I've had this discussion with friends previously. If you could build a 40k army, and money was no object whatsoever, what would it be? Try not to think just in terms of size. GW is handing you a blank check here. +2 for coming up with conversion ideas.

I've always wanted to do a full traitor guard force led by small clusters of Alpha Legion. I would want to model them like a terrorist/insurgency force rather than professional soldiers, with each model looking as though he had looted his equipment from a Guard armory. Tanks and air cavalry would look much the same, and I'd want to have some sort of technical truck conversion standing in for chimeras. Alpha legionnaires would be stand-in squad leaders sprinkled through, with a couple of dedicated Alpha Legion squads. The mortal component might be led by some sort of cult magister type, reminiscent of Kane from Command and Conquer.

I have always wanted to build a BA DreadPod list.
But it's way to expensive in my opinion, you'd need 45 Euro per 100 points.

The idea is very simple:
Take as many droppods and dreadnaughts as possible > thrown them in his base in the first turn > Use your flamers and fragcannons to annihilate his troops and the meltaguns to kill his vehicles.
Next turn assault with your Blood Talons <3

That's a lot of points right there. 2700 points just in your bikers before Nobs.

Well there is only one army I would build then, and that would be a Sister of battle army, the thought of some hundred and fifty to two hundred Sisters on foot backe up by a hundred or so mounted in rhinos. With full support from those nice tanks of theirs and a few pentincence machines makes me drool. Also I would use the Knights Hospitaler emblem and paint them after such a scheme.

Complete my DKoK army, with proper fortifications:

http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer-40000/Warhammer_40,000_Terrain/IMPERIAL-FORTRESS-WALLS.html as the main fortification.

http://www.ifelix.co.uk/images994/IMG_0020.jpg (the OOP trench system) surrounding the primary fortress.

The army would consist primarily of veteran/grenadier squads in Vendettas, with heavy artillery and a Sabre platoon to hold the fortifications, and Vultures and Avengers for air support. Oh yes, and an entire squadron of Marauder Destroyers for Apocalypse (in addition to the superheavy tank squadrons I already have).

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

A proper Iyanden army. Lots of Wraithguard, a Seer per unit, with a smattering of Wraithlords - but only minimal Aspect Warriors and *NO* Guardians. I'll actually be looking to do this if plastic Wraithguard turn up at any point.

Crux of the army would be former special character Iyanna Arienal - the Craftworld's leading Farseer, with her own Wraithlord companion. I'm planning a counts-as-normal-Wraithlord conversion that has her riding astride its shoulders.
