I know the new IG codex most likely won't be out for a while, but what to you hope is in it/would like to see in it?

I, personally, would like to see the return of the Crew Escape Mechanism. Unsure if it was in any of the old guard dex's but it was featured in Aus WD No. 241 (released in January, unsure what year). Basically a destroyed vehicle with the upgrade allowed you to deploy a unit of D3 guardsman with either a lasgun or laspistol and the opponent didn't earn VP until they killed them!

So, fire away!

I'm not a guard player but I have to admit tanks are cool, I'd like to see them get a tank larger than a landraider, but obviously not as large as a Baneblade.

I need to return some video tapes.

I'd like to see them be able to field Storm Troopers as troops through an HQ Choice. Current IG codex is great though, won't need an update for a long while.

Yes I know IG suck in combat... But I want my Kanak Skulltakers to be something more than a 'counts as' cultists unit with MoK.

Only waac players say the guard coded is great. It's not, but it is powerful. Foot guard simply doesn't work at all, to ignore that shows a complete disregard for the fluff.

Rough riders actually good. A way to make them troops, storm troopers to be worth their points, and use gun carriages as an option to save on points.

All I can think of really.

Last. Chancers.

Barring that, Malcador/Macharius or even Bane blade as codex units.

You can leave the silly ness of the Death strike, Ratings, and Ogryns out to make room.

If GW has to give the Guard a giant MC then I want them to give us a power loader with a huge flamethrower. Something awesome.

Besides that, cost Vendettas a bit more, either cheapen footguard or give them something like the Death Korps special rule, at least make half the codex viable and perhaps one or two more tank ace upgrades. Maybe one that unlocks Leman Russes as troops.

It's fairly safe to say we will likely see the giant guard walker ruining days Most likely a ratling in a pre-loved dreadknight.

What I would -love- to see, is something along the lines, of the irradiator in the Red alert 2 command and conquer series. A model in a biohazard suit, who tries to get into the middle of the field, and can irradiate an area of the battlefield, causing any models in the affected area to take toughness tests.

http://cnc.wikia.com/wiki/Desolator_(Red_Alert_2)

Seems like a guardsman tactic, risk hundred's of lives in the hope of repelling enemies through nuclear fallout.

I would be suprised if the baneblade wasn't in the new dex. They already have it made. With how big the Wraithknight is there really isn't anything holding them back from putting the massive tank in normal games with adjusted rules.

I hope they improve foot guard though.

Edit* Power loaders with flamerthrowers are called Penitent Engines BTW

The only thing I absolutely want out of the IG Codex is for them to properly cost the Vendetta or change its rules to be more in line with other 6th Edition Codex aircraft.

As a guard player I think its funny that an old codex is still such a viable one that most posts have to do with in part making the vendetta more expensive. I agree its all killer no filler on the cheap. I for one would really like to see… NOTHING. I love my guard codex and win with it more then I lose. Sure I would like to see an order that allowed for spit fire or an order that made BS better during overwatch but that’s about it. I do think having a commissar in the ranks should actually make a guard block shot at normal BS when being charged, it just makes sense. Cheaper infantry is nice but honestly a 30man guard block is a butcher to most CC units and they are normally backed up by LRBTs to soften the units before the assault. Storm troopers suck but I never use them and if they did become good I don’t know how my DKoK army would have minis to use them.

Let's see...

Up Vendettas to ~150.

HQ that unlocks Leman Russ squadrons as scoring Troops, so you can field an armored company.
HQ that unlocks Storm Troopers as Troops.

Merge the Storm Troopers and Veterans entries to enable properly kitted specialist squads.

Allow HWTs to combine with platoons.

HQ that allows you to take 2x Fortifications (something like a defensive genius. The ADL is soooo Imperial Guard. I currently don't use one, but it fits the fluff...)

Option to field Armored Companies in the regular codex (will never happen)

Options to field command and regular Salamanders (will never happen)

Ways to give your army some more flavor, like Elysian/DKoK level of uniqueness (small special rules, "unique" vehicles, etc) Will never happen.

Foot guard improved in some way (not just "make em cheaper) might happen.

Sentinels to become useful in any way whatsoever (I can dream)

More options for Commissars/make the regular ones more survivable in some way so blobs can come back stronger. (Might happen)

Some sort of assault vehicle that lets us get a blob or a larger ogryn squad up the table into assaulting range, the IG equivalent of a battlewagon or a landraider. Something like the CRASSUS ARMORED ASSAULT TRANSPORT (I would weep tears of joy)

Vendettas tweaked in some way to balance them out a bit (better happen)

more fluff that isn't garbage (right after I see pigs fly)

Penal Legion that get actual options instead of a joke (seriously, only 10 guys? REALLY?)

I can do this all day. That said, we're pretty lucky, our codex isn't NEARLY as bad as some, and we have a good amount of options that aren't completely terrible. Sure, not all of our choices are great, but many can at least pull their weight in a friendly game.

On moon miranda.

1: Useful Stormtroopers and ideally an option to take them a troops. IA12 went a long way towards this, that list is awesome in that regard. That said, I'd be thrilled if we could drop the "AP3 18" Rapid Fire" aspect for something more appropriate and useful to a squad of assault troops, like 18/24" Assault 3 and forget about the AP3. If ST's were WS4 BS4, had some Ld reinforcement (either like the DKoK Special rules where they ignore 25% morale tests or had much higher Ld better than 7 on a basic Stormtrooper) and the aforementioned Assault 3 gun, and were like 12pts, they'd be awesome and finally fit the archetypal "stormtrooper" role.

2: adjust vehicle costs/roles for 6E. 6E murders light and medium tanks at a prodigious rate, units like Hellhounds and Sentinels and the like need drastic cost reductions to be worth taking again. Nobody is going to take a 130pt AV12 ground tank for a tossable flamer template in 6E. Maybe 70-80pts, but certainly not 100+.

3: Some level of doctrines or the like to enable more regimental customization

Are you kidding? We are far from WAAC around here and foot IG are still extremely powerful. A friend who plays it took out 3 Dreadknights in one turn. Massive blob squads are crushing, especially with how great Overwatch is now.

I have wanted for ages to be that cruel, fiendish, ruthlessly efficient fether of a general who orders his men into close combat and then razes them along with the enemy. I would love to see an order (possibly available only to commissars) for friendly fire; ordered unit immediately shoots at a unit in close combat, all missed shots are automatically resolved as hits against your friendly unit in cc.

Take a few platoons with some conscript squads and forget about upgrades, then stick some gun line units behind. Order the conscripts into the breach and tangle the enemy in close combat. Then just as they begin to loose the battle, said big guns open up and shred the cc units. Anything left has to deal with over watch!

That would be brilliant. Those combos you could pull off... Kill your squad and suddenly your enemy is sitting ducks

Reminds me of the last time you could do this when a Guard player piled something like sixty guardsmen into my Karandras and the Storm Guardian squad he was leading... one artillery barrage later and Karry is the last man standing.

If they brought back lumbering behemoth and re-costed the vendettas I would be content. If they fixed the internal balance and made all of our troops choices viable I would be thrilled. If they fixed elites and fast attack to where all the choices were as good as each other (4 editions in the making) I could die happy.

What we'll get is "Codex: Orders" where guardsmen are WS1 BS2 until you have them an order that turns all their stats to 10, we get an ugly over priced and under performing flier and a phoned in monstrous creature.

I want IG Ratlings to be a troops choice. They are totally lost in the FOC slot they are in. if you wanna' see the whole codex expressed and ALL the units in it given a try and purchased, you gotta slot em right.
