In the warp, searching for Marbo

I couldn't help but wonder how the majority of the people on Dakka say it. Personally, I pronounce it as Lazegun, because well it's a laser gun and in my mind they just took cut laser in half and stuck it onto gun.

Of course this was before I'd actually heard anyone else pronounce it. So I'd been saying like that for a long time, and will keep saying it as such

After all these years of searching for Marbo...he found me. Heretics beware! He's back!

"Lazgun"

The emphasis falls on the second syllable, so the first syllable can't be /ej/ (or would it be /Ej/? My X-SAMPA is rather rusty, and I was never clear on the distinction between /e/ and /E/).

I guess you would pronounce it "lasgun".
Why dont you use phonetics in the poll?
I dont really know the difference between Lase, Lass and Lazz.
Is the Lase "e" silent? What's the different in Z and S?
To me the Z in Zorro and S in Sorrow sounds pretty much the same.

But on the other hand, english is one of the most unlogical languages in the world.

But thankfully we don't need 12 different versions of "the"

Thanks for adding a poll, Bob! The last thread didn't give me any real clear idea of what the numbers shook out like.

I say lazz. (Rhymes with spaz, jazz, and Taz.)

I think I might have heard a total newbie say lass-gun once, but someone corrected him and I don't think I've heard it since.

I still, to this day, have never heard anyone pronounce it lays-gun in real life.

I have always said Lazzgun and it's what I've heard almost everyone say. I've only ever heard a couple of people say Lassgun, which I guess I can sort of understand because there is an S there. I have never once heard someone say Lasegun though...

Mostly I call them flashlights though

Since Lasguns shoot Laser beams, I figured it would be pronounced Lays-gun.

No, that would be silly. The gun doesn't shoot potato chips.

Nor does the gun shoot wee scottish lasses.

Boy, it must've been a terrible experience when that madman put a gun to your head and forced you to read this thread.

On topic: I've always pronounced it "Lazz". Since the word "laser" is pronounced "Lay-zer", though, "layz" might be the "correct" pronunciation, or as correct as it can be.

Laz-Gun.

Also, accordng to some local players, a soldier who wields a lasgun is a lasman (laz-man / laz-men).
As in, "this squad of lasmen is going to shoot their flashlights at you."

It's oddly endearing.

I don't know, the last post in that thread is someone saying it's pronounced 'laze'. And we all know that last post == thread winner.

I don't know why but I find that oddly funny. I'm going to have to start using that now.

I pronounce it like this: Lassgan ( we pronounce gun like 'gan' in our language ).

And I think that correct one will be Lass not Lazz, if you listen to Guardsmen battle cries in DoW I and II you can heard them saying "Cleanse them with Lass".

So it's Lassgun for me.

I've always heard it for years as "Lazzgun"

Not "Lassgun" or "Laysgun", and IIRC a few interviews in Space Marine, they pronounced it that way.

Of course, since I don't have links, the rules of the internet state it never happened.
