Finally I decided start posting on here. Btoliver and I got more work done this weekend. My focus was on the bridge. I was able to get a couple of the support structures done for the bridge. There is still quite a bit to go but I am liking the results so far.

Yeah, kirque’s bridge is still looking good. It looks like I didn’t make as much progress with my building but squaring everything up and securing it to the table took most of my time

With all this talk about playability I think smaller mobile units are going to work much better on the table. Hence my sentinels. Would also be really cool if renegade guard could get access to these new cult bikes for our seiging army. They could get around most of our map

We got some work in yesterday. Kerque got the third tower and pylon put together for the bridge as well as cut and re-situated the road. Now the birdge will be secured to the middle table so that it can be disconnected when we are moving the entire diorama. He also started on widening the platform for walkways

I worked on the catacombs a bunch (no picture yet) and then moved on to redoing the second level on the new building. Kerque convinced me it would be better to use all of the new imperial sector wall sections VS mixing in the old ones. That and I needed them for the catacombs. You’ll also see we decided on a smaller third level in the form of just an octagon tower. The idea is some sort of roof top garden. You might also notice the first draft of a man-bridge going from it to the bastion

Here’s a picture of the catacombs after I finally finished getting all the wall sections in. It’s not perfect but that’s what you get from a bunch of sloppy plaster surface recasts. I even ran out of those and had to start using basilica administratum window sections too. I cut out the the windows and filled some in with bricks. The others I plan to cut into the foam behind and set small coffins or bar up

So I know it doesn't look like we got that far this weekend when you look at the previous bridge images. The fact is that a lot of work went into trueing up the bridge and cutting it into portions so that the middle board could be separated with the bridge main section. Not only that the cobblestone was drawn on and the railing was attached as well as the Piller struts were built. I wish we would have enough time to include the large statues but again that will have to wait for next weekend.

While I worked on the bridge btoliver work on the building by the military bastion. Btoliver will probably go into more detail about that.

here are some more of kerque’s bridge

I also worked on the new building. We are calling it the “govenors” building. The new little bridge is in, as well as the base and top for the roof top tower. Next will be finishing up the entrance ramp and probably adding stairs

I feel like things are finally moving at a good pace. I also started using painters caulk for a lot of the cracks and as an adhesive. It’s working well but I’m concerned about the detail we may loose later as it won’t carve well. Does anyone have experience using painters caulk with foam buildings?

Holy Terra.

I love that newest building! It perfectly balances a lot of different 40k themes: modernism, functionality, graeco-roman architecture... One thing I really want you to do is add some sort of void shield generator on the rooftop balcony. You wouldn't want your lovely garden party to be spoiled by incoming missiles.

Re painter's caulk: you should be able to sand it down quite easily. I've used it to block gaps in terrain pieces before, but it really depends on how coarse it is.

Kirque and I got a little work done on the board today but I didn’t get around to taking any pictures though. However I did snap this pic of our new inquisition symbols to go on the sides of that building. I found the 3D specs online and had them printed through materialize. They’re about 3’ tall

Started working on the monorail again finally.

Made in us

decided to dig out all the guardsmen I had been working on before as well.

Looks like I have about
- 4 infantry squads done (3 normal, one marching)
- The casts for another infantry squad (at attention)
- more than enough parts for at least 1 more infantrysquad plus
- 1 full rough rider squad (still need to figure out cloaks)
- 1 Ratlings sniper squad
- 3 scout sentinels
- 1 heavy weapons squad with mortars
- 2 Leman Russ tanks that need some love
- another leman that is just the cast parts

So where that leaves me for a brigade is a lot of Elites and HQ slots to fill.

And Here are some of the bits I have for some HQ and/or a command squad

Glad to be back at it. Hope to make some progress this week

Always an inspiring thread to read

Can't wait to see how that monorail turns out! The PDF troopers look good too, I'm sure they will look the part parading through the grand archways of your cityscape.

As for "playability" - pish posh! If you're going to invest that kind of effort in such a thing of beauty, the game needs to change to what you want to play, not the other way around. Who cares if current 40k with its giant bases, blobs, screens and masses of stuff has trouble with it! You could write your own game in 1/100 of the time you're putting into that work of art.

Do you have an image of what you are thinking of for Graf Toschenko?

Well I had the idea of using the Lord Commander Solar Macharius model I have

Pic of the from the Internet:

And think it kind of fits with the description from lexicanim.com minus the augmetic part but I’ve never seen an image

“The Armour of Graf Toschenko is suit of ornate augmetic armour, that was once worn by Lord Marshal Toschenko until he was killed by the forces of the T'au Empire during the Nimbosa Crusade. He has now become famous throughout the Vostroyan Firstborn, for his indomitability against the Tau and Toschenko's armour has since been passed to a dozen Commanders who have been considered the Lord Marshal's spiritual descendants.[1]”

Macharius is a good starting point! You could maybe use Skitarii parts if you want to up-tech the Macharius model?

Another option would be to add an exoskeleton to the limbs, to make them look mechanically augmented, and maybe swap the head for something a bit more techie.

Since its the Vostroyan armor

gotta get that vostroyan fuzzy hat on there.

Also their main aesthetics is that great coat and hat. without the coat it seems strange imho.

i feel like this Bad ass might be a cool place to start

Remove the arms and head, replace with scion arms and maybe the scion helmet + greenstuff hat.

Great ideas!

Here’s an example for the exo skeleton. I’ll probably need some different bits for it but I like it

I like the rouge trader dudes for my pdf too but need to figure out what role they would play and where to buy them. Maybe they could be royal guard and play as themselves?

FYI, my vostroyan don’t where fuzzy hats. That’s just the regiment I play them as.

Awesome work on the command squad! Does the vox guy have a Solar Auxillia helmet? In any case, where did you find it?

And may I suggest using this model as a base for your general?

Lighting is crap but not the worst tanks for recast of recast built on top of foam board. Obviously need some accessories to hide the imperfections but that will come after some paint.

Yes the helmet is solar Auxillia. I’m tying to mix that in a bunch with the pistoleros but need some new ones

I think my hq is conceptually rounded out
- commander with squad (pics above)
- commander wearing the armor of graf toschenko (ordering bits)
- floating primaris psyker (ordering bits)

Oh, the other option for a floating psyker model is to convert something from the Rogue Psyker models in the new Blackstone Fortress boxed game:

Really depends on how much your planet trusts pyskers- if you want them to be in chains, this is a good option to go for. If you want them to look more dignified, then not so much.

We have a winner. After way too Much time in quite a few bit stores I found some dude called the “high elf mage of spire of Dawn island”

Well I think we do. Time will tell

I also got 9 of the 10 guys put together for my “at attention” squad. Just need an idea for the Sergeant. For those of you considering casting you own minis, don’t. These guys were a pain. Tons of huge mold lines and air bubbles. Just getting them to this point took hours. In addition to the casting time

But they look awesome!

As for the sergeant, you could model him with a cane yelling at the other soldiers? Or something like that.
