I've often sat around for hours trying to create the perfect playlist to accompany a game, and further hours still tweaking it into multiple variations depending on who I am playing and which army I am bringing. I'm looking for inspiration and wondering if anyone out there does the same and/or has a song they feel represents their army.

So far I know the theme of Hive Fleet Sorginak: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qSKQFG42ROE With Portfolio - Mogwai As I listen to it I imagine a peaceful world under the devastation of a Tyranid invasion. The music starts out portraying a peaceful life which is interrupted by scattered warning signals after the first minute that seem ineffective and grow and grow into a cascading scream as the song reaches 1:45 but by then it is already too late: The onslaught begins and the planet itself shakes with the fury of the invasion then... silence.

Itd be some real gritty and dark Dubstep for my Orks. That mechanical sound, sounds like gears grinding together while singing, just fits Orks

See now I always thought of some kind of Primus when I think of orks. I totally see where you're coming from though. let me look through my collection and see if I can find some gritty industrial - dub.

Thanks for the idea. I'm now working on a new playlist for the next time I play my bro in law's orks (D*&n lootas and two big meks with shock attack guns) with the track you gave me and these to start with:

This is what comes to mind when I imagine the Craftworld Eldar trying to escape their Maiden Worlds just before the collapse of their empire.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k7zvKfCgkhw

I also tend to think of the following when thinking about my Orks.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WccfbPQNMbg

It's got an upbeat, happy-go-lucky sound to it, which is probably ringing in my Ork's heads while they are racing each other or having headbutting contests. :p

Of course, fighting against orks isn't much of a laughing matter, but they seem to enjoy it enough. I've been trawling various "Industrial" themed music while cobbling together the lead Stompa in my Dredd mob.

I'd not really consciously considered an army-wide playlist. I think you're on to something.

Personally, since i find my Imperial fists fighting a lot of Xeno scum, 'invaders must die' seems to fit my army quite well

Sounds dirty, but ominous as well, like the gears of war going. Not a reference to that ...shooter... just a reference to the gears turning.

Destroy them with Lazers by Knife Party - My Necron army without a doubt. Yes, I know Gauss =/= lazers....but you get the idea. My games typically start out with some destroyers and blades being jerkwads to early bloomers and unprotected fools with big space guns. Then the deepstriking units start showing up and it just kind of fades to black.

Wait, they have dubstep in the US now?

Though guards may sleep and ships may lay at anchor, our foes know full well that big guns never tire.

My first thought for my army was Aphex Twin - Come to daddy, but that is probably more suitable for a chaos army like Nurgle (I want your soul, come to daddy... papa nurgle an' all).

Which means I should probably use either Windowlicker (because my army is led by a madman) or The Complex Mathematical Equation (because he is a mad scientist).

Since my space marines are pure of heart and devoted to the cause of rightousness, the best song is an old Hymn, Hope of Israel.

1. Hope of Israel, Zion's army,
Children of the promised day,
See, the Chieftain signals onward,
And the battle's in array!

[Chorus]
Hope of Israel, rise in might
With the sword of truth and right;
Sound the war-cry, "Watch and pray!"
Vanquish ev'ry foe today.

2. See the foe in countless numbers,
Marshaled in the ranks of sin.
Hope of Israel, on to battle;
Now the vict'ry we must win!

3. Strike for Zion, down with error;
Flash the sword above the foe!
Ev'ry stroke disarms a foeman;
Ev'ry step we conq'ring go.

4. Soon the battle will be over;
Ev'ry foe of truth be down.
Onward, onward, youth of Zion;
Thy reward the victor's crown.
