hey guys/girls i'm jumping ship to this forum. i'm more of a game than the hobbiest, but i feel that changing in me. here lately i've felt the urge to start building and painting better. I play BA and we all know they are red.

Red's a beast. I have to add 2, sometimes 3 layers of paint just to get it to look decent. Is there a red rprimer somewhere out there? this would save me time and monies.

thanks for the help. also any advice on painting red would be awesome.

thanks in advance.

Army painter do a dragons blood and pure red. I use the dragons blood for blood ravens, takes a couple thin coats to get the solid looking red as i've just found out.

Army Painter has at least two red Primers that I know of, but they tend to be on the expensive side. The good thing is they match the Army Painter dropper bottle Warpaints exactly. I'll be using their Dragon Red for my Flesh Tearers project next year.

As for advice best tip i've is use red mixed with brown for highlighting, i've not tried this yet though.

These Devs were done with Army Painter Dragon Red:

Here's what it looks like straight out of the can, since the lighting in the Devs pic is a bit off and they've been washed with Badab Black. The red on these Priests is untouched:

A word of warning though, the paint can come out quite thick, so shake it like billy-o before you spray, and go for a couple of thin coats, rather than trying to do them in one go.

I prime red for my SOB. Works great!

Here's a link to my Blood Angels. http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/30/325566.page#2719326

I start with a light gray primer and then paint two light coats of Mechrite Red (the base color). After that I wash the entire model with red and then brown washes to add some shading to the model. I then paint everything but the deepest recesses with Red Gore ... this is my base coat.

Next step is a broad layer/highlight of a 1:1 mix of Red Gore and Blood Red. This usually takes 2 light coats. Finally, I do an edge highlight of Blood Red anywhere that was painted with the 1:1 mix, and generally only on the upper edges.

It ends up coming out with a deeper, almost slightly purple red. I use the color scheme as Angels Encarmine.

I do a prime with black or grey and then use Liquitex Professional Spray paint. It's a really bright shade of red. Usually only takes one coat.

It's very easily scraped though, so you have to be careful with models right after spraying.

Looks great though.
