Forgive me if this has been brought up but I have found the old Gangs of Mega City One box set for Judge Dredd on Troll and Toad for a measly $1.29! And they have over 300 units in stock

Is this a legitimate product? I mean you get 12 miniatures in it scaled at 28/30mm (assuming I'm looking at the right set) for such a low price that even if they're crap quality, its still a shocking deal. Anyone bought this to confirm or deny? I could easily throw in some pocket cash for a few sets but I want to be sure

Mega City One is a old dead line, but the model are about the right size for Judge Dredd.

Yes. It's a hard plastic resistant to plastic cements.
It's as brittle as resin, and whilst it could technically hold as much detail, these aren't that detailed.

They are, however, cheap as, and if you want to play the new JD game, the scale is the same.

Thank you for that pic, pretre.

Does anyone happen to have any better pics? I'm thinking cultists, too, but would rather know before I plop any cash down.

Thanks.

I had a box of those, and man, I hated them.

basic Testors glue would not hold. I roughed up the connection points and used super glue eventually.

Hard, rigid plastic.. no give. I dropped one on the kitchen floor and it broke. (test drop, on purpose).

It did not break at a glue joint,, it broke in the middle of the legs, and arm.

I ended up trading them off (one whole boxworth) for a single Reaper Warlord fig..

I would not recommend them, myself.

Ah. A man with personal experience with them.

What about quality of sculpt, though?
I'm not too concerned about breakage (at this price), and have had success with assembling that type of plastics... I'm just looking for cheap cultists that don't look like $#!%.

It's Legit,
Troll and Toad occasionally has some rediculously good deals on oop wargames. They reccently bumped CAV1 (A great mech combat game) and it's two Journals of Recognition (like BT tech readouts) down to less than a one buck each!

They are .... okay. Detail is a bit soft, and there is a lot of smoothness to the limbs.

They will certainly add to unit variety, if you intermix with other manufacturers, but if you try to make a single unit of them, it will definitely look odd next to other manufacturers.

I recently got 4 boxes, which will end up being rioters. Even with shipping you can't beat the price, and for hordes of faceless rioters (or similar projects) they are detailed enough. I'm going to add some modern weapons from Hasslefree to some of them.

One note, this is the gang box, not the boxed game that has the rules and some card terrain as well as some of these figures.

More then likely it is legit.

These were the most horrid sculpts ever, and I don't say that lightly.

Those gangers were craptastic and one of those things that Mongoose and most of us wish were never born.

Honestly? Don't even give them a second look. Those guys were horrid and you can do a lot better from out in the interwebbings from such compnaies as cobblestone, Reaper, and the newer ones that they have. FRG has a bunch of the newer ones on sales most of the time.

The scale is.... questionable. they are MUCH smaller then 1/28 and they are as thin as thin with a lot of miscastings and need of fill.

they do not look very well next to EM4 figures.

On the whole, though, you can't beat that price.

Good luck with them, YMMV.

Thanks for the honest reviews folks.

At that price, it seems like it would be worthwhile to get them just for the heads, weapons and other conversion bits.

What weapons does the sprue come with?

I found a pic of the sprue - the kit comes with 2 I think- here on dakka, but it doesn't show very clearly.

I have 20 boxes of them.

They are really gakky models.
They are totally worth ten cents apiece, however.

Since their weapons are separate, I am using them as civilians.

So they are perfect for their purpose - not well detailed and no one gives them a second look. Quick paint job and a dip and they look just fine. Great for getting in the way - mob of civilians moves in a random direction. Any hit kills one.

Sure, and they're so damn cheap that even if they suck you can, like Kid_Kyoto has done, throw them away if they're not good.

They may actually be compatible with Mantic's zombies; I'll have to check. That'd be a quick easy sci-fi zombie horde right there.

As it stands I'm happy with my 240 civilians. Troll and Toad still have 58 boxes in their inventory and I'm seriously considering buying another 20 sets.

Aye, I'll vouch for the size.

As an added thought, you could even mix and match the pieces, aside from the necks, on the gangers, the parts are pretty much the same size.

The heads on the gangers have the necks attached, kind of like the swap head system that west winds has for thier WW2 Berlin or Bust line.

Greenstuff is a good recommend for this, and in hindsight, YOUR ideas to use them as additional zombies is about the best one I've heard yet.

They come in either sheets of sprues, or you can more then likely find them half heartedly thrown together. Wont take much to snip limbs off and add them in there.

I used Zap a Gap on mine, so it probibly won't be a suprise to say that Zombies are a GO.

Good idea, fella's. Thanks for that.

Actually now that I think about it I will do the Mantic/Sci Fi zombie crossover on a hundred or so of 'em; it'll be great for running Judge Dredd scenarios for Necropolis or the Dark Judges.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Grot 6 did you check Mantic or Wargames Factory compatibility? Both are probably the same size. If the Gangers are compatible with Mantic and Wargames Factory (including the new zombie vixens) that opens up a whole new range of possibilities

I don't have them on hand, right now, but will pull them out when I get back to the house and post some picks.

I think I'm still the only one that still has his copy of Gangs of Mega City one. I'm vouching for the zombies/ size of the figs though. They were really close to the same size. close enough that they should fit, and if not, will flesh out with some greenstuff/ filler putty.

I'll put a few together and post some picks later next week or so, because the idea is that interesting.

As an added thought- FRP Games has a gak load of figures for Judge Dredd in the sales bin.

For a couple of bucks? Its not about the money.

These guys are some gak figures. Point blank. The issue is that the plastic that they are made out of is... how do you say it... does not honestly fit well together-connect- hold to glue very well. And the figures themselves are butt ugly.

For example- One guys head, I have to say has the look on his face like he is crapping his pants, yet another looks like he belongs in a sideshow, and in general for all of them- these guys are just honestly really bad.

28mm in the classic sense, as well. The metal figures from the Judge Dredd line are bigger then they are.

That picture shown is exactly what they look like.
