Good Morning my fellow Orks! Er wait... that didn't come out right.... er.. ugh... WAAAGH!

Annnyway...

So I'm looking at 200pt Kill Teams - Campaign coming up at my FLGS next month. My biggest threats are going to be Tau and Grey Knights (mainly because of that friggin DreadKnight that they have). I had initially planned a Green Tide of nothing but Shoota Boyz and a Nob, but both the Tau and the GK DreadKnight can out range and out manuver me. Not to mention, with the new 2013 rules you can field Vehicles now so that means I might need something that can bust open tanks...

So here's what I'm looking at thus far:

5 Lootas
rest 'Ard Boyz with Shootas.

Thoughts?

MANZ sound very liable, warbikers or nob bikers seem to work well for me.

erg... the one type of model that I don't have yet... LOL

Or how's this for an alternative to the MANZ: 2 DeffKoptas with the Kustom Mega-Blasta (40pts ea for total of 80), 10 'Ard Boyz with Shootas led by one Nob with a Shoota (120pts)? That would possibly give me mobility if I get the Tau plus the shooty if I get the Grey Knights.

Why not take more regular boyz instead of 'ard boyz op?

Also, how is the GK player fielding a dreadknight at 200pts? there's no way that thing is a troop choice.

A handful of nobz and a battlewagon could work.

I like using a lot of shootaboys with some lootas or similar.

Have a lot of fun, and take a ton of grotz.

If your opponent tries to use a Dreadknight they are cheating. The FOC for killteam is 0-2 troops, 0-1 elite, 0-1 fast attack. Heavy support and HQ units are not allowed at all.

As for how to win with orks: nobz + battlewagon (dedicated transport, not HS). Very few armies will expect to face AV 14 in a 200 point game, and even fewer will be able to do anything about it. So you just drive around taking shots here and there and all your opponent can do is remove casualties.

Don't forget the Necrons!

Seriously though, the battlewagon suggestion is a good one. I was personally toying with a similar, albeit Necron-y, idea.

Also, just to clarify a bit on behalf of DieselJester, the campaign is starting off with 200 pt kill teams, and escalating in points value each week. Week 2, he may have to deal with a Dreadknight, but that won't be kill teams.

No he won't because the rules specifically do not allow heavy support units.

Again, only the first week of this campaign is kill teams. In week 2, which I believe is 1000 points, he could potentially face a Dreadknight.

And I missed that part of the rules at the store. So straight KT first week and no (thank Mork and Gork) DreadKnight or other Heavy Support. That actually is a relief now!

in an esscilation type of game, I personally find that the best thing is to build the maximum sized lift first, and then to find what from them is the optimal kill-team.

You don't want your killteam to force you to later take things you don't want later on.

Tau example-stealth suits are GREAT in kill teams, but if it escalates to 2000, they lose potency, FAST. they are more powerful the lower the point cost, as they can use their maneuverability and deployment options more freely there, in large games however, infiltrating is a joke, and there is far less room to jump around, making them lose the one thing that was good at them.

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now.

would be great if not for the fact that I'd have to scrap build 3 buggies in 2 days. :/

So here's the final two ideas that I'm running with now: Please keep in mind that I'm constructing these lists off of what I have avaliable to me model-wise.

Option 1: Speed Kills with an Eye in the Sky.
11 'ard Boyz w/ shootas
1 'ard Nob w/ shoota
1 Trukk (no extra options)
1 DeffKopta

Idea being that all the boyz and the nob hang out in the Trukk for a little joyride while the DeffKopta ranges people. Problem with this is that only presents two targets to whomever I'm fighting and I doubt that the Trukk would live long. But should the Trukk survive, I got 12 shooty guys in the back picking off targets as they go by.

Option 2: The Range Game
5 Lootas
10 'ard Boyz w/ shootas
1 'ard Nob w/ shoota w/ Big Choppa

The idea with this list is just to play the range game. 48" with the DeffGuns means that I got anyone who's on the table since they're only going to be 4'x4'. Boyz and Nob footslog it out in order to weed out any hiding in terrain, in buildings, in ruins, whatever.

Option 3: Air Calvery
3 DeffKoptas
rest regular Shoota Boyz with a Nob leader.

The idea here would be to just range everyone with the Koptas and pray to Mork and Gork that they don't get blown away before the shootas make it across the board. I've used this list before with mixed results. If I'm up against Tau, that means trying to get their guys in crisis suits before they get my Koptas. Otherwise, it's a moot point to continue on since I can't close with them always assaulting away.

LOL. Sadly, I don't have enough Grot models to do that! Believe me, I thought of trying that out! That'd be 50 grots and 10 Runtherds!

If I manage to scrape together enough grot models to do that with before the 1st of March, I might actually do it just for grins and giggles.

Note that in Killteams you do not even need the runtherders everyone counts as independent characters. you could go for even more gretchins than that.

Hilarious, true, but also remember that in KT you have to start with a viable squad in unit cohereancy.
