This seems to good to be true so please LMK if I am comprehending the Salvo rule correctly:

The new Dark Angels codex has a Banner that gives all freindly bolters within 6" 'Salvo 2/4'. So therefore those bolters (while in the 6" bubble) are no longer Rapid Fire weapons? And they now each get 2 shots at 24" if they move, and 4 shots per gun at 24" if they remain stationary? Is that right?

Thanks

They follow the rules for salvo while in range of the banner, it does not say they are both, they simply change to salvo.

Yes. Aslong as they remain within 6" of the banner, their boltguns have that profile.

They swap their Rapid Fire type for Salvo 2/4 type while in range of the banner. Following all the rules for the applicable type.

Thanks guys. Seems like old Gun Line theory may be viable again (?), Especially if you toss in a librarian that could allow you to re-roll misses.

"A model armed with a Salvo weapon can move and fire at a target up to half its maximum range away."

so no, you cannot shoot 2 shots out to 24" on the move.

Aha. Good clarification Drunkspleen. So when I move I get 2 shots at 12" and when I sit still I get 4 shots at 24".

So I suppose we can assume if you move AND you wish to fire at a target 24" away you just get the usual 1 shot, correct?

I haven't read the rule but if it just says the bolter become salvo 2/4 then they can't shot further than 12 inches if they move.

the rule says that they treat them as salvo 2/4 weapons.

So yeah, if they are within range of the standard, they can't fire them as standard rapid fire weapons.

Interceptor Drones can disembark at any point during the Sun Shark's move (even though models cannot normally disembark from Zooming Flyers).

Salvo is almost the opposite of Rapid Fire. Or at least the old Rapid Fire.

If you stay still, you get twice as many shots at max range. if you move you get half as many shots at half range.

Do bikers' twin-linked boltguns become salvo 2/4 twin-linked boltguns, or do they lose twin-linked?

Hurricane bolters' descriptions say they are three bolters that fire as one weapon. So does each bolter in the hurricane bolter become salvo 2/4? And does it also keep twin-linked?

A combi-weapon is a boltgun with a single-shot attached weapon. Does the boltgun become salvo 2/4 or is it NOT a boltgun and is instead a "combi-weapon" that doesn't apply for the bonus?

In all the cases they are boltguns with additional rules. Unless it gets FAQ'd otherwise (which I doubt), they benefit.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

But do they become salvo 2/4, or do they become salvo 2/4, twin-linked?

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Nevermind, they're not boltguns with the rules rapid fire and twin-linked, they're just twin-linked boltguns, and boltguns are rapid fire. So when they become salvo 2/4, they're still twin-linked boltguns.

So they stay twin-linked and just change rapid fire to salvo 2/4. Answered my own question.

Great question Spellbound. My gut would say yes they get the twin linked but I could certainly imagine a RAW freak saying that the banner rules state "Boltguns" become Salvo 2/4, it does not state "Twin Linked Boltguns" are now Salvo 2/4. Hmm.

I could agree if not for the precedent set forth by Hellfire round, which can only be fired from boltguns, and is clarified that this includes Combi, weapons, and the bike TL-boltgun.

They most certainly retain Twin-Linked, there's no way it could possibly be lost, the only way Twin-Linked could affect it is if you claim a Twin-Linked Boltgun is not a Boltgun and thus is ineligible to be effected by the banner.

Treating their boltguns as Salvo 2/4 weapons as a rules instruction is totally incapable of altering whether or not they have the Twin-Linked prefix.

Indeed, you simply replace Rapid Fire with Salvo 2/4. You retain any other rules the weapon had.

So then what about hurricane bolters? Do they benefit from the standard?

Seems like that banner in a Fortress of Redemption is going to be very tough to get close to.

Apply the same rules as you would apply to a bike's twin-linked bolters, the Hurricane bolter is just 3 of those that can be fired as a single weapon per its rules.

2 things were pointed out to me on release day.

1) All relentless (bikes and vehicles) and Slow and Purposeful (Termies) models fire Salvo weapons as if they didn't move.

2) Boltguns, seemingly, be more then just Bolters, as Boltgun is a section, with mulitple weapons in the BRB, that include the Autocannon.

So new question, what is the limit of this banner?

lol, it would suck if your Vulcan mega-bolter(also in the boltgun section) got too close to the banner.

You'd run out of dice real quick with some.

But I'd guess Autocannons, Mega-bolters and so are not Rapid Fire so there's nothing to replace with Salvo 2/4.

Not really, I'd much rather have Heavy 15 than Salvo 2/4

I think its a stupid question, but the stormbolters (deathwing) also get the salvo 2/4 since stormbolters are a type of boltGUN (according to the main rulebook)?

Thus it would appear that it works for all three Dark Angel army's standard guns (DW, RW, green wing)? I guess they'll be called the Dakka Angels from now on.

Of course its really only an awsome thing on Relentless/SnP platforms, or if the guys just have regular Bolters. Non-relentless guys with stormbolters won't get much benifit.
