Thanks guys! Gonna try to keep working on it though I doubt I get the board done before battle systems shows up .

Is okay, when you take time the models work out awesome!

I was thinking factory but since I'm moving towards more minimalist with fewer permanent structures on the floor...prison may work too

It's big enough for deadzone, but is part of a 4x4' board. In addition to 7 tiles worth of roads, I'm gonna build two small outbuildings (probably an office and either a storage building or similar), a mystery tile, and two times with just one side of similarly large walls so it can be expanded a bit. Or suggest another large building across the street.

Will have 6 extra tiles too that I'll look at filling eventually.

So what color for the bricks? Classic red? Medium-dark grey? Tan? I want the wasteland bits to be a dreary grey green tan thing like fallout3, and the roads will be black faded to grey. Light grey sidewalks.

Feels like grey brick might blend and may just be too much. Red will stick out, tan a bit of both. Red would be the most obnoxious to paint but I'll do it for superior end product. Thoughts?

So did you glue that structure together prior to painting so it's a bit permanent, or is it in easy to bread down chunks, or what?

That's always the biggest hassle with the battlezone stuff in my opinion, is the building and tearing down of structures.

Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!

Just built. Bottom is hotglued to the tiles. It's sturdy enough I don't feel the need to glue the clips, but I don't plan on dismantling it .

Grey bricks, but weather them with a dusting at ground level.

The base colors for the roads and ground will likely end up like this test piece. So grey similar to the sidewalk but nastily weathered?

Oh I like the idea of a "Fallout" weathering kind of touch. so the dirty grey-tan would work along with some slight greenish touch, like moss or rad-lichen scouring the walls for the delicious rads.

Think this is the end game for the road tiles. Technically too many lines in the street, the middle one shouldn't be there if you check scale and regulations...but this lasses the 3foot test better IMO.

Nicely done.

Oddly enough, I downloaded the regs for street markings some time last year when I was testing out some ideas for roadways. IIRC, the ratio is 1:3 for segment length to gap length. But for terrain, Rule of Cool over rules regulations

Cars look to be the right scale too. Dollar Store purchases?

Go "red" for the bricks, but use something like a burnt cadmium red as the base, then weather them up and down with tans and browns to desaturate them. Also, wipe-on an appropriate colour for the mortar, then wipe-off while wet, leaving it only in between the bricks, and dulling down the surface of the bricks further. Then a light wash so the mortar and bricks are uneven, and you're golden!

Thanks for the input guys

Yeah the bit I read said 10 ft 30ft gap 10 ft. I was making some city bases for my corporation marines years ago at the start of the blog and wanted semi accurate road markings. Doesn't look quite right though.

The cars came from a dollar general for $4 a pop, diecast and plastic with no pull and go action like the 6 dollar kind. Report themselves as 1/43 scale so probably a touch large but without bases cars need s slight boost anyway.

Azazelx, I'll have to try a test piece like that. Gonna have to do something reasonably simple or I won't be able to replicate it in the books and crannies.

Impressive work on the board and road tiles, I am just too lazy and cack handed to manage such a project. What is the projected time frame on your new Battle Systems stuff arriving?

People have already gotten their BS stuff, the US orders are supposed to be in the states ready for distribution but it could be a little while yet if I were on the bottom of the list etc. Soon. Week or two. will have to try to keep working on factory after bs has shown up.

It's actually pretty simple and easy to do. For the lowest parts of the walls (ie, next to the ground) hit them with some weathering powders, and do the same in the corners - it'll cover up any dodgy work in there. For bulk, cheap weathering powders, I recommend this stuff from art supplies:

http://www.dickblick.com/products/gamblin-artists-colors-dry-pigments/

You get a huge amount for under $10. Black and Burnt Umber, then mix up as needed for variance.

Boom instant 4*4 city, just add buildings

Gonna have to weight these down for a bit to smooth out the creases gained in shipping.

Just one photo of the build of the first quarter (in progress). Haven't had much time to ghrow at this but there is great potential. So far so good. Gonna do one quarter with just the contents of city block pledge plus addons to see what that looks like, then I'm gonna open up my addons like the police precinct and art deco pack and just build whatever. I have a fiendish plot to incorporate some of the sci-fi set floors as well...floors for more industrial buildings. The ceiling/floor tiles are kind of precious because they take up so much space so you dont get a lot but you need them to build up.

Anyway wip:

Yeah I went as heavy on this as anything. Well not as much as DZ1, not even close, but a fair bit yeah. I probably still have more invested in battlezones but it isn't a huge gap.

So far I'm happy with everything. The mats need some TLC to be fully flat but they are way sharper than my dz mats. Very vibrant colors too. Cardboard seems fine and so far I haven't had to do much hobby knife adjustments to get bits to go together as the sci-fi set but I'm just getting started.

Supposedly they intended for you to leave the backs of the buildings wall-less so I just gained 25% more walls in a way.
