Vote early, vote often on what pieces you want in the future versions of the game.

WHAAATTTT!!!!!!!!

Not fair and not right, why not just stick with it as it is. The new peices look terrible compared to the current.

Did you read the article? This isn't the first time that monopoly has gotten rid of pieces. My favorite piece, wheelbarrow, was a replacement piece. This is just getting news attention is because it's being decided by a community vote.

They should do an all new set and keep the traditional set in production as an alternative.

Let people buy whichever set they want.

Or people can just dust off the sets sitting on top of the wardrobes. You just need to reconcile the fact that playing pieces will be lost, not changed.

I have 6 fething copies of Monopoly.

3d Monopoly, 2 regular ones, a cat one, a star wars one and some other one that's nearly as old as my dad (1950s?). People kept buying me monopoly for some reason. Most of them are still shrink-wrapped. Weird.

well at least they are trying to be progressive about it. it also drums up sales and public interest in the game.

Monopoly happens to be my fav game. My wife and I have a rather large collection, including a 1938 Parker Brothers original.

one f these days i'm going to enter a regional event, and see about making it to the grand tournament. if not as a player, at least as a spectator in my lifetime.

What a bland and transparent technique :/

I watched the first 5 minutes of the Monopoly documentary, and it was pretty repulsive.

I believe the "documentary" script went something like,
"Everybody likes monopoly, do you?"
"Yes!"
"Monopoly is the best"
"Everyone loves Monopoly"
"Monopoly is a metaphor for life"
"Monopoly is my life"
...for 5 minutes, then I turned it off.

And this popularity thing is just another gross attempt at 5 minutes on the news and selling a slightly different version of the game

Maybe there's a fanatical Monopoly crowd, but I think the game's boring, slow, unbalanced (yes it's old, but, they keep marginally revising it), and I've never witnessed a game that didn't either end early b/c of boredom or end with someone who felt pissed about the results (usually both).

The only reason everyone plays monopoly is because its popular

The only reason its popular is because everyone plays it

Sure its a decent ish game to screw your friends over, but games like Diplomacy do that much better. I cant really remember all that much fun with monopoly. Though perhaps I should play it by British rules? (no buying on first run)

I think rage quitting is how one "wins" the game. It might be a house rule, idk...

and yes I have played a completed game of monopoly. it tends to take a weekend...

The last time I played Monopoly (not because that was a particularly bad time, just coincidence... I tend to need to be dragged kicking and grumbling into any similar game), I had my power gamer friend (I didn't realize you could power game Monopoly) clear out the three of us in IIRC 4 rounds-- yes, it's apparently possible to not rage quit, but the winner needs to be so highly efficient (or lucky) with the game that no one has time to give up.

I've never really understood why the pieces aren't well to do business men in a variety of outfits, rather than inanimate objects.

So it's looking as if the new playing pieces then will consist of

A cat
Chuck Norris
Bacon
Hacked mobile celebrity nudes
Self harming Beiber fans
Gangam style
and Fry from Futurama asking people to take his money ?

we sure this is a good idea ? Least we all know who to blame eh ?

wow tough crowd.

I have played many games of monopoly to completion.

I happen to enjoy the game. IF the rules adhered to,you can be done with a full 6 person game in 2 hours. you get downright cutthroat about it and it can go faster. problem is few people share my enthusiasm for the game, so I have had a very clear decline in games over the years, but oh well.

knowing what properties have a higher pay out then others based on certain criteria (like percentages landed on vs highest yield per investment)

you can turn it into a strategy game very quickly.

make no mistake, Monopoly is a game about total domination, there is no tie's, no second place. winner take all.

call me a fanboy if you like, I just happen to really enjoy the game.

I've heard a lot of people burning out on playing it after 6 months straight (but I only play it occasionally), and I don't really care for the expansions I've played, but thought the core game is pretty solid.... except for those agonizing games where half the time someone rolls, it's a 7 (those are like pulling teeth), which you can't really plan for, though it does seem to happen more in Settlers.
