hello dakka,

I was curious as to how many codex books folks own (hard copy, internet copy, whatever). I imagine serious tournament players probably have all of them, but I'm wondering how many the rest of us mortals tend to collect. for me, I have the C:SM (which I have an army for, but have yet to play) and the CSM codex (which I will be collecting an army for shortly). I've thought about picking up others, like orks and eldar, despite having no intent to play those armies. how about the rest of you?

I have most of the codex books for the major armies....too bad they are for 3rd/4th edition.

The most current I have is the 4th/5th Eldar Codex.

I own SM, CSM, BT, IG, Orks, and Tau. I've got Eldar, GK, DA, SW and BA all but memorized. I don't have DE or Necron (as I don't play against them too much). What am I missing, feels like I'm forgetting something....

EDIT: Nids!! I've got a pretty good command of their dex too, but don't own it. I also own HH, Apoc, and a spattering of the IA books (can't wait for the new unified IG book).

I still haven't picked up a codex, a hobbytown near me had a bunch of current books for 10 dollars but I ended up putting off going back.

At least I finally have a rule book!

My closest current rulebook is 4th edition. But that's ok, because the game is all but dead in my area, so I only play with a couple buddies. But at least the 4th edition book lets me play with the largest number of armies, between all the normal codex ones and the cool ones from Chapter Approved, like Kroot Mercs, Armored Companies, Feral Orks, Space Wolves 13th Company and Cursed Founding chapters, to name a few.

I've had to deal with far too many instances of people not knowing the rules for their own damn army to not own and have read them all.

I own the codices for the two armies I play and all of the relevant FW books.

I "own" everything else GW has published for 40k

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

I've got the two 3rd ed guard and 5th edition Imperial Guard dexes.
4th ed Tau and Eldar.

I picked up the 4th ed Space Marine dex and the 3rd ed Dark Angels and the second 3rd ed Chaos codex as well as the old Eye of Terror codex at an op shop a few months back for a couple of bucks. None are useful any more but all are good for a read.

I own all of them back to 2nd edition... Aside from the new Chaos Codex. GW's choice to switch to ridiculously overpriced hardcover with no cheaper option resulted in my choice to stop buying codexes.

In granting those who oppose me death I am giving them the mercy of Nurgle.
Releasing my enemies from the bonds of fear and oppression , from the shame of betrayal, I preform a kindness I erase contempt, regret, sorrow, insanity all the burdens of life, embrace death and be free or reject Nurgles gift and be destroyed.

2.

The 3rd Necron codex as it still contains the actual fluff and the 6th one as it contains the current rules.

Almost all of them since 3rd, a couple of 2nd Ed ones. All but Taros Campaign from FW, most of the 40k expansions since Dark Millenium. The most important books in my collection are the Realms of Chaos. All 40k players should own these books as they provide such a solid foundation for the background.

I have maybe 12 all up across the editions from 2nd ed.

Eldar and SM for 2nd through 5th (4th ed for eldar) 10 or so.
GK - current one and 3rd ed one.

I did have a few others from 3rd/4th ed but I gave them away as I didn't play the armies and didn't need them.

Thinking of dumping the rest as well (into a skip - they have zero resale value and no-one wants them anyway and it isn't worth the cost of exporting them O/S) - since I no longer have any interest in playing the game (the models can stay - they were bought because I liked them, not because of the armies).

I've got all the codices from 2nd edition, pus a few of the ones released in WD and the compendium/compilation for 1st edition (like the one where your 1500 point GK army has 5 guys...)
I got most of the 3rd edition books, but they got put into storage once they were superceded,

I have roughly half the current codices, mostly because i couldn't decide what army to start playing when i took up the bobby again. all told, i think i have armound 40 or so codices from various editions, and probably about the same for WHFB

Back in 3rd edition, I collected them all. It's worth doing, both to know what's out there, and to help new players with the game.

These days I have a wife, kid, mortgage, and much less disposable income, so I only own the codex for my main army. Which is kinda a shame, because I have small allied sized forces of IG and eldar, but can't justify dropping the cash for a book for them.

I own the Codex of CSM, C:SM, GK, Daemons, IG and Tau and can borrow BA, DE, Newcrons and Nids quite fast and have read through the latter often enough to memorize them well.

Playing mostly Necromunda and Battletech, Malifaux is awesome too!

I'm only 2 shy of having them all. The Nids and Imperial Guard books.

Two armies I have never played and probably will never play, there's nothing wrong with them, it's just I don't like the themes/fluff and I can't paint flesh well

I have Eldar, Nids (5th and the old 4th, which I liked better.), Black Templars and Orks. I haven't actually played a game with my orks since 5th, and even then it was a small 500 points game. Most of my orks are still on a sprue. Is the chaos daemons update a full codex or is it just an update?
