Welcome to my new painting blog! Here I will be posting pictures of everything I paint, mainly to give myself the courage to keep chipping away at that mountain of grey and silver.

First up is the first model of my loyalist Thousand Sons. I have experimented a little with weathering powders on this guys. I like the results and will keep working on improving my technique. This guy is still painting in progress, but he's most of the way there.

Any comments, criticism, thoughts or areas for me to work on?

Very cool, I dig it! I think this is actually the first loyalist Thousand Sons mini I've seen...

It's been a while since I started this, but I took a long break to work on other projects. It's not been forgotten about, and these last few days I've started it up again. I have a campaign weekend in a couple of months and need to get an army built and painted! Here is where we stand right now.

I have to build another Contemptor and a Storm Eagle. There are a few other bits and pieces I want to pick up, including more Terminators, Heavy Support Marines and a third Contemptor, but that will likely be a while in the future. I've got enough to be contending with already!

Over the next few days I'll be finishing up building models, and then move on to painting. Oh, and for the FW purists, there is a 50% plastic Apothecary in there, and a smattering of plastic shoulder pads.. Sorry.

More to come!

Jealous of that Storm Eagle (although I've heard horror stories about the casting quality of it)... and for SHAME on the plastic apothecary and plastic shoulder pads!! Heresy, I tell you, HERESY!! (Yes, pun intended.) As penance, you must ship the offending models to me to be properly disposed of. If similar models show up in my army, it's purely coincidence, I assure you.

I tried to build the Storm Eagle last weekend. After an hour of fighting, heating, cutting and gluing, I had two choices. Throw it out the window, or put it down and work on other things... It's a bastard of a model, terrible build quality, and bad instructions.

If you haven't seen this thread yet you NEED to see it before you work on that model again:

I have built my second Contemptor, and think it's so cool I'm posting unpainted pictures of it to share. Take a look!

He's holding a dead World Eater in his left hand, and a captured World Eater's banner in the other.

What do you guys think? Did the Thousand Sons and World Eaters ever fight? If not I'll have to place my army in the Scouring and have them hiding as a Ultramarine second founding.

What a great pose on that Contemptor. I would make the marine in his hand a Space Wolf. The Space Wolves invaded their home planet before the Heresy and they fought many times after.

Nice stuff! I really like the pre-heresy Thousand Sons marine paintjob. I know it's WIP, but so far it looks fantastic!

My guys were not present on Prospero. They are some of the guys who were campaigning in some far flung corner of the galaxy at the time. They didn't find out about the fall of Prospero until much later, by which time the Legion was changed beyond all recognition. They fled and hid for a time. A while later they came out of hiding and performed hit and run attacks on the traitors, but for the most part stayed out of the way of the main action. Many years later they made a reappearance during the Scouring disguised as a Second Founding chapter. During the raising of Terra a great many records were lost, which allowed them to slip in amongst the remaining Legions and newly forming Chapters without too many raised eye brows. Naming themselves after Praetor Edithae they became the Blood Ravens.

Fits neatly with the canon fluff and lets me have loyalist Thousand Sons.

Did some painting this weekend. Amazing, I know! I got everything undercoated (:rolleyes, started painting some tactical marines, and basecoated some Apothecaries.

I have 10 painted up to that level. Not much, but it's a start. Here is a list of the colours used, more for my own records than anything else.

Halfords Red Primer - Which believe it or not goes straight over uncleaned FW models, no issues.
Heavy drybrush - GW Blood Red
Wash - GW Agrax Earthshade
Light drybrush - Valleyo Orange Red
Wash - GW Agrax Earthshade

The gold is from the Valleyo Liquid Gold, it's Red Gold, and the silver called Silver from the same range, with a heavy wash of Nuln Oil and Devlan Mud to dull it down. If you've never used Valleyo Liquid Gold paints I cannot recommend them enough. With a single coat you get a solid coat, but it's semi-transparant so you get the shading from the coat beneath. Excellent paints.
