What are some movies that you consider to be the precurser to the 40kverse?

I consider Event Horizon to be part of it. It may sound weird but I think Akira would be a viable prequel to 40k as well because of the existence of psykers/psychics and how powerful/unstable they are if not trained properly.

Now it all makes sense.

Priest. It might not be a prequel, but the mega cities, with a its sun-blotting pollution and religious ruling class really feels like a city in 40k.

Ask yourself: have you rated a gallery image today?

Its all about the movie "The Mutant Chronicles" That film was channeling guardsman from the moment it started, plus all the tech looked extra WWI/Gothic and even the pilots looked like mordians!

The alien trilogy is quite obvious. I'd say starship troopers is close.

Dune, both the film and the book, are one of (if the The) primary inspirations for most of WH40k.

Yah I kept trying to remember this movie!!! It's most DEFINATELY how I'd imagine chaos showing itself to humans in deep space.

You know that Mutant Chronicles is based off of the same intellectual property as Warzone, which was a competitor to 40k during the late 90's, right?

I like that so many of the movies listed here came about after 40K had already been started up.

I would say, aside from Aliens, that most of the source materialprecursors for 40K did not come from movies, but instead books. Dune, Starship Troopers, anything written by Michael Moorcock or Poul Anderson.....

I thought it meant more as in like what movie worlds could be a prequel to how the 40k universe would come about. That being said my aliens trilogy reference still fits your criteria ;p

Our world is the precurser to 40k, we don't need a movie version of Earth.

Most 40k maps are offset to make room for the Eye of Terror. Hence, Earth appears to be much closer to the galactic core than it really is. (edit: Oops, nevermind)

And back on topic, Lars Von Trier's Antichrist. Really.

Between stomach-churning gore and Von Trier's trademark displays of visual pedantry, the notion that nature itself is governed by forces not just amoral but downright evil slips in. And that notion certainly rings a bell.

Well the arguement can be made for any near future work of science fiction. Event horizion is always the go to for per history 40k, shame that its a terrible movie. I would say stargate franchise comes pretty close (necrony type guys, the ancients and Asgardians are somewhat reminiscent of the old ones the stargates themselves are a sort of webway).

I don't make the rules, I just think them up and write them down.

Starship Troopers, maybe Universal Soldier.

Event Horizon isn't a bad choice either.

Not Alien.

Besides the face, predator seemed very eldar/dark eldar to me.

Alien is a decent footnote

and event horizon is a great one for warp travel

Well movie-wise they won.
