So what is the earliest a unit can attempt to use Hit and Run?

Any chance to use it before blows are struck? How about before combat resolution?

If it happens after combat resolution then a unit with Hit and Run that loses combat and fails leadership would be subject to Sweeping Advance? When does the Sweeping Advance immunity mentioned in the rule come into play?

Thanks!

It happens at the end of the Assault phase, which would be after combat resolution. Normally, when you fall back from close combat, the enemy attempts to sweep, however, if you use Hit & Run, they don't get to.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Hit and run is used at the end of the combat turn for that group. You have to still be locked in combat to use it. If you loose get swept theres no hit and run before it.

so to be clear-
unit with hit and run gets assaulted, loses combat, makes a morale test and fails then falls back. that unit is then subject to sweeping advance and all the normal falling back rules.

the only time in which hit and run actually works to break combat is when they either win in combat or do not fail morale, correct?

The only time hit & run is allowed is when combat is a draw or the losing side passes its Morale check.

Basically if your still in combat at the end of the assault phase you can hit and run.

I think the only reason it says no sweeping advance moves are made under the hit and run rule is to clarify that when a unit does hit and run, you are not able to pursue them.
