What's your all time favorite unit? What unit makes it into every list you make, regardless of the point value, mission, strategy, etc? It can be any army and use any force organizational slot. For example:

Every GK List I make always includes 2 TL Autocannon Psybolt Dreads, all day err day

I like my Grey Knights list's Interceptor Squad, actually; they have just as much stopping power as the rest of my army, but they're fast and versatile enough on their own (with no transport, no less) to get to grips with the enemy before getting shot to bits.

Failing that it's my Dark Angels list's Ravenwing Land Speeder Typhoons, for being horribly fast and long-ranged at the same time, allowing them to do almost anything in any list.

Balanced Game: Noun. A game in which all options and choices are worth using.

The Venom.

Costs near twice as much as a Rhino, less survivable in just every set of circumstances, can't move any faster if you're dropping off units, can't transport as much and the default kit looks silly.

But I'll be damned if you can make a competitive Dark Eldar list without at least one.

Yes, yes, a billion times yes.

In fact, he's the reason a tactic similar to Jihadin's failed. I was against tau, and he had flanked some 30 odd kroot, as well as a shaper and a kroothound. Demo charge into the pack of them, killing all but the shaper and a couple hounds. They charge (Marbo was in cover) and they killed each other in close combat.

For me it used to be my Interogator Chaplain in terminator armor. He is just such a hulking slab of beatface awesomesauce. And he looks cool to boot.

Now, however, it has been my Deathwing. In every Dark Angels list I have made I always include at least one unit of these guys. Throw in a banner, apothecary, and add a cyclone missile launcher and deep strike the pain anywhere you want on the table. I have always loved the Deathwing in every dimension of thinking and feel that they are basically 5 of the finest terminators in the universe getting together to cleanse the alien/heretical scum. Not to mention that they have always been a pretty decent unit in all regards (especially now... and with the interrogator chaplain leading them).

For my Dark Eldar, it's the Razorwing Jet Fighter. Not only does it have 2 dark lances and twin linked rifles automatically but you have monosythe missles OR Neuotoxin...hit on 3s and wounds on 2s. Plus, it's a huge distraction that ends up eating up at least a round of shooting from my opponent, giving my fragile troops another turn of movement

I've played guard across three editions and two codices, and there are three units that, no matter how many times they get cut, they always wind up coming back and spending awhile in my lists again.

Company Command Squad: Sure, these used to be an involuntary pick, but now that they're not, they're still easily the best unit in the guard codex. Some shooting power, some CC power, the ability to take warlord traits, and the ability to buff nearby units. A consummate HQ choice if ever there was one.

Ministorum priests: Obviously I was big on these in choppy 5th ed, but I field at least one of these in almost every game. Sure, they only really shine maybe in in 6 games I play with them, but when a crazy old man with a 10-foot-long-chainsaw-sword chops a land raider in half, all while making everybody around him so angry that their close combat attacks become twin-linked.

Damn.

Stormtroopers: They deliver point-blank melta anywhere on the board, and can contest objectives. They're probably the most strategic unit in the codex, not only for their ability to react to things as they develop, but they are also possibly the most disruptive unit in the codex - forcing your opponent to change their plans.

I don't think I've ever had anything particularly spectacular happen with them, but they have always been a really solid choice. Plus, back in the day they only cost 10 points apiece, and a 70 point 2x melta suicide squad was dead sexy.

Honorable mentions also go to the basilisk, which has managed at least a couple of games every edition, and the leman russ exterminator since it was added to the codex.

Space marines: 3 predators. 1 with lascannon sponsons and 2 with extra armor, all with auto cannons. I love autocannons. When accompanied with 3 double autocannon dreadnoughts=18 strength 7 AP 4 shots.

Orks: Nobz. I have 33 Nobz and 2 painboyz, 10 bikers, 15 foot, 8 MANZ. You can do anything with them, and can be troops.

Conduct While Gaming
While rolling a die, do not say, “Anything but a 1!” unless you wish the die to come up as 1. Any other such attempts to anger the “Dice Gods” will result in the existential equivalent of continuously flipping a coin and having it come up heads every time (for reference, see Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead). Your dice will be cursed to roll ones for everything other than morale checks, which will come up sixes.

ORK PLAYERS HAVE A LIMIT OF 1 SCREAMS OF WAAAAAAGH PER HOUR. violators will be forced to play tau.

Players with chimeras and las weapons shall pronounce chimera ki-mere-uh, not chim-ere-uh. Violators will be forced to play nothing but world eaters. Non-40k personnel must purchase and build a chimera.

My favorite Marbo quote would have to be one on 1d4 chan I read, where it was describing how IG worked. When it got to Marbo it said "You don't know it yet, but he's in your list. He's Rambo, in 40k. Do we even need to justify that?"

At our club, he's considered mandatory. All the IG players are waiting for the day they get to have a "Battle of the Marbos" and see which marbo is truly the most badass

Bring IG allies.

MOTHERFETHIN STRAKEN-CCS: x3 melta, Regimental standard (Because awesome), krak grenades, x2 body guards. Don't forget to throw in crazy ol' man jeevus the priest with his 10 foot long chainsaw sword that cuts through landraiders.

MANDATORY TROOP: HARKER, x3 plasma vets, lascannon, demolitions (because everything must die)

MANDATORY MARBO SLOT: MARBO

And then for fast attack and heavy support, I dunno, just take a Catachan chucking rockets or something as a manticore, and a Leman russ with wings for a vendetta.

MANLY ALLY FORCE GO!
