Probably work

Odd question, I know, but how small can a tournament get before it's not really a tournament still? I think I went to a FLGS one with only 5 people at it once, but has anyone seen less?

Assume all my mathhammer comes from here: https://github.com/daed/mathhammer

when I got into the game our flgs only had 4-8 people for tournaments.

Starting going to a different shop about 30 miles away for more competition. He gets 14-18people monthly.

Smallest one I've been to was 5 people, and covered my first three games of 5th edition. After getting thoroughly and soundly cheated by two of my three opponents, which I discovered as I read the rulebook and Tyranid codex over a glass of Oban later that night, I decided I was never playing another game in that store.

Haven't been back since.

4 people, 500 pts, 3 x 3 table.

That was a TIIINY tournament.

Awesome though. It's disturbing just how many walkers plus a KFF you can get into 500 pts with Orks, and back in 5th they rocked the house

The Viletide: Daemons of Nurgle/Deathguard: 7400 pts
Disclples of the Dragon - Ad Mech - about 2000 pts
GSC - about 2000 Pts
Rhulic Mercs - um...many...
Circle Oroboros - 300 Pts or so
Menoth - 300+ pts

That too, but i have a fondness for ork Walkers.

Even in the not-too-heady days of 6th, with weaker KFF and easier to kill Kanz, i still run them from time to time

A planned tournament in our area had only 1 person attend. He went on to take 1st place and win 1500 yuan. The organizer had not taken into account his tournament was held on a players wedding day and most of us were there getting drunk instead of playing 40k.

I ran a tournament day in 2010 for a bunch of war and card games.
Player numbers for each game was between 8 and 20 depending on the game.

For the Pokemon game only one person showed up.
Seeing that all the local players had stated they where coming to the tournament I had bought enough prize support for the top 6 places and two booster packs for the 10 under that. The local player base was 12 so I felt that was enough to have ready and had an arrangement to get more on the day if more players showed up.

I gave the one pokemon player who was there the prize support for 1st, 2nd and 3rd player and the of the packs went into a box in the loft.

Good? Bad? I'm the guy with the gun . . .

I hosted two tournaments in the past two weeks which had 10 people out or 12 slots promising to play. Only 6 players turned up to each. There's not much a TO can do about lack of interest/attendance in the area unless people are willing to travel.

4 people, and this has happened a few times.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!

I showed up at a local tournament and was the only one to show. So, the TO's son and I played a game and split prizes down the middle. I ended up playing 5 games that day, including a great game with a buddy that played in a tournament across town.
