Sigh.

Yes, GW we get it! Xenos are not allowed to customize their units in the same logical way that non-xenos are.
It would of course be utterly broken if non-Imperium units could take some kind of special/heavy weapons (whatever kind they may be) on our units.

What the FAQ? That's just silly. Really silly.

It's annoying that it's only broadsides, but the idea that we could have taken missile drones on basically every unit for just ungodly numbers of high BS missile shots with drone controllers does seem like perhaps it's broken.

They could have let us keep it on 1 more unit, though. Like, just stealth and broadsides for instance. That would have been reasonable.

You couldn't, Missile Drones don't benefit from Drone Controllers, of course, who knows if that's intended or not now...

My question is, why does a fun unit that might have seen widespread use get FAQ'd into being artificially restricted on day 1, and yet utterly broken things like the Tzeentch Chariot are still, well... broken, a month down the track.

Interceptor Drones can disembark at any point during the Sun Shark's move (even though models cannot normally disembark from Zooming Flyers).

While a bummer, the fact that apparently every poster in this thread was leaning towards missile drone spam makes me think this might not be the worst thing for the codex as far as making a variety of builds similarly powerful. It's only been out a day, right...? Give it a little time to percolate

Oh... Well I should have known that firewarriors wouldn't get a nice special weapon in the squad.

And here I was hoping that we could see suit builds without missiles, just using drone back up. I was fine with them at BS2 because I was just going to take a crap load.

As long as I can still take my markerdrone cloud around my HQ, I'll be fine.

I'm expecting an Imperial Knights supplement dedicated to GW's loyalist apologetics. Codex: White Knights "In the grim dark future, everything is fine."

lose everything that we hold dear, everything that keeps the business going. Our crops will wither, our children will die piteous
deaths and the sun will be swept from the sky."

Of course not?
The whole point of Tau (fluffwise) is that each piece of the army works in harmony with another, synergizing to have the best effect possible.

I'm glad they didn't just slap special weapons into Fire Warrior squads and make a Xenos Guard army.

It's not about fluff, it's about table top performance. Giving them some special weapons at a reasonable cost just means that they become more adaptable to handle problems. Fluff also changes, like with Necrons and the addition of Tesla weapons.

Tau function so completely different from guard it's not even funny. Adding special weapons to the main troop just makes them versatile, instead of being forced to bring down units with flat out volume of fire. In fact the new HQs are actually making the army more of a gunline since they reward firewarriors for not moving. Tau vehicles are all skimmers and hard to hide due to their size so they are constantly going to be on the move and have notoriously limited weaponry (Hammerheads losing 2 burst cannon shots and only having a single shot, Devilfish getting only S5 weapons still, and Skyrays still not really justifiable)

What's better than an editor halfassing the proof process for a codex? Doing it again on the FAQ

What gets me is that they'll still proof it completely later and we'll have more corrections then.

I have a question, is there really two different ranges for the Pulse Rifle in the rulebook? Or was that an innacurate rumour. Because if there is that error and they didn't faq it...

If course not. You're assuming this FAQ is because they caught an error in the book, which, of course, they didn't. What most likely happened is that either

A) Ward played a game against a shop Tau player and got missile reamed and due to his butthurt took the nerf bat out ASAP.
B) using the one day that GW design team is allowed to surf the interwebz, one of them saw a net list and had to preserve SM dominance over Tau.

There is no way I'll believe this was a correction instead of a post release nerf. Looking at the codex, you can see the intent for MDs being widely available all over the place.

At least they could have given kroot their attack back in the same document.

If every SM Chapter is so brokenly overpowered, why are Imperial Guard and Necrons the top performers? Blaming everything on some sort of percieved bias towards Space Marines is getting old, get over it.
