This is one of the most interesting visual choices in the game. Objectives can be anything!

My play group has recently moved up from wine corks to silly models to make little narrative jokes. I.e, Tyranids v Tau, with Space Marine Tac guys as objectives to represent our mutual hatred of MEQ (racing each other to kill Marines first).

I just bought some of the nude studies from Cool Mini to be along these lines. My play group are conveniently mostly professional artists, so the nudity bothers no one and we can paint it well!

What about you guys?

My LGS got a donation of little bits that one of our customers had hand made for D&D games, but they're more often used as objective markers for 40k. Most of the time we end up using the 1"x1" wooden floor tiles, though I prefer to use things like crystals, gold coin piles, and treasure chests.

I'm not sure where you'd get them, but my FLGS has little crystal things that we usually use. Small, easy to notice, and not completely out of place.

I use big dice, that way we can set m objectives if we need to.

Probably should use all the teleport homers and objective bits from stealth suits

Our group uses small square bases from fantasy, with a bit of index card glued on top for scouring objective markers.
For everything else we all have a few general objectives, but we all try to keep them small-ish (around 1" diameter or so) as to not take up HUGE amounts of space in terrain and whatnot

Variety of Ammo boxes, Battle Sister painted as a statue, injured Guardsman, teleport homer, strange little 'Nid egg thing(tm) and a nice chained daemon(that I really should get round to painting).

All on a standard sized base to keep things consistent.

I use a little human family I picked up Hobby Lobby. They're almost exactly to scale next to a Guardsmen, and I think they're both hilarious and effective for a narrative (this important Imperial family, related to the high lords of Terra, ec)

A stranded Tau Tank Commander, some Chaos Icons, the already mentioned and wildly loved Terminator Teleport Homer and as this is not enough most of the times or it does not fit we make wildly use of other models not used in play.

Playing mostly Necromunda and Battletech, Malifaux is awesome too!

I make my own objective markers for each of my armies so that they look like something they are trying to get a hold of.

Of course it makes sense. When there are a bunch of BDSM clowns doing Olympic gymnast routines throughout your unit, while also cutting off heads, you tend to get a bit distracted.

We always just used anything from pennies to metal/different coloured dice, but right now, I realised just how many daemonic banner's I have from my daemons troops. Going to make them into 6 objectives, 1 from each god, one for malal, for the lols, and one for chaos undevided

But given the choice? I would get 6 daemonhosts, and have them as objectives. Enemy has to kill/save them to stop the daemons, daemons have to protect them to survive.

That's actually a pretty cool idea.

Now I feel pathetic: we use paint pots.

On my own, I use some of the GW servo skull markers. They're distinct enough, no one picks them up and they hold dice to indicate what kind of mysterious objective they may be.

At the FLGS, the staff painted some extra Sam Gamgee models gold and we use the Golden Gamgrees as objective markers (gotta get that little gold frying pan!)

For nurgle csm - plaguebearer statue, toxic barrel, tentacle thing from pile of slime, skaven screaming bell brazier, old metal csm banner.

For marines/imperium - mostly ammo boxes and the like all on 25mm bases. Some of them are set up like bombs (potentially virus bombs that need to be detonated / deactivated)

I glued a bunch of spare Marine weapons, pauldrons and grenades etc to a few 25mm bases to represent ammo caches or relics to be defended/siezed... cheap and effective.
