@ GD1- Done. Hope you enjoy them! (for people wondering what this inside conversation is about, check GD1's thread appx 1/3 down the page.
@ Tortured-Robot- Thank you for the compliment. The Nurglings really do add that whole "Nurgle" feeling I think, and honestly it made doing the base a lot easier and look a lot better than trying to figure out how to make the empty space look "good".

@ Tortured-Robot- Oddly enough, I have exactly 7 left. I wonder what I'll (Land Raider) do with them?
@ SelvaggioSaky- Thanks for checking this out and leaving a comment! I saw you checked out my Cultist blog as well. I really appreciate the interest and you can expect a lot more work coming from me!
@ spudkins- Thanks for stopping by and commenting! I checked the pics in your gallery, ace work! If you start a P&M blog let me know!
@ Samus_aran115- You rule. See below.
Ok. Lots to go through tonight. First up is a HUGE SUPER MASSIVE INCREDIBLE THANK YOU to GreyDeathOne for the swap we made about a week or so ago and I'm only now getting around to posting.
Quite some time back (almost a year ago now) GD1 posted a pic of a Huron Blackheart model he had done on commission and I really liked it:
Recently I bought a Huron model for myself w/ the intent of firing my old Red Corsair force back up. I sent a PM to GD1 asking what it would cost me to have him do a commission for me. At first he wanted $$$, but before I was able to schedule an appointment with my credit union for a loan he msg'd me back about a trade instead. I had some old (very old) Deathwing Terminators that were never going to be used for anything but paperweights and as soon as he saw them he was all over them. I boxed them up and sent them out, and a few days later I had this sitting on my bench:
YEESSS!!! I have THE Huron Blackheart that I loved so much when I first saw it! The very next game I played I made sure Huron was on the table:
Of course Huron and his loyal crew were victorious!
Thanks again GD1! You are quite awesome and I can barely express how very happy I am.
But wait, there's more!!!
Here's a HUGE SUPER MASSIVE INCREDIBLE THANK YOU to Samus_aran115!!! Recently Samus_aran115 sent me a PM saying it was time for the Death Guard to find a new home and was wondering if I'd be interested. My response was that I needed more Death Guard like a "gaping hole in my head" if I remember correctly... but we discussed the idea and before long a bargain was struck. Today I became to proud owner of 41 more Death Guard Plague Marines (the majority of which are the old 2nd Ed. plastics!!!) and a pile of new bitz, lots of which I don't have!!! Yay!!!
And here are the "Crown Jewels" of the swap: 2nd and 3rd Ed. Plague marines, and some wicked conversions of the current plastic range!
I'll be keeping the paint jobs intact on two squads (or mostly, will touch up a few things here and there to finish them up or to make them "mine") and will create two new squads for my Death Guard: Squad Samus and Squad Aran. The rest will likely see inconceivable horrors visited upon them as they are assimilated into the core of my existing Plague Marines. But don't expect that to happen anytime soon because I'm really behind in working on my outstanding projects as it is.
The main reason I do not have anything new to show for the Death Guard right now is because I've been putting an ENORMOUS effort into a project I started for my friend Daichallar. He is an Ork Warboss extraordinaire and recently had a birthday. I decided that rather than buy him something I was going to make him something. So I set out to build the most awesome Battle Wagon that I could.
It started out as this:
...and ended up looking like this:
...and yes, the glyphs on the front of the vehicle spell WAAAGH.
However, all is not celebration and joy over my achievement. Last night while working on some final touches (the riveted armor plates on the hood to be specific) I was using my pin vice w/ a 1/16th drill bit to drill a rivet hole that would act as a hinge. The plastic was pretty thick so I was really cranking on it. Suddenly the drill slipped off the plastic and buried itself into the tip of my left index finger. It hit me so hard the drill bit broke.
I didn't look at it at first. You know how that is, you know you just screwed up, you know something hurts... but you don't instantly look at it, hoping it's not as bad as it feels... I looked at it and all I could see was a tiny little 1/16th hole going into my finger. But it hurt a lot, and after a moment it started to bleed (and sadly, there was no need for blood on the Battle Wagon... what a waste). Then it occurred to me that above and beyond a puncture wound, the drill bit was covered in super glue, paint, plastic, GS, resin, etc and I hadn't had a tetanus shot since June '99, so I went to see the Painboy today to get checked out.
The end result was a tetanus shot (which was not the most fun part of my day) and a prescription for antibiotics (my finger is about 1.5 times the size it should be... meaning I have an infection) plus joy of joys, cherry on top of the cake, they want me to get an x-ray because they think I have debris lodged inside the meat of my finger.
Whee.
But it was worth it. I gave the Battlewagon to Daichallar earlier tonight and he was so so wicked psyched. He did however notice that it did not have a KillCannon on it... so yeah, I'm going to make one of those as well.
If you want to check out more pics of it (way more) then go to my Gallery and check out the Kustom Ork Battlewagon folder. It's pretty awesome all around I think. Lots of tiny details, magnatized weapons that have the magnets hidden so even w/o the weapons attached it still looks awesome... I am great. No, really. I'm pretty amazing. I really enjoyed this project and did a good job. I could have done a LOT more (a LOT LOT more) but I already had countless hours in it and with a project like this, how do you ever really finish? Where do you stop? When is it "done"? Answer- when you SAY it is done, and I did.
That's quite an update with no work on the Plague Marines to share. Ha. This weekend I'm going to be on a short vacation (remember last year?):
Doing the same thing this year, except it'll be a Holiday Inn, and yes I'm bringing something to paint. Likely not the Raptors, probably just a squad of Plague Marines (because I really need more rank & file troops!) and likely the Havoc Lascannon team. I hope that I have no time top paint at all, but if I do, I'll be ready. Better to have and not need than to need and not have.
That's it for this one. Thanks for reading, thanks for posting, thanks for sticking w/ this when it's slow, and just thanks all around. I'd be doing this anyway if I didn't know any of you, but I have to say that getting the attention / feedback I get is hugely motivating and I really do genuinely appreciate it. I've gotten to know quite a few of you (in that distant and marginal Internet way) and have developed some decent friendships here. I'm grateful for that opportunity and I'm looking forward to sharing more cool Dakka moments w/ you all.

Sweet scores from Samus and GD1!!! Lots of tasty bits and mini's in there. That ork hum-v is awesome. On my way to go check out the other pics, but from this thread alone, it looks really, really solid. Sorry to hear about your drill bit incident. Hopefully you have a full recovery and your finger stops growing in size. Take care and enjoy your little vacation. Looking forward to more and more updates.
Skalk, that Huron is sweet. As for your injury, sorry to hear about that, but you seem to have missed an opportunity to coat the battle wagon with some genuine blood red! Besides, you aren't trying hard enough unless you've drawn blood or at least superglued your fingers together at some point!
And you got what you deserved by a righteous MOD. What were you thinking? Defacing the Holy -=]_,=- logo? That blasphemy cannot go unpunished

yay! Glad you like them. That second marine with the third edition bolter and plague knife was one of my favorites.
Enjoy! Also, I found a plastic plague backpack lying around my table, and I figured I'd tell you about it. I can send it out in an envelope if you like.

Ahh - the joys of modelling - can't remember the countless times I've cut/stabbed or burnt myself. I've had some painful ones like melting my skin with paint stripper - but my favorite still has to be accidentally gluing my eye lashes together ....
I hope your finger recovers! That's a nice battle wagon- it'll look great filled with orks!! Its a shame your not taking your raptors, I am looking forward to them painted.
Has all the right ingredients - some pwetty colours, a big ol' supply drop, conversions, an orky v-hickle and of course, the all-important modelling injury
Hope the finger returns to normal size soon, modelling's a bitch with one extra-fat sausage finger.
Lovely job on the Battlewagon. Good luck with the finger I couldn't help but think it quite ironic that it didn't happen with a Nurgle model.......Seriously mate good luck with it.

@ Everyone- the finger is doign fine, infection is gone and I'm well on the mend. Should be back 100% in a couple days.
@ Moltar- I'm psyched the trades went well and I'm looking forward to digging into those Plague Marines as time allows. Also thanks for the compliment on the Ork Battle Wagon, I really enjoyed doing it.
@ monkeyh- I love that model, GD1 did a great job w/ it and I'm really psyched to have it. I tried to not cover the Battle Wagon with blood since it's not mine. That would be pretty icky.
@ dsteingass- Yes, you're right, and I learned my lesson.
@ Samus_aran115- I am very happy w/ the swap and I hope you are enjoying things on your end as well.
@ Tortured-Robot- "but my favorite still has to be accidentally gluing my eye lashes together .... " man I showed that to my wife and she rolled her eyes and said "you guys are all such nerds" and then laughed.
@ monkeytroll- Glad you liked the conversion. I'm really happy how it came out and I'm looking forward to facing off against it soon.
@ Llamahead- Thank you for the compliment, it was one of the most fun conversions I've done in a long time. It makes me really think about playing Orks again, but I'm not willing to invest the time or $$$ right now. I have way too many other things I'm working on.
@ spudkins- Thanks for the compliment, and I'm going to be making a KillKannon for it eventually.
I'm posting this on all of my active threads (Plague Marines, Cult, and Terrain). I'm not going to be posting any updates for a while. Nothing is wrong so no worries there, but I have some things that I need to manage and it is going to cut into some of my modeling time. That coupled with the fact that I'm really needing to take a modeling "break" has brought me to this. So rather than just disappear like I did last time I figured I'd at least offer an explanation up front so folks know that things are ok and also know that I'm not being lazy w/ updates, I'm simply not doing anything right now.
I will be back, hopefully sooner than later, but in case some time passes I have a specific request:
Please do not post on this thread until I update it next.
I do not want the thread to be locked by Mods and have to go the whole "please unlock my thread" thing w/ them. If you're digging on what I'm doing here, send me a PM. I expect I'll still be surfing Dakka when I'm at work now and then and will try to stay up w/ the threads I am actively following, I just won't be posting any new stuff here for a while.
And again, just to verify- nothing harsh or bad going on here, I just have some stuff that requires more attention than I have been giving them and I'm going to see a pretty genuine decrease in my modeling / online time at home. I will be back, and w/ any luck I'll have some new stuff to share.

@ GiraffeX- How about Death for the Death God? Doesn't sound very supportive. And the Huron model is far beyond my current ken, it was painted by GreyDeathOne (who sadly seems to have left Dakka)
@ Henners91- Sometimes the worst diseases are those that fester over time...
*brushes off thread*
First off, this isn't much of an update. it's more of a "hi, this thread isn't dead and is still a WIP". For the last few months I've been hammering away at terrain. Check out my Terrain Project- Building a Better Battlefield thread if you're interested. No, I have no shame whatsoever in promoting my own threads. I said here and in my in my Chaos Cultists thread that I knew 6th Edition was coming and that I was going to slack off both projects until I knew what I was working on was still going to have an application in the game.
Well, 6th Edition is finally here, and rumor is the new Chaos Codex is inbound next month. I'm enjoying the new rules, and so far I'm 1/1 for games. That's going to change for better or for worse tomorrow. I'm heading to Quarterstaff Games for my first 6th Ed Tourney. If you've been reading my threads for any amount of time you know I don't necessarily like tournaments. I'm going to this one because it's a good way to get more expose to the new rules, see how other people are interpreting rules that aren't clear, and to get some good ol' combat time in for my troops.
Because the new rules include Allies and my Battlebrothers are Chaos Daemons, I have a renewed interest in bringing my Daemons of Nurgle up to speed. First task is to get them on the right base. My GU1 is already finished. Here's my first step in converting over my Plaguebearers:
I also took my Daemon Prince of Nurgle from 2nd Ed and moved him to a regulation 40mm round base. Base isn't done by any means, it's just a start:
Last but not least, I re-flocked this Dreadnought as it is coming with me tomorrow (base isn't painted yet).
The Daemon Prince was going to as well, but I'm going to take a more Death Guard list and leave the Daemons home this time. However, that will not always be the case. In fact (and not hard to imagine) my interest in Daemons is evolving to the next step and I'm seriously considering a Daemons of Chaos army. I have enough models to do it without a problem. All I have to do is find the time to make it happen.
But that can wait. My next projects are specific to bringing my Death Guard up to 6th Edition. First I'm going to tear apart my Terminators and magnetize the arms. Then I'm going (FINALLY) start re-basing my army. However, this isn't my main project right now and isn't going to be again for a while. The Death Guard will be back in full force at some point, and updates will happen again in the near future, but they aren't going to get most of my attention. I'll have a better idea on what I'm doing with them (and my hobby time overall) once the new Codex drives my ambitions.
Thanks for reading, and thanks for keeping me subbed. I'll be back!

Good to see you back and knocking the dust off of this thread. Nice. I too have big plans for the new codex when it comes out next month. Also have big plans for integrating it with Chaos demons. Epiditimus etc are all waiting in the wings till they get the ok to start showing their faces in my PM thread.
Note. I am still in Yosemite on the job so i wont be posting pics for a month or so.
Glad to see you back Skalk.

Those plague bearers are a bit pesky. also skalk i just got a whole squad of 2nd ed metal chaos termis i think. might do somethin with them but i'm not sure yet. But i think you should give your DP some love and spruce him up a bit after being locked away in your musty garage? idk where you had him but if he was dusty it couldnt have been very pleasant! Hope to see more from you soon!

@ sennacherib- Hails, Plague Brother! I'm really excited about the Codex. Rumors abound that it will be out next month. I'm genuinely looking forward to it, but it's also with a bit of apprehension. I have a lot of hope riding on this, because this is where the magic happens for my army. Did they fix the 'one size fits all / 32 flavors of vanilla'? Are my Possessed still pointless? Am I really going to field 7 Bikes w/ the Mk of Nurgle? Only time will tell. And time appears to be sooner than later.
@ Wh40kPicasso- If you need to let those Terminators go I can think of a great home for them. PM me on that one if you'd like. As far as the DP goes, he'll be seeing a lot more love now. He can lead my Plague marines, and he can be Heavy Support for my (soon to come) Daemons. I thought about "fixing" it, but I painted it in January of '99 and I'm going to let it stand 'as is', only change is the base.
@ tipios- Thanks! I really enjoyed that project. Wish I had known a few things I know now, like sponge-painted rust, etc... but for what it is I think it came out pretty awesome.
Quick update that isn't really an 'update'... again nothing new as far as miniatures you've never seen from me, but I have started a project that I'm hoping will help my force be more flexible to meet the tactical challenges of 6th Ed.
I've started to magnetize my Terminators. It is a task for sure, because first I have to rip the arms off completed models and then drill them out by hand. But the results are decent. All I'm going to do w/ most of my Terminators is pull the left arm so I can swap out Power Fist w/ Power Weapon. Here's the first model finished:
And a cool aside... DYNAMIC POSES!
I have a lot of "behind the scenes" going on right now. I'm not 'back' per se, but I'm definitely moving Plague Marines around on my paint desk.
More coming, thanks for reading!

@ GreyTauKnight- I'll be back to my Plague Marines in September after the new Codex comes out. Even if it isn't my primary project it will be seeing a lot more love than it has been. At absolute minimum I'll be posting cleanup projects and minor updates, like this one.
@ Wh40kPicasso- I try to rotate them once every 7 months.
So, was following a gem of a find on eBay and won it this afternoon:
10 RT era Plaguebearers for $29 including S&H. I'm wicked happy and yes you'll be seeing them again pretty soon. They will look quite different. Muuahahha.
In other news, 6th Edition has been a lot more fun for my Death Guard. No, I haven't been playing those lame cheezefest lists that the Tourney players have been -whining- talking about. I'm simply playing straightforward 7 Death Guard per Rhino w/ Flamer or Melta SW and a Plague Champion w/ some sort of gear. Haven't pulled any Daemonic allies yet, likely will once we start playing larger games.
Still giving a LOT of thought to running a Daemon army, but it's on hold for now.
More will be coming. This project will never be finished and I'll keep updating it for as long as I'm among mortals.

That is a sexy, sexy find right there. If you like those older plaguebearers, I have several of the first-gen dudes just like that, I'd totally trade you one-for-one for either the most recent metals or the new plastics.

@ Feldenglas- Dude, if you think that was sexy, check this out.
Scored that just now. 36 Plaguebearers, 5 units of 7. I'll never have to buy another Plaguebearer again.
I have 41 of the (until recently) new metal Plaguebearers now. That's 2 massive blobs of 20. I picked these up because ktbb22 is going to run a Daemon army (yes, we have another 40K player for the group) w/ a mix of Khorne and Nurgle so it's up to her what we keep / trade / sell.
This should be a lot of fun. And added bonus- I'm going to start getting a LOT of games in. Looking forward to finding as many broken combinations as I possibly can and learned the rules well enough to take the 40K equivalent of a bar exam.
I used the phrase 'bar exam' on purpose. Yes, I want to become a Rules Lawyer and be able to quote page and paragraph like I could in 2nd Ed and Necromunda.
Muuahhhaa!!!! Muuahhahahhh!! MUUAHHAHHAHAA!!!!
