Unhealthy Competition With Other Legions

Space wolves are probably the most all-rounder of all the armies. You can pretty much chuck anything in a list and it will work. A few pointers, Grey Hunters are your best friend (best troop in the game by most peoples opinion), everyone and their sons seem to use 3 squads of long fangs with ML (People have gotten so used to it they no longer complain!), and rune priests are the best all-comers for most lists as an HQ (Though I prefer beat sticking it with a WL on TW).
And to answer yes you can if you take Canis Wolfborn, he makes fenrisian wolves troops. So you can take him, 3 squads of TWC and maybe an extra WL or WGBL on TW for boosted power, then take up to 6 squads of fenrisian wolves. However this list has no way of scoring as the FW can never score, so its pretty much table your oppoenent or lose. This isn't a bad thing if you love having fun though!

Rune priests are psykers/anti psykers, arguably the best psy def in the game right now.
Lord on Thunderwolf is a beat stick and is expensive, you'll also probably want to run a squad of Thunderwolf Calv with him

It means it's very durable and can take a lot of hits, while still dealing out good damage.

I have not used terminators very often in my space wolves...if I remember right they cost a little more than a reg sm terminator. TWC I am in love with. Wolf lord on TW I am in love with. If you want a cool terminator check out the lone wolf with term armor, storm shield, and a chain fist. Happy times!

"good" is a very vague term. It could mean many different things. You might want to think a little more about the question and articulate it in a way that there is something there to actually answer.
In response to you question: They are all good.

I'm saying good is a subjective term.
If you want a close combat oriented cavalry, then TWC are what you're looking for. If you want a points efficient combat squad then I wouldn't look at space wolves. They're a very shooting oriented army. The close combat options (WG Terminators and TWC) are grossly over priced for what you get.

TWC arent really that overcosted. 2 wounds T5 S5 rending, pretty gross tbh, in comparison to a terminator.
The lord can get pricey though, however it generally takes my opponents entire shooting phase to kill him/make a dent in him.
Give him a 2+3++ Eternal Warrior, put his 2 fen wolves behind. Along with a squad of TWC.
I normaly wind up in assault turn 2 with a wounded unit that still mows through almost everything.
The general army does seem more shooty oriented which is good for 6th ed.

The only way I've had TWC work is by using drop pod assault. Enough Grey Hunters in your opponents face on turn one will make them ignore the TWC long enough to get them in CC. I just feel that for a decent sized unit you're paying more than a full sized GH unit with all the upgrades.
I want to like TWC, the models are amazing, they're just...not that good.

By "legit wolves" I assume you mean TWC.
It's apples and oranges, TWC and Lone Wolves fill completely different roles. Again, you're using the word "good". You need to specify what you want the unit to do.

They don't dent squads, just not enough attacks. I kit mine out in a pretty standard fashion:
Terminator armour, SS and Chainfist (or thunder hammer) and run it at a big scary thing. It eats MCs very well, and can challenge out an enemy IC and bash him up. With the chain fist it can also threaten tanks. Don't expect wonders from them, but they a good at drawing a decent amount of fire for the low points cost and then beating up something tough. If you charge into a big squad they'll do very little, and probably just die.
If you want to kill large squads of things, grey hunters are your best bet. Bolter fire can cut through most horde based armies, and throw in some plasma guns to deal with MEQ.

I guess, but as with all armies you need more than 1 way to deal with something. The LW could run towards a dakka HT and just be shot down by massed fire. I've killed one with lasguns who was looking at one of my tanks rather menacingly. To me they're more of a "oh hey cool, I have about 100pts left over, a LW would be a great way to spend that!"

I agree... Space Wolves are not a very shooty army.
Your 'standard' troop choice are Grey Hunters and they cannot take heavy weapons. The only way to take heavy weapons is on Long Fangs, any while they are good, they are also a fire magnet, and not at all mobile. You can give them a Razorback but moving will cost you a turn of shooting. Grey Hunters are good and getting in the enemies faces especially with Drop Pods, the only ranged weapon they can take that will really threaten armour is a meltagun and even then you really need to be within 6 inches.
Basically if you want your Space Wolves to be 'good' you need to get them in close. Rapid firing boltguns and then counter-charging (with overwatch) is pretty frickn awesome. Equip all your units Drop Pods.
I have not yet used TWC so i cannot really comment on them

Im not saying dont use wolves, im saying that you should use Grey Hunters for the bulk or core of your army.
The TWC would compliment the GH in pods quite well but you should not rely on the TWC to win everything for you. They should support your army, not be the army
