I think I have managed to resist contributing. While it is a stunning deal I have no need for a single fantasy model and would much rather fund dreamforge at the moment. Still, it is great fun watching the money grow!

Sure you have a need them. Pledge $1 and then buy the 1/2 price paints and the $25 case.....

My worry here is that the Walmart Pickle jar effect will hit. Total market saturation. Everyone who wants bones will have all they need, and be able to dump extras on people who maybe would buy a few, and who would shell out a lot for the metal models after this?

When walmart sold giant cheap pickles in a jar, it cut into the profits of the rest of the picklemakers line, since nobody ever thought they needed pickles.

The online Kickstarting community who is also willing to drop $100+ on this stuff is a very small percentage of the overall miniatures market. I'm sure it'll cut into Reaper pucahses for about 8,000 people, but then again they can churn out, what? 75,000 figures in a weekend or something ridiculous like that? Someone's buying those. And if the Bones range is currently 1/3 of all the stuff they ship..

Ok, looks like I can contribute!

From the Reaper Facebook page, though unlikely to be the real deal.

I may have to pick up enough of those Owlbears to make a KoW unit of them.

Wasn't very impressed with this... until I looked up different pics on google. They are a nice little odd monster.

here's a pic of that griffin on what i'm fairly certain is a 40mm base
the owl bear is a little smaller but still nicely fills a 40mm base

I agree with everything else you said, but I have to briefly point this out.

Look at the dark Heaven Legends line. I can;t imagine how many figures that line has moved over it's lifespan, and all of those will be resold in Bones!

Reaper has never indicated that any (or even a majority) of their Dark Heaven Legends line would be resold in Bones. In fact, the high cost of Bones molds means that it is most likely that there will always be fare more metal figures available from reaper than Bones and that post-kickstarter new metal figures would still be released in greater numbers.

The metal owlbear and griffin both come with 40 mm plastic bases and fill them quite well (Bones don't normally come with bases though). The owlbear is probably 1 3/4" to the top of his head, but his crazy arm swing adds another bit on top of that.

The griffin is a little taller to the top of its head and the wings add another inch or so.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Right now - the base Bones package includes over $900 worth of miniatures if you were to buy them in metal (not counting the 21 new figures in that section which would add another $100-200).

http://greg.botch.com/bones/

The options are probably good for another $1500-2000 in metal.

Yup

Watching them go (and commenting) is part of the fun of participating

I felt I had about $100 of value from the SW community alone (I did have to spend more than that though)

It is like the Zombie plague - only with miniatures.

Eventually - everyone will turn, and then they will go after the ones who haven't.

That you should get away from modern telecommunication of any form for the next 56 hours.

They sure will want to turn up the hype up another notch for the last day or two and break that 2 million mark.

And keep in mind - your $100 is actually getting $125 worth of stuff because you get to use Sophie to get options. One of the best looking coupons I have seen in a long time.

That drops the cost per miniature down to stupid levels from ridiculously low levels already. Use it to add on 4 sets of IMEF or Nova marines if that is your thing or get a Dragon at no additional cost...or a couple of bone giants.

Crazy good deal.

I have zero need for these things... but the deal is too amazing at this point, I'll find something to do with them. Just give in and then you don't have to fight it any more.

I'm now at the point where I'm thinking up reasons to use these models:

Frost Wyrm? Random creature a Kill-Team can encounter in Deathwatch.

Hydra? Clearly another dangerous lizard living in the desert of the world my group is on in our Dark Heresy campaign.

Deep Dwellers? Lesser Warp Daemons that will attack the players as they transit from one planet to another.

Haunts/Fire It Up? Warp manifestations!

Beholder? Enslaver!

Skeletons? More fodder for Quest.

Vermin? Dark Heresy! Necromunda! Quest!

Zombiehunters? Zombicide!!!

Who's Your Mummy? More Quest!

I'm sure I'll think of more. Not getting Sophie nets me the Frost Wyrm and Hydra for +$0, and that's awesome!

Yup.

Just checking the "1 million" post in this thread (which is probably not quite accurate in timing, but good enough), than they did 1 million on the 20th at about 3.30.

Now they are at 1.758.903, so they added over 3/4 of a million in the last roughly 83 hours (lets round it up to 85). That's about 8.928 US$ per hour.

They have another 54 hours to go. At a linear rate, that would add almost another half million (482.126,- US$) for a total of about 2.24 Million.

And I kinda doubt it stays linear...

Sucky thing though is $2,000,000 = give $200,000 to Kickstarter & Amazon, so it's more like $1,800,000.

But then, $1,800,000 isn't really all that sucky either...
