Hello Dakka. I've been lurking here since I started playing 40k (about half a year now, give or take) and I figured it was time to join the community. I've gotten a good vibe from the forums I've been in relating to 40k, even YMDC. Looking forward to enjoying my time here.

I got into the hobby, as I said, earlier this year as a result of badgering from my cousin. I was initially reluctant to start as I'm well aware of the very high price tag of entry (and it still remains my biggest barrier) but I gave in and offered to take his Tau battleforce that he had gotten for someone else who no longer wanted it, as it seemed their playstyle and overall story fit what I look for when I play fantasy-based games. I was hooked almost immediately as the games themselves are very fun and the building and painting I find relaxing, even though I'm not very good at it. I'm sure that'll improve in time naturally as well as with a little help from the modeling forums.

Anyway, I'll still probably be lurking a lot but am eager to become a part of the community.

Welcome to Dakka and the Hobby - Tau are great fun.

Cost is a big barrier - but you *can* do it cheaply.
I have 3000 points of Tau currently, and I've only spent around £100 (US$160).
Buying second hand / ebay / swapshop /etc is easy enough.
You just need to invest in something like Dettol / Fairy Power Spray ( I think you guys in the US have Simple Green? ) to strip paint off and be prepared to make a few repairs.
