Now unless I've been living under a rock, I've never heard of this game; but there it is using a Space Marine - bold as brass...

Is sort of thing more common than I thought?

Yeah space marines are a lot more common. They pre date gw at least in literature by several years.
Look up the 'spots the space marine' debacle for more info.

From looking at a quote of the original post, there's IMG code for a Google Syndicate advert - I'm guessing ABP is stopping it showing up for me. If the OP were to rehost and repost, it might make more sense.

Okay didnt notice the image either (running abp to).
It's an ad for 'imperium galactic war' having a picture of a rendered space marine (an actual gw space marine, not a generic one) sporting a line saying 'game of the year 2013' and the name of the game in the bottom.
So yeah, pretty much a ripoff to make cheap advertizing i would guess.

Ah you are correct. I do not think that's an official image, as I've not seen it anywhere on the Imperium Galactic War game. However I may be wrong since they do rip some concepts out of 40k pretty obviously for their other games at Kabam(a devastator marine that's a blatant low quality rip off, for example). That image though would be pretty blatantly infringing, as that particular space marine image is obviously from 40k, and not one of the generic "space marine" concepts that pop up everywhere.

I can see it fine. it's an advert for "Imperium Galatic War", with what looks almost identical to a Space Marine in Mk.VII power armour, with a red trim and a tactical squad designation on the right paldron, and carrying a Godwin pattern bolter.

Mmm seems to have had some issues with people viewing it directly from source. Saved to computer and uploaded to DakkaDakka gallery - that should make things clearer!

I've noticed that cheap browser games do this kind of thing all the time. They steal a recognizable image and hope that they never actually get enough attention to worry about some retribution coming down on them.

Perhaps GW might invest some of their money in pursuing a copyright claim against this browser game company.

I saw this on Ebay, It has nothing whatsoever to do with GW (I found this out after clicking on the link and being to taken to a browser based space station game)

Yeah, I'm all for taking the piss a little (Chapterhouse) but this is ridiculously blatant and should not be permitted.

Its as blatant as the time Anjem Chiudary was on TV and said "I don't claim jobseekers allowance, I claim Jihad seekers allowance"

Lets hope that GW have more luck than the British authorities do with Anjem.

Well we can only see him from the waist up so as far as we know he's wearing a tutu and moon boots as well

But it happens, somewhere I have pictures of a Chinese WWII game that uses Baneblade art, and a version of Back to the Future with artwork of X-Wings fighting colonial Vipers.

Just looked up the game itself, it doesn't look like it has any GW IP theft in the game itself, it's just the ad. No big deal really.

Friend of mine got a pirate game about tank warfare that had Neo from the Matrix on the CD art despite nothing in the game even resembling the Matrix. We called the game 'Neo' from that moment forward.

That's pretty clearly from DoW and I get it a lot on Facebook for browser games. Images of Star Trek, Star Wars, 40k, etc. based I Beleive on my browsing history and recognizable IPs tha the game doesn't actually look anything like.

Probably exactly what happened when someone brought to attention someone using artwork of a Man-o-War in the same way for a browser game ad on the PP forums: not a whole lot.

This is actually very common of those browser games. If someone say something, they just shrug and put out a new ad with a different person's IP, ad infinitum.
