do is listen.
@ genom.cor- Yeah, I really like the old stuff a lot. I'm hoping to someday get my hands on for Forge World torsos, but unless they fall out of the sky I think I'll be spending my $$$ elsewhere. I'm more of a "bargain basement" modeler, I rarely buy something new / retail unless I wicked need it, and w/ those I don't, they'd just be awesome.
@ Tortured-Robot- ... dude, all of my modeling moments are random.
@ Llamahead- The zip tie was pure happenstance, I was looking for... anything, was thinking about using a chain, moved some junk out of the way and there it was. I'll be doing that again for sure!
@ Limbo- FOR NURGLE!!! Yeah, I like the sound of that. "Death for the Death God" is kinda fun though. I plan on roaring it as loud as I can the next time I play (fair warning to Kalt, Feldenglas, and Daichallar).
Hi folks. Was just sitting in the back room painting the trim on my next batch of Marines but wasn't "feeling it", was more "paint by numbers to get it done". I stopped for a bit and started thinking about what exactly I have left to do. I have the Khornate Chosen squad, fiddled w/ them a moment and knew they weren't up next. Dug around my bikes, only have 2 of them, need 5 more, that's not going to work because I only work on a full squads at a time... same w/ the Raptors. Really want another Land Raider and eBay has quite a few in my price range but they aren't here right now... plus I need another project sitting on my bench like a hole in the head.
And then, there it was. Passed over for months and months, I decided it was time to get started on the Defiler.
As you can see I've already chopped it up pretty well. I'm debating if I want the CCWs to be the huge claws that came with it, or if I want to model them on the arms of the Giant that will be playing the roll of a Nurgle Daemon.
And yes, there will be a LOT of GS on this. I'm expecting to use most of a tube, but that's ok because this project is exactly why I bought a space.
More coming soon!
EDIT- What do yo think of this? Too much? Awesome? Let me know.

In answer to your question, yes. It is too much. TOO MUCH AWESOME!
I am actually looking at doing almost the opposite. I have ordered most of the pieces of a defiler, I don't have the bits yet, so I can't really see how they look together, but I am looking at putting Daemon Prince arms on the regular defiler torso for the additional DCCW's. Do you think that would look silly? Do you know if they are too small or not?
Anyway, I would go with just the one monster claw, it just gives that powerfull look. 2 might make it seem silly. but then again, I can't tell for sure until I see it. Automatically Appended Next Post: Nevermind! I just saw this picture you posted. I like it with both monster arms!

@ dsteingass- Thank you.
@ Henners91- I have a soft spot for the older stuff because that's what I started out with, and you never forget your "first". I admit that the newer models are amazing with detail and flexibility regarding conversions, etc... but I'll always think the "true" Plague Marines are the originals that came out back in the day.
@ RSJake- Wow, you actually looked at my GALLERY? I need to be more stealthy w/ posting pics before I update here. Thank you though.
Well, RSJake beat me to it, but yeah, that's where the Defiler is right now.
Here's a closeup:
WFB Giant playing the part of my Daemon, will be heavily converted by the time I am done, thinking about making it look like a GU1 or maybe just a really big Plaguebearer, not sure which yet.
It's really "messy" right now, that's going to change when I get home. Interesting hobby note- Gray Stuff hardens WAY faster than GS does! Like you'd better know exactly what you want and not fuss about with other stuff while using it.
Completely off topic, but if you do a Google Image search for Rogue Trader Plague Marines a huge number of my stuff I've posted here pops up! Who'da thunk it? I'm famous!
More coming soon, thanks for looking!

I like the close-up! I actually saw it posted in the ModelingVows for December thread.
I do the same thing though. i usually upload my pics in the morning before I leave the house, and then update threads at work. Sometimes there is a 2 to 3 hour gap between uploading and posting!
I would spend more imte in the Galleries, but I find it very difficult to navigate.
I find the same thing with Gray Stuff. I like that it cures faster, I hate grabbing something that isn't cured and I have to re-do what I just stuck my fingers in! But then again, I do VERY small bits on my models at a time. It takes longer, but it allows me to have 5 or 6 different projects going at the same time, and that allows me more room to deal with my 40K ADD.
Congrats on being famous!

@ inmygravenimage- Maybe he can go on the Nurgle Revivalist Roadshow
@ RSJake- Oh yeah. Forgot I posted that there first. Ha. Serves me right to be sharing my work in other threads before I post it on my own. And as you'll see below, I learned my lesson w/ Gray Stuff. I've developed a distinct respect for it and I'm going to have to practice more before using it in such large quantities (which is unfortunate because I bought it specifically for this project)
@ Llamahead- Thank you. I have a lot of respect for your conversions so knowing you are liking my work is a solid indication that I'm on the right track. About that Plaguebearer though... it didn't work out.
@ dsteingass- Hmm. I hope that's not in a "driving an axe through the door and peering through the hole w/ a completely psychotic gleam in my eye" sort of Jack Nicholson way.
@ Tortured-Robot- The "Double Mega-Smasher Arms" survived muster and are now a permanent part of the model. Not sure I like the pose, but wayyy too late for that now. And speaking of LOS... I can't wait to play against *named removed for sociopolitical reasons* and have him say "I can see the top portion of the left claw. I'm shooting at it with my entire army". Sometimes dynamically-posed models are not as cool as they look.
@ Hyenajoe- Your command is my... uh... command. See new pics below.
@ zadelistol- Dude I wish you were still around. Been thinking about you a lot since I started on this.
Ok! Time for another update! I've been busy on this, and it's the only project I'm focused on right now (aside from painting trim on Plague Marines that haven't joined the force yet while I'm waiting for something to dry). This is turning out to be quite the project and I don't think I was really aware of just how massive it would be.
I went back though this blog and found a few entries of when I first started to hint at this project:
2010/12/03 00:20:41 - And a teaser of things to come in the distant future- tonight I scored a total steal on eBay. I'm not going to say what it is because I'm going to do it completely behind the scenes and then present it in a comprehensive "step by step" photo log all at once. The only hint I'll offer is I'm crediting Bigdobbo for the inspiration. This one is going to take a while but once it is done it will be the most amazing piece in my army and possibly the most complicated conversion I'll ever do. Depends on how it goes.
That was over a YEAR ago! Man I drag my feet sometimes. But I nailed it when I said this would be one of the most amazing pieces in my army and very complicated conversion.
2010/12/08 23:51:38 - I mentioned a few updates ago that I was going to start a super top-secret OTT conversion that was going to take quite some time to do correctly. Well, the model the conversion is based on arrived today. I have mapped out what needs to be done, what I need to do it, and what I expect to have when I am finished. The good news is that I'm stocked up for this. I bought some more Gray Stuff last week, I have all the parts necessary to build the model, I have a clear image of what I want the end result to be, and I'm motivated to start working on it.
See? Bought the Gray Stuff specifically for this. Glad it doesn't have a short shelf-life!
2010/12/12 13:15:01 - In other news, I have some work done on my super top secret Project X. I will say that I was very unhappy when I really sat down and started to look at the base model. Previously I had taken a look at it to say "yup. it's what I bid on" and set it aside. I was finally starting to move the concept in my mind onto the miniature and see how much of it would transfer and what changes had to be made, what first steps would I need to take, etc. That's when it it became obvious that before I was going to get any work done on my vision I had to undo almost everything on the model. It had to have been glued by an unsupervised novice with no idea how basic modeling works and was convinced that 1 model = 1 full tube of polystyrene glue. I spend over an hour just cutting the model apart so I could repair and rebuild it to meet my standard and needs for the model I am going to make out of it. I actually got so sick of it that I gave up on everything and burned up a couple hours playing a video game just to readjust my head and not wind up hating this project.
Feh. There's a lot of work to be done on this. But in the end I expect it will be worth it.
Gaahhh! I remember what a mess this thing was when I got it. Another eBay rescue (I think I paid $10 for it or something ridiculous like that) but WYSINWYG sometimes. This for sure was not. Ugh. It's working out pretty well so far though. And yes, so far it has been worth it.
Ok, enough of the ancient copy / paste that makes my update look a lot more impressive than it really is... on to the new pics!
Significant changes, eh? I decided to go with a more GU1 look because I just could not imagine a Plaguebearer being THAT big. Sorry Llamahead. I did try it but it just wasn't working out for me. With a WS of 3 it would have made more sense (WS3??? It's a Daemonically possessed Uber-Dreadnought! It should be WS6!!! Curse you GW!)
The GS at the bottom of the model looks unfinished, and it is. I did a mock-up of the model again and you can't even see that part when it is all together so I didn't put much effort into that part. The intestines bursting from a massive incision was done specifically for Hyenajoe. See? Sometimes feedback DOES make a difference!
I wish I had done a better job w/ the stitches, but from 2 feet away it looks fine. This isn't being entered into any contests. In fact, let me take this moment to run my modeling skills into the ground and "boo hoo hoo" again- man, I suck at sculpting. I get away w/ slapping GS on vehicles because it's supposed to look icky and draped. But trying to take a blob of ... of... hey, what IS Green Stuff anyway?
So yeah, my modeling is fortunate happenstance at best. There are things that I've tried to do on purpose, like the creases on the left arm, that looks decent enough. And the intestines are at least a reasonable representation of what I'm going for. But overall what is working out is mostly due to fortunate accident. I have absolutely no idea at all what I'm doing.
That said, I'm pretty happy where things are and I have a good feeling about this project. I'm getting a lot done and it's turning out better than I could have hoped. It's still a Chaos project, I have an idea and it doesn't come out exactly as planned, it just goes where it wants. So far my Chaos Gifts have all been beneficial. Must be rolling well on the random generation table!
Here's some closer-up pics:
I think the guts turned out really good all things considered. The paint will define the success, but as it is right now it's obvious what they are supposed to be and it was worth the effort to try and make it happen.
The face looks goofy to me. Maybe it is the nose, or the sort-of-but-not-quite smile? I'm going to be filling that maw full of teeth and will likely sculpt some eyebrows downturned so it looks more angry. What I am going for it to make it look absolutely berserk insane. I can imagine the Daemon all happy and excited about being summoned into Realspace and ready to knock in some heads, then suddenly being bound by magicks and surgically fused to the mechanical frame. I imagine that would be enough to set anyone off really.
So yeah, it has to look way more OTT insane and angry.
Since I am trying to model it into a GU1, I figured I'd take a comparison shot and see how things were coming together.
I don't know why, but they seem to be cheesing it up for the camera, like they should be holding beers and yelling "WWWHHOOOO!! PAR---TAY!!!" or some other inane drunken fratboy catch-phrase.
I'll say right now that I don't like the GU1. It looks like a cartoon. But anyway, there's a side-by-side comparison. What do you think?
That's it for this one. C&C appreciated. I'll be back soon with more!
*edited because I didn't proofread before posting and apparently ignored the words with big red lines under them. Duh. *
