Well I have a hard time making army lists for my Blood Angels because I just have so damn many of them. I was playin in a. Casual game on Friday and decided to play a funky themed list. I have 3 chaplains and Astorath, 2 pods, 18 DC on foot and I also had a just painted storm raven and land raider that I wanted to use for the first time ever.

HQ
Astorath
DC Tycho

Elites
1 chaplain with PP
1 chaplain with Inf pistol
Sanguinary priest with JP

Troops
9 DC. Half bolters, plasma pistol, power sword, fist Drop pod
9 DC. Half bolters plasma pistol, power maul, power sword, fist, Drop pod
10 assault marines, 2 meltaguns, SS, LC
5 scouts combimelta

Storm raven. Assault cannon, MM
Landraider - standard.

Although completed non standard or competative, was a ton of fun to play and I won!

So what themed lists do you guys play, they must not be on the surface competative spam lists like: vendetta or night scythe spam.

It has its moments and its really nowhere near competative in the slightest, but it is a real shock sometimes when a draigowing player doesent expect to see it.

Well in this case we're looking for lists that are the noncompetitive themes. Themes can be competitive, we just want to see the ones that aren't here.

I used to run a Penal Legion army that used all Penal Legionaries, a Lord Commissar, and a couple sentinels. I usually lost pretty badly because I had pretty much no anti-tank, but who really cares? They're the Emperors trash

The wraith army i had would murder tanks and armour, but against horde i had no chance.
Was nice not to have to worry about the landraider rolling towards me though, since everything in my army could take it down.

Could be competitive. Swap out the 7 wraithguards for a wraithseer and units of 3 jetbikes. swap out starcannons for EML (its not likee you need more anti termie). Maybe find a way to fit in the Dark eldar Baron for hit and run wraithguard. BOOM! great list. And *MAYBE* swap out a wraithlord for a unit behind a defense line with quad gun for anti air.

Deathwing would fit into the competative segment. The point here is to not pick overpowered units.

My next game will use:

Fateweaver
2 x 11 pink horrors
Flamers
Screamers
Burning Chariot

(allies)
Ahriman
2x 5 Thousand Sons
Helldrake

That's a LOT of points in HQ for a 1500 pt game; but I'm just trying out the various psyker stuff. Most likely my next game is against GK, so should be interesting.

3x 30 units of hormagaunts
(something like 4 pts apiece then)
3x biovores
3x 3-man squad of tyranid Warriors w/venom cannon

The eneral idea was to have so many fething models the enemy couldn't kill them all. It worked many a time, 180 gaunts is a LOT to kill.

Themed armies that use non-competitive themes?

How about this one?

Uriah Jacobus
- 3 Crusaders
- 6 Death Cultists (axe and mace)
- Rhino

Canoness
- Power Maul
- Inferno Pistol
- Rosarius
- Sororitas Command Squad with Immolator, 2 Flamers, Blessed Banner
Elites
- 3 9-strong Repentia squads

- 3 Ecclesiarchy Priests with Power Mauls

Troops
- 3 min-size Battle Sister squads with twin flamers and Rhinos

Heavy Support
- 3 max-size Penitent Engine squadrons

I guess they're a little too competitive, what with chewing through anything tough-but-slow, and the army comes out to about 1750 points at a guess, but they're still themed and sub-optimal.

Why can't a themed list be Competitive as well?
Themed and Competitive have nothing to do with each other.
I see most of these armies above are all spamming units too.

I'd still say Necron Airforce is a pretty well themed army.

I'd have to say because spamming flyers is a lot different than spamming other units in 40k, like troops XD

Flyer spam wins you games and tourney's

Troop spam wins you respect and friendship + a good chuckle, maybe a beer or two depending on how hard you get whooped

Themed and Competitive are not mutually exclusive. This is true.

That said, the OP is asking for folks to post their themed armies that aren't particularly competitive, not arguments as to why they can be both.

Here's one of my favourites.

Big Mek Lugnutz (With SAG)
Big Mek Spinnywotz (With SAG also ...and yes i know KFF is more useful and more competitive )

Deff Dredd - Da Klankyfekz - 4 DCCW
Deff Dredd - Ole' Burny. - 2 DCCW, 2 Skorcha

Killa Kanz - 3 with Grotzookas
Killa Kanz - 3 with Rokkits

Fun doesn't mean "auto lose" To boast, here's a very recent example

So a friend of mine painted me two Thunderwolf Lords and Arjac as a gift, and wanted to play against them at 1500 points. He brought his Necrons (1 AB, 4 Wraiths with Lord and MSS, 2 Night Scythes, the FA choice with blast weapons, huge Warrior blob, Death and Despair Flamer unit in NS, the HQ chariot thing). Obviously his Necron list wasn't super min/maxed, but it was far from an uncompetative list.

I ran:
1 Wolf Lord (TH, SS, Thunderwolf, Runic Armor, two Fenrisian Wolves)
1 Wolf Lord (PF/WC, Belt of Russ, Thunderwolf, Runic Armor, Saga of the Bear, two Fenrisian Wolves)

3 WG (One Arjac, two PA and combi melta) in a DP

5 GHs, Flamer, Rhino
5 GHs, Flamer, Rhino

5 TWC with two SSs and a TH

6 Long Fangs with 5 MLs.

So...Wolf Star with 2 minimal Troop choices and only 26 bodies (well and four Fenrisian Wolves) on the board, I ended up beating a pretty well balanced Necron list by out maneuvering my opponent. (I also go lucky that we rolled Big Guns, and I could sit my Fangs on an objective)

6x 12 Psyker Henchmen 720 =6x Strength 10 AP1, Large Blast with 36" range

E
3x Culexus Assasin 405 =keep them close to the psykers and they fire up to 74 S5 AP1 shots each (yes 74). Of course they will more likely be firing about 40 or so but even after your opponent rolls 3++ that is just the right amount to destroy any unit that dares deep strike onto your doorstep in one go.

This comes to 1225pts so you can add in another HQ and FA/HS choices. Tbh its more about the fun of shooting that many psychic attacks so the rest doesnt matter
