I haven't so much as read the new rulebook but I've been wanting to start a Dark Mechanicus army for some time - the new Warpsmith model has given me the push to get started.
But, eighteen quid for a Finecast model? that for a game of soldiers.

So I set to work with some bits, the always-incredible Chaos Vehicle Sprue and a whole bunch of guitar wire.

Still plenty to be done. I'll get a shot of his skirt later on and I'm deliberating over his arms. I'm pretty sure instead of the usual cog-axe he'll be armed with a Sentinel chainsaw arm and I'm open to opinions for the other arm.
Feedback appreciated.

Nice work! (although technically the guitar wire isnt plastic ). Nice use of parts, I always found those back pieces really irritating

For the arms, I'm using Anvil Industry's nice range of bionics

Ha - nice one Praxiss!

@Charax - I think bionics is the way to go. I was going to try the maxmini ones but those Anvil ones look aces too, can you recommend them?
In fairness there will most likely be liberal use of bionics across the army - my brainstorm for Mutilators so far is just gibbering masses of mechandendrites.

Well, updates once I've got some arms on him I guess.
So far the build cost is nothing - he's entirely made from my bits box so I'm dead chuffed about that.

The medium category for Anvil works perfect for marines and the larger ones are ideal for terminator sized models. Great bits to work with.

You say that I am crazy. I say that you are right!

Oh I can certainly recommend them, I have a set of the medium (space marine) and Large (Terminator) ones, although my Large ones are a previous version, and the newer ones are even better. Great detail, good range of posing. If you're doing a heavily bionic army I'd recommend you buy a bunch

Right, here we go with this evening's updates. In preparation for Skyfall I've spent the night in my pants watching Casino Royale & QoS whilst figuring this guy out. Here's the results.

So the chainsaw arm worked pretty nicely I reckon. I don't think there's any need for further tentacles now :-)

Opinions?

Loving this model but I'm sorry I just don't like the Chainsaw arm! >.< Maybe if it was given more of an angle or direction change? Right now it just looks a bit flat up and down choppy, if ya get what I mean! lol From what you said before I was picturing it atop a staff as opposed to an arm replacement!

Very nice, except for the arm, it does look a little bit out of place.

Okay, so thanks for the feedback! In regards to the chainsaw arm - do we think it would be better on a staff? I await your opinions.

I really need to start my Nurgle Army WIP blog... I have been dreaming about a Dark Mechanicus for years. Stuck a Techmarine backpack on an old RT SM mkII model that I nurgle-ized with GS giving him a bloated belly... now what do I do with the '90's era Servitors that I was going to have accompany him?

Ok, here is the link to the new CSM blog http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/482833.page

Maybe use an arm I mean he's gotta be able to actually work on machines with digits sometimes!

Okay so based on some feedback I've lost the chainsaw arm and given him a chain-halberd and two arms.
Neither arm is particularly dynamic, but the dynamism comes from the mechatendrils so I'm happy.

So, next step - painting!

Exergy I actually found your model before I started with mine. Really great stuff. I've finally gotten round to finishing the paintjob - I took no PIP photos as it was really hard to actually translate my vision onto the model.

I finally achieved what I think is a passable paint job, but taking photos with an Android tablet will not do. Please excuse the poor photography and enjoy the photos.

A little red to show the Mars roots I think. The plan for the army as a whole is to be very brassy. Not steampunk in any direct way, just an army of brassy dudes.
Next step is buying a Defiler and a Forgefiend.
