Howdy, just figured I'd point you in the direction of my fairly in-depth battle reports of my Adepticon with Grey Knights + Necron Allies. Feel free to comment here or over there, your thoughts are welcome

Well done on getting to the last 16 especially given your lack of games. Good to see you back in the blogosphere, I really used to enjoy your DE reports and the greycron battles were up there with them.

To show you the quality of my opponent as a player, he debated sending in his scarabs to charge into the big combat, but decided (quite wisely) to just sprint them into my deployment zone behind a hill, outside my reach, so he'd get Linebreaker
Scarabs are swarms so arent scoring or denial so no linebreaker for them!, Not sure if it would have affected that game much but worth noting for future reference

Although there were some rules mistakes here and there, it happens especially when you are just getting back into 6th Edition. Congrats on making the Top16. That is quite a feat out of over 200 players!

Unless the mission was the Scouring.
Also, another thing to note - and one that cost me a win in one tournament game - is that the entire unit must wholly be within the deployment zone to achieve Linebreaker so you can't have even 1 swarm outside (or partially outside) the deployment zone. Yeah, that 1 mistake cost me from 3rd to 9th at the BAO.

MarkyMark: Really? Wow, to be honest, I'm surprised he would make a mistake like that - he seemed to understand the rules pretty well. Thanks for letting me know though, I'll be sure to remember it. I should add that it didn't really affect the game, he still kind of destroyed me haha.
jy2: Thanks for reading, and thanks for the pointers! I need to get a smaller rulebook, so I can actually read the damn thing. The huge one is "fancy" but I get so frustrated trying to flip through that thing...

Of course jy2, forgot they are fast attack!, was it the scourging Xaerth?
They are mentioned in the scoring units page 123 that anything with swarm is not scoring or denial

Adam, good to see you playing again (Luke here, we played in the NOVA invitational 2 years back, hot DE on DE action, you won lol). Slightly disappointed you didn't bring DE, but I completely understand why. Greycrons/Chaoscrons/Cronscrons seemed to be the order of the day at adepticon (like GK was last year). I missed the championships due to a scheduling conflict, but my DE would've had trouble against a lot of those flyer heavy lists. Great job making the top 16 cut, esp. given your lack of experience with 6th.

Ummm... I think you got @#$%ed on that one. You only need a single model from a scoring/denial unit in your opponent's DZ to claim Line Breaker (the tourney may have ruled differently but the rulebook is pretty clear). Though one thing most people don't know is that units which G2G can't claim line breaker (unlike with normal objectives).

I thought I had the game won. Then my opponent told me that I didn't have linebreaker. He even showed me in the book that I had to be completely in the deployment zone (don't remember where in the BRB and can't find it now)!
For the record, I don't think my opponent cheated, but just made a mistake. He probably really believed that was how Linebreaker worked, but for the life of me, I can't find the passage in the book that he showed me.
Oh well, you win some, you lose some. At least I won Best Tyranids.

I think the model has to be completey in the deployment, so in the case of a flyrant the whole base has to be in DZ for units only one model has to be in the DZ for linebreaker, had a quick read of that bat rep and think that might be the case

Yeah linebreaker is claimed by models not units, so the whole model has to be in the area, not the unit. But obviously for single model units, this means getting the whole unit in the zone.

hey this is Werner from round 1 of day 2.
Thanks for the kind words, our game was a blast! You were an absolute pleasure to play against, and I agree it felt exactly the way competitive 40k should be played.
As an aside since it seems to be getting attention, I had warriors in Adam's deployment zone for linebreaker. The scarabs were more interested in hiding behind a cliff edge to block los in case we had another turn.

You have to have at least one model from a scoring or denial unit completely in the zone. And that model has to be completely in. This got brought up in your thread back in March, actually.

Haha, I'm glad for the off-topic discussion, these sorts of small rules details are honestly what makes us better players, and I'm glad to know them better. In 5th, though I wasn't what you'd likely call a "rules lawyer", I knew them well enough that I went my final year of play at GTs without losing a rules debate. Obviously haven't gotten to that point yet in 6th :-p
Werner: Man, I'm glad you came in and said something! Thanks for the great game, and sorry for misrepresenting what your intentions were with the scarabs - I didn't know the rules well enough, and you were a good enough player that I just assumed that you were doing something smart like getting linebreaker with them. As it was, my Strike marines would have probably killed those scarabs anyways, and then you'd be out a killpoint if things got that bad for you.
Jason: Ha, I'm glad you showed up too, really glad we got to play! Seriously, next year we should just tell the judges that if we both have the same record after 3 rounds, they should just pair us for the 4th. You going to any other events this year?

Seems like your Day 2 opponents were definitely more prepared than your Day 1!
Great reports.
Although I still think denying your opponent linebreaker on the basis that your entire model isn't in is a dick move. Just give it to him, fergedsake. Especially since you had the movement to do it.

Wow - those are embarrassingly bad models for a GT. (The vendettas, not your dreadknights) I'd have called a judge over, informed my opponent that his models didn't meet the requirements for the event, and asked for them to be removed from play, per the rules of the event.

In our last game of the TT the opposing team had models that had been thrown out due to not meeting the painting requirements. Despite that we were perfectly fine with them using the models. At the end of the day I think we all want to win but I think we all also went to the event/paid the entry free to have good, fun, and challenging games. Where would the fun have been if the OP had called over a judge and had the models removed? Besides unless you really have to win at all costs do you really want to be that guy or remembered for having your opponents models thrown out just to gain the upper hand?

We all play these games for different reasons. I pay my entry fee with the expectation that I'm going to get a number of games against fully painted WYSIWYG opponents. That's important to me. If I just wanted to play a game, I could do so at the local game store with the kids and their half assembled grey plastic.
It's not about trying to get his models removed so that I get an easy win, it's about trying to get the event to enforce the rules so I can get the sort of games I paid for.

I think taking unpainted, unassembled models to a GT is pretty low. I wouldn't ever do something like that personally, but i'm also not a fan of "snitchin." I'd probably give that person a little crap though.

Yeah, I guess I see what you guys are saying about the painting. I'm not really that picky about what I play against - it's kind of funny to say, but I didn't even really notice his Vendettas weren't all the way assembled/painted until I wrote the reports - playing competitive games is what personally drives me to go to tournaments.
While it makes a lot of sense what you're all saying about his army, I guess I personally couldn't care less what shape his models were in as long as he didn't do anything obviously bad like using plasma guns for melta (which he didn't). Kind of surprising to hear myself say that really - I won Best Painted at a GT a couple years back so I obviously care about my own army looking good. Heh, just goes to show that everyone gets into these hobbies for a different reason
Luke: Hey sorry I didn't say something on the first go-around! Glad to see you still kicking the 40k ball around. I'll be trying to get to the Nova again this year, if I can get into the invitational anyways. You gonna be there?
Jason: Yeah, I'll be going to the Bugeater at the end of this month, and then hopefully the Nova in August/September (whenever it is, lol). Feast of Blades is an hour from where I live as well, so I'll probably try my luck there as well. And then it wraps around to Adepticon, haha.

No idea, haha! I would love it if the new Marine dex was out and good, I'd take my Salamanders for sure!
If not, or if I don't have time for that, I'm guessing something involving Grey Knights, Tau, Necrons, and Guard. Maybe Marines anyways - thunderfire cannons and Stormfires are too fun
You?
