Anyone got any simple tips on how to highlight my golds I still use the old Citadel Burnished Gold and Shining Gold paints at the moment, All I want is a quick way of highlighting golds to look like they have a shine.

Seconded. I use a chestnut ink wash on my golds to make them a bit richer and then hit the edges with a touch of mithril silver for that blingy shine

Another method is to use a coper or bronze base for the gold and then work up to an actual gold on the edges.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

I'd say almost the same. Highlight gold with silver.

You can add chesnut ink for a richer and warmer gold, purple washes to add depth to the shades ar simply paint gold over a brown basecoat.
But always add touches of silver as final highlights. This is the most important step. Cherry on the cake.

Here's an example :

Awesome, thanks guys!

@Minus: I'm guessing the technique you used for your guy was the gold, chestnut ink, purple ink and silver highlights? Would've never thought to add purple to it, I'll have to try that out.

Yes. To be more complete :
- scorched brown
- tin bitz
- 50/50 mix of tin bitz + shining gold
- shining gold
- chestnut ink, because I wanted a warm gold color
- shining gold
- a very little bit of purple in the recesses
- shining gold + silver
- silver

^^
That's quite a lot of steps, but well it's a character. Gold doesn't have good coverage properties, that's why I use intermediate steps. And purple is the complementary color of yellow. Gold is yellow, so adding purple as shades is interesting. I only do it on characters or special models though.

On my space marines torsos I use far less steps and it looks good enough to me. (an example here on my speeder's pilot : http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/397404-Ultramarines%20Land%20Speeder%20Typhoon.html?m=2 )

If you don't use chestnut ink (or an equivalent like ogryn flesh) you can get a colder color for your gold. But I still always highlight with silver. An example here on Cassius, if you can easily see the difference of the gold tone between Marneus and Cassius : http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/310868-Chaplain%20Ortan%20Cassius%2002.html?m=2

For gold I just use Balthsar gold as a base (very brown and gold so I find a coat or two goves decent coverage and base), followed by Shining Gold 1:1 with Balthsar, wash with Black, pure shining gold and Burnished Gold for a highlight. However, Burnished gold, is actually more yellowy than metalic, so as soon as this pot is finished I'm upgrading to Golden Griffon (Dry Paint) and going to water it down to paint with.
