Hey all,

So a fairly idle question for you all: if you were given 1,000pts of any given army, today, which would it be - and why? Other than your own one, of course! Perhaps more interestingly, why don't you already collect them?

For me, it is Bretonnians: I like the idea of all-cavalry, of the grand charge, of having armour that actually works. Perhaps it is because I'm dying inside with every game that I move my Tomb Guard a meagre 4" forward per turn, and just feel base desire when I look at the horses and high movement values of a Bretonnian army. But - even if I wasn't mired in painting skeletons and constructs - I couldn't bring myself to start them now. For one, their models are just... not good. The basic knight model is desperately average: over-the-top but also boring, a quite odd combination. The only other good ones are the Damsels and the Green Knight, which isn't exactly the core of an army. Then there is the fact that they have a legendarily difficult and dated army book. I remember that book coming out, before I took a several-year gap from the game.

Well for me its High Elfs, the main reason is that I can not without a somewhat heavy hearth build what would effectively be my third elf army for WHFB. I have built a Wood Elf amy and a dark elf army. I would really like to do so however if their troops where somewhat more sturdy, Lothrien Sea guard and Sword masters should be more long lived, and not drop dead if a enemy looks at them and then break wind. Also the prospect of yet more filmsy models makes me cringe

not sure I'd care much for just 1,000 pts (I like a lot of stuff in my armies!). So I'll pretend you asked what if I was given 3,000pts of an army...

Hmm, I've thought about it a lot recently, as I'm trying to decide my next army. I have it narrowed down to a few - WE, Lizardmen, TK.

Why? B/c I like their respective fluff and flavor. I think the WE create a nice juxtposition of little hooded elves mixed w/ big tree monsters. And I really like their fluff. Lizardmen are friggin walking lizards w/ big dinosaurs w/ Aztec/Mayan style. Though I'm not their biggest fan of fluff. TKs themselves aren't anything visually special to me, but all those construct monsters I think create another good visual contrast to the little skellies. I do like the fluff. Also, all 3 are Order or Neutral, which I favor!

If I had to narrow it down to just 1, right now? I'd probably go w/ TK, as I'm partial to the 8th Ed books. ...the books themselves - hardback, full color, design, etc - not necessarily the rules in the books lol.

And finally, why haven't I collected them? $$$$! Had I made some better financial decisions when I first started the hobby a few years ago, I'd probably have 1 or 2 of the aforementioned armies.

I would just like to point out that the bretonnian questing knights and peg knights are awesome models.

As to answer the question, with out a doubt it would be wood elves. I think they have some of the best models in all of fantasy, and their playstyle is something I know I would enjoy- because that is how my eldar play in 40k.

I ofc have not started wood elves because of all my unpainted eldar, csm, vostroyans, and brettonians. Once I get caught up and want another fantasy army though...

Or perhaps 800 points of skeletons for vampier scouts. I have a lot of tomb king skeletons. I am not painting any more skeletons. :-)

Vampire Counts. I haven't started them because I have a certain vision for my Lahmian force, but the models just aren't quite there yet to be able to match it.

Maybe when Khemri gets new Skellies.

Dwarfs were the first WHFB army I ever played and I like Dwarfs in general.

OnG mostly for he Orcs. I like orcs as much as I like Dwarfs... they both seem like hardy creatures.

Nice thread idea!

For me, it's probably Vampire Counts. They're a cool looking army, and I like the whole idea behind how they work, as well as the aesthetics and the ability to field a tooled-up vampire, one of the strongest models in the game, imo.

The reason I don't collect them already is purely for financial reasons. I'm already juggling multiple armies and one more wouldn't be possible. After I've sorted things out with my other armies, Vampire Counts are probably next on my list!

Beastmen or Ogres ...but then again OnG would be fun to build as well. I just think building an army of goats and bulls would be so much fun... Sheer devastation and complete chaos on the battle field with any three of these Armies is just tempting!!! Oh and yeah I agree with Dr. Cheesesteak it would have to be 3K pts.

Lizardmen. Dinosaur junkie as a kid, right here! Stegadons are amazing models, carnosaurs kick derrière, and terradons rock the skies. Slaan are interesting, but the dinos are the important part. As to why I never started them...I have no answer for that. I just didn't. I guess it's cuz 3 out of the 15 people I played WHFB already played them. I was the only daemon player, one of two warriors players, and the only empire player-I didn't want to join the other guys as a lizard player.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Dont collect it because the models are quite expensive and even if I had the spare cash it would just take forever to locate enough models.

This is the 2nd thread you've been bashing them on, you must have some really bad beast players in your local area but I do not recommend posting false information new members to the hobby might actually believe. Challenging? Yes. Unplayable? Far from it. This type of commentary is usually an excuse by bad players.

I'd go with Orcs and Goblins with Savage Orcs and regular goblins not night goblins and as many pump wagons and war machines I could fit in.

Thus, After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd
