What build for these guys would you take and why? As an IG player I can see them with double melta and a plasma pistol for the champ to DS and pop backline tanks (kinda like storm troopers). Yay? Nay? Whats your take on them?

Raptors can be made to fit either anti tank or anti infantry roles. It really depends on what the rest of your looks like, how many points you are willing to spend, and if you plan on having a Lord/Sorcerer with Jump Pack accompany them. For anti tank I would keep them cheap. 2x melta, pf on the champ and melta bombs. Anti infantry, 2x Flamers, pw on the champ, votlw. Marks are role dependant. I'd go nurgle for anti tank and a case can be made for khorne or slannesh for anti infantry.

If you are going for cheap/anti tank and have melta bombs, is the power fist really worth it?

If I'm going to run them, it's in a squad that's at least 10+, has attached jump lord or icon of vengance, and any mark except tzeentch works.

the problem with raptors is that they are overcosted by 1-2 points and 3-4 points with VotlW. Compared to bikes, both with VotlW, raptors are only 2 points less than bikes but offer so much less.

I would say go with bikes, unless you REALLY like the models like me. In which case model ruined bikes with raptors flying over them with a mechanical combi bolter coming out of the jump pack.

Whoops! That's suppose to say pw lol. Though I've had plenty of games where 2 melta guns and melta bombs didn't drop a vehicle. With hull points alone that won't drop a land raider so a pf may be worth the points just finish it off. Though you'll likely lose your champ in a challenge, if the other guy has a pw.

Keep them cheap and deadly. 5 guys with 2 melta guns or 5 guys with 2 flamers. I don't see the benefit of running anything larger and even then, Bikes do everything these guys do but better... except jump over stuff.

Take 5 raptors, 2 meltaguns, and a meltabomb..Deepstrike them down as close to the most badass tank you see and pop the hell out of it!!

I do it all the time, but with termicides.. but this is a far cheaper alternative really.

I'm finding it hard to justify raptors at all when a bike, with T5 and a jink save, is only 3 points more per model.

They even have all the same options, unless you want a unit of 11+ models. Raptors don't bring anything that bikes don't bring, except fear which isn't that useful, and deepstrike which doesn't get you there any faster than turboboosting.

Too bad too because I really like raptors, and I have a bunch of models for them.

For even more of a Anti-tank punch is it possible to give the Raptor Champion a combi melta from the ranged wargear list? I am not aware if bolt pistols can be used as combi weapons.

he can replace either his pistol or his ccw with a combi bolter or a combi melta. in either case he is going from 3 attacks to 2 attacks but he can do it.

I am still breaking down the bikes. Going to have a variety of mainly dif SM bikes but some ork warbikes, and eldar DE jetbikes thrown in for flavor

That sounds sick! But what would you think of flamers and mark of slaanesh + icon of excess for good assault range capability as an anti-infantry unit?

I think 3-5 bikes with flamers are ok anti infantry, but when it comes to icon of excess you are going to want a lot of models, 8-10. At that point you have 6-8 combi bolters. At that point I want something I am going to get use of those bolters of and the special weapons which means plasma. Also the FNP helps stop the plasma from killing the bikes.
