Which army in 40k can take the most punishment?

Which army out of Dark Angels and Chaos Space Marines can take more punishment?

This is two separate questions.

Imperial Guard. We laugh at your Lascannon spam. We laugh at it!

For CSM, you can't beat Plague Marines. Those bastards would just. not. go. down. For Dark Angels, Raven Wing. 2 Executioners will ruin a Deathwing's day with ease.

Taking the most punishment in what way?

take marines and orks

Marines have better saves and so it will lose less models to regular fire but against low ap weapons that doesn't work aswell. They also field less models so each loss is a harder hit.

The orks on the other hand will likely die by the dozens by annything, but those losses don;t have as much weight behind themm, there are plenty more left.

Going by what army will be surviving more shots on average
It really depends on what you are facing and how well the dice gods are with you.

Just looking on the average game...what army can take more of a beating and keep going..example...Dark Angels group together and get +T. Stuff like that...what army out of Dark Angels and Chaos marines can do that better.

The army that can take the most punishment, would most likely be some variation of horde army. I'm going to say guardsmen, but i'm no expert on horde armies, but guardsmen have good armour for their amount of bodies, can pack in a metric ton of those bodies, and can bring some substantially survivable armour for very cheap. They are not resillient on their own, but they are definately resillient through numbers, as long as you have a way to stop them fleeing (Marine allies giving them ATSKNF, is fantastic.)

Out of dark angels or chaos space marines? I'd say it goes

Plague marine-based armies
Deathwing
Other chaos space marine based armies.

Plague marines, and other nurgle marked chaos space marine stuff, is just resilient as hell.

On moon miranda.

This depends entirely on what you're throwing downrange. An infantry based IG army can take a hell of a lot more meltagun shots than Grey Knights Paladin unit can, but flamers will kill off the IG very well and do relatively little to the Paladins.

IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT.

New Heavy Gear Log! Also...Grey Knights!
The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.

IG SitNW conscripts I beg you to kill the entire unit so I don't have to waste a turn before sending more in.

Of those 2 armies clearly the Plaguemarines are one of the most survivable units in the game. DW knights are a bit more survivable but they are x2 more expensive.

Your original question is not supported by the poll.

That being said, the answer is the Black Templars. They outnumber pretty much everybody but the Orkz and Tyranids. Keepin the meatshield up front. Way more casualties, way more retaliation.

Take the maximum number of nurgle plaguebearers and plague marines, you wont die but you wont kill much either.

Tervigon Spam Tyranids. Seriously, I love playing that list, there are VERY few armies capable of killing enough models, and those basically rely on gimmicky quick-kills like JotWW. Against your standard IG/SM army though? No way you're killing that many guys, sorry.

Out of the game? Grey Knights.

Out of your chosen armies? I'm going with Dark Angels. Terminators as troops is a damn hard nut to crack.

Out of the poll choices CSM is the clear winner.
You can field armies that are FNP, Toughness 5, Fearless or some combination of the three.

Simply counts the number of points a HIT cost you. To have a quick idea, compare between the most common AP5/str4 and the somewhat common AP2/str7+ weapon.

In the case of a normal space marine with an ap5/str4 weapon:
(cost: 14pts) x (chances to wound: 0.5) x (chance fail a save: 0.33) = 2.31.
Each time an enemy hits a SM with a bolter, killed or not, it cost you an average of 2.31pts.

Cost of a hit on a AP2/str7+ weapons on a space marine:
14 x 0.83 x 1 = 11.66 pts

For for a Terminator:
AP5/str4 weapon:
40 x 0.5 x 0.17 = 3.4 pts

AP2/str7+ weapon:
40 x 0.83 x 0.66 = 21.91 pts

So, for the same number of points, a squad of space marine are more resilient than a squad of terminator, even against 'small' AP5 fire.

---------

Sorry if my calculations didn't really target the armies you asked for, but I only worked with units that I knew the point cost.

The most resilient against firearms would the CSM, because of the cultist. In assault, it may be another story... but again, chaos have some good units that may cover that weakness.
Even without the mark of Nurgle nor possible FNP, it doesn't change my choice; Chaos! lol .
