We'll have much more information about "Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." soon, but don't miss your exclusive first look at "Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," airing during the season finale of "Once Upon A Time" this Sunday, May 12 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on ABC. And check out the cast's first promo photo below!

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. cast promo photo; L-R: Chloe Bennet, Elizabeth Henstridge, Iain de Caestecker, Clark Gregg, Ming-Na Wen, Brett Dalton
Clark Gregg reprises his role of Agent Phil Coulson from Marvel’s feature films as he assembles a small, highly select group of Agents from the worldwide law-enforcement organization known as S.H.I.E.L.D. Together they investigate the new, the strange, and the unknown across the globe, protecting the ordinary from the extraordinary. Coulson's team consists of Agent Grant Ward (Brett Dalton), highly trained in combat and espionage, Agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen) expert pilot and martial artist, Agent Leo Fitz (Iain De Caestecker); brilliant engineer and Agent Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) genius bio-chemist. Joining them on their journey into mystery is new recruit and computer hacker Skye (Chloe Bennet).

From Executive Producers Joss Whedon ("Marvel's The Avengers," "Buffy the Vampire Slayer"); Jed Whedon & Maurissa Tancharoen, "Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." pilot co-writers ("Dollhouse," "Dr.Horrible's Sing-Along Blog"); Jeffrey Bell ("Angel," "Alias"); and Jeph Loeb ("Smallville," "Lost," "Heroes") comes Marvel's first TV series. "Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." is produced by ABC Studios and Marvel Television.

So this will have to take place before The Avengers... Or they're gonna be dicks and make the same mistake comics have been making for years? (Making death meaningless).

So sort of a more Marvel Warehouse 13 perhaps? Not that that's a bad thing.

Apparently it takes place after the Avengers... will be interesting to see if they can pull it off

Essentially. No this isn't a spoiler since it was part of a press release, but just in case:

Spoiler:
Fury lied about Coulson dieing to rally the group. Yes, it undermines any gravitas the moment had, and makes death as meaningless in the movies as much as it is comic books themselves. It was a powerful moment in the film, now completely destroyed. Not a big fan of the decision. I imagine it is also going to be awkward when the others (Thor, Iron Man, Cap, ect) find out that he isn't dead. The only way it will not really annoy me (more) is if it is woven into the films and is used as a reason in Avengers 2 for them to tell Fury to stuff it and go solo.

Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.

I dunno, it doesn't seem like that bad a concept. It's just exactly what Film Nick Fury would do...

Then put it in the frickin movie. Don't let us have the emotional experience and the best death scene since Boromir became a pincushion.

This is going to make my Mom very sad.

Honestly?

I would have been far, far more surprised if Coulson was actually dead. The way that Fury worded his response left the idea of "Coulson isn't really dead; just badly injured and Fury pronounced him dead instead of injured." in my head even when I first saw The Avengers in theaters.

It seemed a very Fury thing to do; he's not above manipulating people for what he judges to be the "right reasons".

I had the same thought as well, I had just hoped that since this isn't a comic and actors age, and he isn't a marquee player, that perhaps they would have the guts to follow through for once and give the moment some meaning and weight. After all, this is the same writer/director that killed Wash.

Isn't this before the Avengers though, so shouldn't he be alive? I don't see the problem.

No it's not. As far as everyone was concerned at that time, including Coulson, he was dying. The fact that he didn't (and that we didn't find out 'til later) hardly diminishes that.

Well, he doesn't lie to everyone, and just because something is done one way doesn't mean it always has to be that way. If it were I imagine we would have to have another actor playing Fury, to begin with. Taken in a vacuum it might not be that big a deal, but as part of the larger 'death is meaningless' problem in cape comics, it just undermines the cinematic ambitions of the Marvel Film Universe.

Spoiler:
And of course the one other meaningful death in the series, Bucky Barnes, will also not be dead either in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Ignoring that Steve Rogers is also another heroic death that turned out not to be dead and is alive.

Aye, but to be fair Bucky's not dead in the comics either, and I like the Winter Soldier idea, hoping he has the arm.

The fact Coulson 'died' off screen in a comic book movie, really to me doesn't even cause a bat of an eyelid that he's back. To be honest, I didn't believe he was dead in the first place.

Am I like, the only person here who knew he wasn't dead from the death scene?

The fact that they 'called it' off screen, all you saw was a bunch of medics running to Coulson after he stopped breathing (resuscitation is not a new concept) and Fury lied about the cards in Coulsons pocket all led to a very shady death scene. Both me and my fiancee left the movie saying 'he's totally not dead', and she's not even a comic fan, so she doesn't get the whole 'dying in comics doesn't mean you're dead' thing.

Yeah, they were laying on the foreshadowing pretty thick. That other agent all but came out and said 'Fury is lying'. This also isn't just an issue with comic book movies- Whedon practices very, very thick plot armor for his characters. Buffy had a song about dying.... twice. Spike not only survived his one redeeming moment, but also managed to jump series in the process. I can't even count the number of times the crew of Serenity brushed death only to survive through astronomical flukes. Then there's Angel. the vampire who loses his soul a little more often than most of us lose our car keys, but always retrieves it.

He is absolutely a believer that mitigating the consequences will not devalue the action if the intent is pure.

You are probably not the only person on your block that considered that, let alone out of all the people who went and saw the movie.

After the film my friends and I talked about it and assumed as much as well, but that doesn't mean I wasn't hoping that they would have the guts to actually see it through as opposed to the standard comic book cop out.

I just hope it isn't as dark, as I couldn't get into Torchwood as I was expecting it to have a campy atmosphere like Doctor Who.

Arrow is pretty much my favourite TV show on at the moment. It's good to see these shows come out now.

"Birds of Prey" didn't properly make it over to the UK, I think?

Holy crap I feel stupid! I've been watching Arrow every week and never recognized Malcolm as Harkness until you mentioned it!
